David Calcano is an author, director, and co-founder of Fantoons Animation Studios based in Los Angeles. He collaborates with world-renowned artists to develop animation, books, documentaries, and original stories.
He was born in Caracas, Venezuela and has been watching Disney, Warner, and UPA cartoons ever since he was inside his mom’s belly. As an adult, he moved to the UK where he worked as a systems engineer—at least until he went nuts and dropped his career to pursue his dream.
David has written authorized graphic novels and books about musicians including Rush, Tenacious D (Jack Black and Kyle Gass), The Beach Boys, Henry Mancini, Simón Díaz, Iron Maiden, Motörhead, Alice Cooper, Marillion, Frank Zappa, and Johnny Ramone, among many others.
He has directed animated music videos for timeless songs such as Ella Fitzgerald’s “Frosty the Snowman,” Nat King Cole’s “The Christmas Song,” Frank Sinatra’s “Have Yourself a Meery Little Christmas,” Bing Crosby’s “White Christmas,” and Chuck Berry’s “Run Rudolph Run,” among many more.
Fantoons' animated shorts have won multiple awards at film festivals around the world. The studio also collaborates with the Disney Channel, for whom they created a series to promote healthy habits through original quirky characters and mini-musicals that incorporate various genres, from blues to hip-hop and even punk rock.
Currently, David is focused on crafting beautiful stories that connect with hearts and souls, using the magic of both animation and music—made possible by the creative spirit of the artists at Fantoons Animation Studios.
This is a fun little book for little kids who are learning to count which features Johnny Ramone counting things he liked, such as comic books, monsters, and baseball. Drop the needle on a Ramones album and read this with your kids!
There *really* should be a Learning to Count 1-2-3-4 with Dee Dee Ramone. It was his super fast 1-2-3-4 which started off every Ramones song (and after Dee Dee left, CJ), but I'm a big supporter of the Ramones legacy, so anything that keeps their memories alive is okay by me.
