What can I say? I'm a plantaholic so I guess I am far enough down the rabbit hole & have got a lot of enjoyment from this book. There are sections on why plants flower in winter, soil, hardiness, planting & caring. The lengthy chapter 'Designing for Winter' covers winter sunlight, stem & bark effects, evergreen companion plants, plants with presence & attitude, & plants with fruit. The latter 60% of the book is an A-Z of winter-flowering shrubs, with descriptions, cultivation & comments on how well they are likely to perform. Most of the information appears to be well-researched & accurate. However I disagree with some of the author's statements on Australian shrubs correa (flowering) & grevillea (hardiness).

I don’t think I’m far enough down the gardening rabbit hole to appreciate this book. The artistry and long winded explanations of winter gardening are not for me!
