Robert Lawrence Stine known as R. L. Stine and Jovial Bob Stine, is an American novelist and writer, well known for targeting younger audiences. Stine, who is often called the Stephen King of children's literature, is the author of dozens of popular horror fiction novellas, including the books in the Goosebumps, Rotten School, Mostly Ghostly, The Nightmare Room and Fear Street series.
R. L. Stine began his writing career when he was nine years old, and today he has achieved the position of the bestselling children's author in history. In the early 1990s, Stine was catapulted to fame when he wrote the unprecedented, bestselling Goosebumps® series, which sold more than 250 million copies and became a worldwide multimedia phenomenon. His other major series, Fear Street, has over 80 million copies sold.
Stine has received numerous awards of recognition, including several Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards and Disney Adventures Kids' Choice Awards, and he has been selected by kids as one of their favorite authors in the NEA's Read Across America program. He lives in New York, NY.
The Garbage Pail Kids novel reboot trilogy concludes with Camp Daze. Messy parentless children from unknown origins, such as Nasty Nancy, Adam Bomb and Luke Puke, descend upon Camp Lemme-Owttahere for a summer of fun and mayhem. Zany camp counsellors and out of control wildlife add extra flavor in a world that's already overwhelmingly bizarro.
The gross-out humor and groaner jokes are rapid fire as usual, but it's clear that enthusiasm for the premise is starting to wane. While never following a tradition plot, the prior two novels felt more cohesive and had a clearer story to tell. This one, set outside of Smellville, feels like a side quest in comparison. Nice that it adds texture to the wonderful world built in the first two novels, but doesn't hold up well on its own.
Overall, fans will not want to skip Camp Daze but those with casual interest certainly wouldn't want to start here. In either case, one can stop after book two without fear of missing out. The first two are really great, though, so you are missing out if you don't read those!
The final book in the Garbage Pail Kids Trilogy, at least until Mr. Stine decides to turn the trilogy into a series, had one error in it. The error is on the last two pages. The last sentence on page 198 is also the first sentence on page 199. It would have been perfect if the narrator had changed between those last two pages but they didn't. Other than that, I think Camp Daze is my favorite of the trilogy. The reader really gets to see the GPK really work together, even working with Nasty Nancy, who is without her other four companions in this one, to defeat the Perfect twins once again. I think this is a great, quick, light read for anyone really; and middle schoolers will definitely enjoy it especially if they're getting to spend at summer camp. I give this book 4 of 5 Paws
This book transported me to my times of youth, when i collected Garbage Pail Kid stickers. Stine does something great adding a story to the classic figures i used to collect. I started with the third volume since i got it signed, but i already got the two first ones and i'm looking forward to reading them. Bonus: each volume contains four collectible limited edition topps cards.
Been picking up this series for my sister to share with her kiddos. She was a big fan of RL Stine and we loved the garbage pail kids when we were kids ourselves. These are just fun, gross humor to share with the little ones.
Not for me, but I think I'll hold onto this and give it to my grandson when it fits his reading level. Good, goofy, and gross book that I'm sure lots of kids would enjoy! Now I'm heading back to Fear Street myself...
I read this for nostalgia, I grew up reading Stine's books, and I still collect them as an adult . I found this one funny . I also have two kids, and my youngest loves the illustrations.
When I was a child, R.L. Stine was my favorite author. I definitely had to get this book, especially because it was autographed. As always, R.L. continues to be a master in storytelling. Excellent.
