Postcards from the Cosmic Club of Everlasting Souls: Visiting Hours on Both Sides of the Veil

A magical true story that will challenge your beliefs.

At 21, Marina Day received disarming news. A daunting diagnosis left her feeling thunderstruck, and questioning her future as she battled for her life.

As luck would have it, though, her uncle Michael could relate. Having conquered a life-threatening challenge of his own, he was uniquely fit to offer guidance and support. A psychic bodybuilder with a quick, unbridled wit, he didn't look-or act-the part that he agreed to play. And yet, to be a sounding board and ally for his niece, he made himself available for pep talks on demand and traveled to the hospital routinely during her stays. Moreover, when her fears and doubts began to escalate, he dutifully responded to her questions and concerns. Like "Why do people cling to indefensible beliefs? Why do bad things happen, and what purpose does it serve? How can people worship God and do ungodly things? What happens when we die, and can we influence our fate? And if there is a destination for departed souls, can they communicate with us in an explicit way?"

Disheartened after suffering several setbacks and defeats, Marina also entertained the prospect of her death. And then, she vowed to wire her uncle from the Other Side. "If there's an afterlife," she said, "I'm going to give you proof. I'll send a sign-a clear one-that's specifically for you. One that you'll discover in an unexpected way, and won't be able to explain, dismiss, or overlook.

In view of this, the story takes a fascinating turn, resulting in an outcome with an otherworldly gift.

This story will invite you to rethink how you view death, as well as how to best support a loved one in decline. It also lightens heavy hearts and opens rigid minds, revealing that, without a doubt, we're more than we may seem.

Easy read but touching on many levels. Great reminders that what we see and think is real is only part of what’s possible. Also a healthy nudge to put more focus on FUN and JOY and LOVE each and every day. Glad I took time for this book.

This made me cry. A dear friend leant me this book years ago… probably over five, closer to ten, if I had to guess. It’s one of those stories that feels like it was waiting for you to find it until the right moment. I took it with me on my recent trip to Arizona and it feels very in sync with the magic and hope that journey collected. I’m feeling grateful for my friends, for this life, and maybe even a little more hopeful.

Such a hopeful book—Marina and her uncle, Michael, share so much during their time together, of course it would continue after Marina dies after a 2 year bout with leukemia. This book chronicles their discussions during those years and their continued communications after Marina’s death.

An easy read. This is the story of Michael Gerrish as he helps his niece, Marina Day, deal with the end of her life. Her diagnosis of cancer doesn't stop Marina from trying to stay alive. Lots of dry humor was used in this book as the author banters with his niece, giving her hope to hang on. When the possibilities of life no longer exist, he continues to use humor to help her pass on. Not a big fan of the humor shared by the two. Thus my low rating of the book. It is a very thought provoking book, leading one to reevaluate how you view death.....

3 3/4 Stars: A quirky memoir about the illness and death of the author’s young niece. What I liked: the questions and insights; the rapport between uncle and niece; the signs of connection post-death. What I didn’t like: the jokey banter was off-putting and took away from the depth of their conversations; the writing was just okay, and filled with typos.

A lovely reminder that if we pause and pay attention there are moments of important connection everywhere. Michael's book is a generous, comfortable read that is both beautiful and tragic, hopeful and real. Thank. you for sharing this experience with us.

What a beautiful meaningful story. I was doing ok until the end. The conversation at Miraval. The tears began to flow. This is a book you feel. In the beginning I did have to look up several of the words being used. A good teaching. Thank you Michael. Even more, thank you Marina. And I love the cover. My new Heaven: Cosmic Club of Everlasting Souls.

Easy to read, great conversations detailing a special relationship between uncle and niece during her battle with leukemia. Brings up lots to mull over about the meaning of life and afterlife.
