Donald Baechler: York House Suite

Rate this book
York House Suite (named after the hotel in Lisbon, Portugal, where the drawings were executed) marks the start of a working method for the American artist Donald Baechler. Baechler creates blue ink-wash drawings and collages around a central theme or themes; in this case, some of the drawings derive from a primitive Portuguese toy which allows children to construct a limited number of human forms from a set of wooden shapes. Others are inspired by paintings in the Portuguese National Museum. This beautifully produced volume also includes a selection of fictional writings by the Greek author Demosthenes Davvetas.
