hurricane Kate
SPOILER
I'm really disappointed with this book. Only half of the book is about Kate. The writer is a very negative person who is a cliche in the rescue world. A cynic who believes everyone else in the animal world, especially professionals, are inferior to her. Over and over again she shows bad decision making skills regarding care of her dogs and they end up at the vet an awful lot. Kate has several issues and after the author has had enough she has Kate put down. Before consulting her pet psychic, yes her pet psychic, or trying to find her a home by herself. The dog deserved at least that effort. Jenny needs to get it through her head that she's not some hero or expert bc she helps rescue dogs. She probably was Kate's only chance, I'll give her that, but she gave up on her just when she needed her. Kate could have lived out her last year's playing ball and taking couch naps.

Week 19 of the 2016 Reading Challenge: A non-fiction book. As another reviewer said, I was disappointed in this book. Kate is euthanized half way through the book and she had so many issues - many medical but also several because Jenny just didn't pay attention to basic dog behavior and put her in situations that turned out badly. It wasn't so much a book about the dog but about the author and her communications with other people - pages and pages of notes from people that donated money. There are so many stories from Katrina that could have been told - and told better.

Very heart breaking book. The motivation she has of rescuing so many dogs from Katrina is truly something enjoyable to read. Jenny has a kind heart and cares for these dogs. She gave everything for Kate to make sure her life was better before Katrina. Kate and Jenny are an inspiration for a lot of us. Sad and emotional read, but it gives you a perspective to adopt and rescue and even foster!!

I loved the story. Sometimes that was more detail that I needed but I appreciate that it meant a lot to the people involved.

December 6, 2015Was interested because I have a 3-legged rescue Cattle dog. Interesting & informative with lots of info regarding animal rescue and disaster assistance. I was disappointed in the ending - but I guess you can't re-write real life!
