Luke Savage is a DEA agent assigned to go undercover in a criminal organization that wants to expand its “business.” Bree Kelly is a local cop assigned to go undercover with him. She thinks he’s an arrogant sexist. He thinks she’s an irritating liability. Even worse, her current boyfriend is Luke’s old enemy from school.
Their cover? They have to pose as a loving couple—and they don’t even like one another.
The assignment could last for weeks or even months as they try to uncover their target’s plans and who the organization has on the inside of local government and police departments. The success of the assignment—and their lives—depend on them working together as partners. But can they trust one another even though they don’t like each other? Can they share an apartment for as long as necessary without killing one another?
And the biggest question of all—will the loving couple act stay an act?
I'm retired from the nine-to-five life and live with my husband and two cats on private land inside Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. (The handsome dog with me in the picture went to the Great Dog Park in the Sky March 1, and we miss him a lot!)
I have loved fiction since before I could read (Mom said I made up stories based on the pictures in books). Now that I no longer have the excuse of not enough time, I'm fulfilling my lifelong dream of writing novels.
Over the years, I've paid the bills by being a dancer, a bartender, a police officer, a registered nurse and a technical writer. Now I'm drawing on that life experience and my two English degrees to create stories I enjoy writing and hope readers will enjoy reading.
My Top Shelf cozy mystery series is set in a small fictitious town on the Ohio River halfway between Indiana and the West Virginia border. There are currently six books in the series: The Body on the Barstool, Whiskey Kills, Name Your Poison, Double Shot, Bottoms Up, and On the Rocks. The Top Shelf series features Ricki Fontaine, a New Yorker who moves to small-town Ohio after inheriting a dive bar from her black sheep uncle.
I have two books, The Ghost Wears A Badge and Dead Men Don't Retire, in my Spirit of the Law cozy series. Dead End, the third book in the series, should be out late 2025.
I've also published a contemporary romance, The Boy Next Door, and a standalone romantic suspense novel, The Wrong Kind of Man. I have two books, Death Notice and Undercover in my Kisses and Killers Thriller series. My novella, The Gift, is a holiday romance with a hint of the paranormal.
I also write grittier mysteries and thrillers under the name Laurel Heidtman.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author in one weekend! The first book was phenomenal so I jumped into her second book in the series.
I love her writing style because it just pulls you into the story and her characters are well developed and multi-dimensional.
This book was suspenseful as Bree and Luke go undercover as a couple. It’s hilarious how thoroughly Bree confuses and frustrates Luke the first couple of days they are together on assignment. He totally underestimated her abilities and she yanks his chain hard just to mess with him.
Their relationship develops due to forced proximity and a healthy physical attraction to each other. The proximity and partnership triggers an emotional bond as well.
I really enjoyed the storyline and would actually love to see these characters in another book while undercover together.
Really enjoyed the first two books of this series, have my fingers crossed that it's going to continue. And if the series continues, I really hope Bree and Luke make an appearance in the third book. These two are fabulous together and fabulous apart. Enjoyed this book so much, I felt a bit cheated when it ended. Definitely could have read another one hundred pages of this story. Lolli Powell is an author that is heavy on the details, but it's not a distraction. Quite frankly it adds to the suspense of the story. Love this author's writing and I think it's time to start reading her Top Shelf series.
This story has a lot of danger, suspense, action, and a little romance thrown in keeps you turning the pages until the very end looking forward to reading more books from this author
A great fun read. A little bit fun, a lot of two head strong, opinionated people. The female in this one was a lot of things and made his head throb along with his heart. Enjoyable.
4.25. I am definitely into this Kisses and Killer series. A cop and a DEA agent go undercover as a couple to bring down a cartel. Too bad, the two law enforcement agents don’t like each other, as they certainly have a physical attraction. The longer Luke and Bree play make believe couple, their chemistry grows, as does their respect for each other professionally. The closer and more involved Bree (Kelly) and Luke became with Al, his family, and colleagues, I began forgetting they were the villains. That was especially true, when a totally different and even more ruthless group of bad guys enter the picture. That twist certainly kept things interesting and added more action and suspense to the plot.
Undercover by Lolli Powel is a romantic suspense from the Kisses and Killers Thrillers Series.
Bree Kelly, local cop works undercover since she left UCLA where she worked as a campus officer. Thanks to her mother, who is a well known actress, she knows how to get into another role and when the DEA asks her assistance to go undercover with one of their agents, she says yes right away.
Luke Savage, DEA agent, is not thrilled when he hears that her partner will be a rookie from the local police department, but he is determined to put down the Mexican drug cartel that started to expand their network to the Midwest.
They have to act like a happy couple which seems to be hard since they don’t even like each other. But the attraction between the two of them is undeniable. Trust doesn’t come easy, but it is vital if they want to get out of this assignment alive.
Can they manage to get the information they need before everything goes south?
And the main question will they be able to keep their hands off each other?
Well, spoiler alert, the answer to the second question is: they can't.
This story gives you everything you wish for. There is a little bit of everything in there, humor, romance, suspense and action of course that keeps you on your toes just as the constant bickering of Bree and Luke.
I liked the characters, and I was rooting for them to get together the whole time. I really enjoyed this book.
Just a fair warning, this book contains foul language.
