It’s been two months since Greta Albright’s blood was spilled by her own hands. Scarred from one too many losses, she fell into a spiral so destructive, she couldn’t find her way out of the rubble.
Two months since she died … and was brought back to life.
Aaron Beckett, the man who had been there to pick up the pieces of her heart, a heart unwilling to be put back together, has scars from that night too. An aspiring rockstar whose music died the moment he felt her heart stop, he’s struggling to recover from the near-loss of the woman he loves, spending his days distracted inside the walls of his auto repair shop. If only the job could chase away the nightmares that come once the sun sets.
Now, after a brief separation, Greta’s back in Aaron’s orbit, her sabotaging ways seeing a second chance to wreck the life of the man who saved hers.
Unless, this time, she saves his. Unless, this time, they save each other. Unless, this time, they can overcome their demons to give life and love that second chance before their song ends for good.
Wow! I was completely immersed in their world! Our Song Has An End was the second book in Malynda’s Exes & Exits series and can be read as a stand-alone. It was raw, gritty, and full of emotion.
Greta had been lost and tried the only thing she thought would make it stop, except it wasn’t her time to go yet. It wasn’t easy the first time, so how was she going to figure it out the second time?
Aaron had to watch the life drain out of Greta. It scarred him in ways he thought he would never recover from. But when she comes back in his life would it continue to be harmful or would it help them both heal?
Talk about complete opposite from the first book in the series. I wasn’t sure about Greta going in but the more I read the more I understood her. It was painful yet beautiful to watch these two figure out their way back to each other!
3.5 stars ARC generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. This will be published April 21, 2022.
This book was significantly better than the last in the Exes and Exits series. I found it easier to read and less repetive—keeping my attention on the book instead of my surroundings. Aaron and Greta's story tackles the hard battle of inner strength and character growth. A redemption arc in many ways. This was a great addition to the series!

When Malynda reached out to me about this book, I was beyond excited. The first book of this series I fell in LOVE with. It was exactly the kind of healing love and support I needed to read at that time.
BUT for this book: Check. Trigger. Warnings. Please please always check trigger warnings before starting any book and I would definitely recommend the same for this book as well. I wasn’t triggered by anything in this book, however I was not prepared for the heavy content of this book. When I started Our Song Has an End, the very first page delved straight into pain and darkness that I wasn’t expecting, which made me pause the book for a time. Surprisingly I came back to this book when I was feeling a little low rather than when I was feeling good.
The first ten-fifteen percent of the book is definitely heavy. The author lays the ground for the characters, their pain and their helpless downward spiral. The author’s writing has made this part of the book feel immensely immensely real. It will not be easy to read. After the initial struggle in getting past the dark depths of the book, I found myself flying through the book; intrigued by the characters, their friends, choices and wondering where and how the author was going to take this story.
The book delves into the breaking apart of a person’s mind, heart and soul and then… into the coming together of time, support and strength.
When Greta was first introduced, I couldn’t find a way to relate to her, and then I realized Malynda wasn’t trying to make her character relatable. She wasn’t there to prove or justify her characters’ thoughts or decisions (of both the present and past) to the readers and once I figured that out I liked that. It felt real. No one needs to prove or justify themselves to anyone.
When Aaron was introduced there was a completely different state of mind Malynda introduces us to. Outside of being well written on how distinctly varied their struggles were from one another, this also makes the dual POV very clear. Aaron’s characterisation makes him more relatable and his choices endear him to the readers.
The supporting character in this book is *chef’s kiss*. Fell in love with her from the beginning.
I loved the way the author writes her healing and how she depicted her ability to do so with both her books. Healing is very different for each person and it is not defined by how quickly you move or how much time you take, or even how you arrive at it. I would’ve loved to see that process with more depth, especially because I do feel that Malynda did such a fantastic job writing the mind of someone struggling internally with their relationship with life. The love story in this book is already established and it’s entwined with the healing in many ways and sometimes because of that I felt that they both at times feel like they could’ve been better explored.
However the heart of the book is really moving and the pain is palpable. We don’t get too much insight into the past, however we certainly get the emotions from the past. On that front Malynda has killed it. I would say this book can be read as a standalone. I’d read the first book many years ago and don’t remember too much from it and was perfectly fine reading this beginning to end.
Four stars. Check trigger warnings and happy reading! I can’t wait for the next one. Malynda has succeeded in intriguing me!
This book will consume your soul and every waking thought. I loved this book even though I felt it was very dark and intense but the story was mind blowing. I cried through the anguish Greta and Aaron felt and I know this book will haunt me for some time to come. There are lots of ups and downs as Aaron and Greta fight their demons but theirs is a beautiful love story of two damaged souls connecting and also loving especially when Greta feels that she is not worthy of anyone to care or lover her. Aaron will make your heart beat again whist he does everything he can to help Greta overcome her personal struggles. Loved this book from Malynda Schlegel who is a new author to me but one I know I will be reading much more of her work. Highly recommend this book but keep he tissues on hand.
I received an arc copy from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Our Song Has an End is the beautifully bittersweet story of Aaron & Greta. Aaron loves Greta when she can't love herself, and he will ruin every other book boyfriend for you. While this book is second in the series, it is not necessary to read them in order.
I've had to pause and come back to writing this review several times because words can't do justice the emotions this book evoked in me. I saw a part of me in Greta, a lot of my fears and anxieties came to live on the page and it surreal and haunting.
Also, I'm always extremely gratified by the intimate scenes in Malynda's books and she definitely delivered again🔥🔥🔥
Holy well of emotions. This book will drag you through it. You feel as if you're at the scene of an oncoming train, knowing it's going to derail. You want to look away from the hurt it's going to cause, but you can't because you hope and pray everything will be all right. That's what it's like reading this book. I was gripping my kindle. I mean white-knuckling it at times, waiting for the pain from the characters to subside. Watching them work through their demons to get to their happy ending was gut-wrenching, but produced a beautiful ending.
Whoa. This book takes your soul, in the best way, like you need to be devoured by it, in the same way Aaron and Greta devour each other, themselves and the world. Devoured slowly.
Greta battles the demons she created, battles herself until she fights enough to realize she is enough. Aaron battles the world his, hers until he finally shows himself as a true warrior, never backing down. Theirs is a story or redemption, a story of believing in yourself even when you can’t.
I was so swept up in the ups and downs of their story, it wasn’t easy watching their struggles but seeing how it all unfolded was amazing.
