[T]he most important of all Christian beliefs is the one that brings joy and assurance to God's friends everywhere -- the truth about our heavenly Father that was confirmed at such a cost by the life and death of His Son.
God is just as loving and trustworthy as His Son, just as willing to forgive and heal. Though infinite in majesty and power, our Creator is an equally gracious Person who values nothing higher than the freedom, dignity and individuality of His intelligent creatures -- that their love, their faith, their willingness to listen, may freely be given. He even prefers to regard us not as servants but as friends. This is the truth revealed through all the books of Scripture. This is the everlasting Good News that wins the trust and admiration of God's loyal children throughout the universe.
Like Abraham and Moses -- the ones God spoke of as His trusted friends -- God's friends today want to speak well and truly of our heavenly Father. They covet as the highest of all communications the words of God about Job: "He has said of Me what is right."
This book helped open the door in my mind to embrace a loving God. I had questions about God being vengeful and severe. I saw Him as forgiving but only after shame and guilt lead me to repentance. God isn't like this. He is a loving God who calls us His friend. He values our freedom and desires us to come to Him freely and willingly. To do otherwise is to worship Him in fear, which produces a rebel. God is love. There is no fear in perfect love. And the Father loves us and is just as forgiving and kind as Jesus, His Son. Jesus told us, "If you have seen Me, you have seen the Father." (John 14:9) This book opened my heart and mind to a loving Father whom I can trust. Its message answers many questions. For those seeking to know the Father, Son, Holy Spirit and what the everlasting good news is, I recommend reading Conversations About God.
NOTE: When I ordered this book it was free through the publisher, pineknoll.org. I checked the website and it is still being offered free. (04/23/2022)
I've read this book twice. It is not a fast read, nor is it meant to be but it truly helps to shape a vision of God that is loving and not harsh, arbitrary or unforgiving. I've had so many questions answered--and if not answered completely, helped point me in the right direction for further reading and study.
This book will help you form a picture of a loving God who wants the best for you and all of His other children. "God can heal and save all who trust Him." This picture of God makes me want to get to know Him better!
Important questions most need answers to and want to fulfill. Pairs well with The God Shaped Brain by Timothy R Jennings. Hold this book close to my heart. Definitely has helped me grow.
