When Liz Jordan’s creative writing instructor criticizes her novel, Liz gives the first chapter a little twist, and magically enters the world of her book’s dystopian future as the main character, Erin. Liz knows what’s coming, as long as she follows what she’s already written. And meeting Lance, the perfect man she created on paper, is a nice perk. But as small deviations from her script begin piling up, Liz finds herself trapped in a story she didn’t plan. Can she get things back on track? And, as the characters she's befriended are put in greater danger, is keeping her plot the same really what she wants?

At first, this was a struggle to read. I either hadn't read the blurb or read it so long ago that I had no idea what I was getting into.
I kept waiting impatiently for the romantic 'conflict' to be resolved. Then I saw what the author was doing and realized things were going to jump off a completely different cliff.
Instead of turning out to be the predictable story I expected, it kept taking surprising turns right up to the end.
I'm vaguely dissatisfied with how it turned out for character XYZ, but kudos to the author for doing something different.

This is my friend and neighbor. So fun to read something, someone you know, has written. It has some different twists in it, while still sometimes being typical of the genre and a YA read. I enjoyed it!
