This is an amazing series. Thankfully, it continues with number 17 in early July. What it possesses that many other books do not have is the descriptive text not just relating of a story. The beautiful descriptive passages about the Lakes District in England puts the reader into the setting. You tramp with Skelgill and you see what he sees and you are there. The characters are wonderful not just outlines but real people with flaws and idiosyncrasies. Skelgill is such a rounded character who fishes and roughs the wild terrain and appreciates the wildlife he sees. Romance is alluded to with his young, beautiful sergeant. We see the family life of the male sergeant. We watch the characters grow and develop. I can imagine a long running tv series set in the beautiful Lakes District. The author’s use of language is beautiful to read and it rounds out the story being told wonderfully.
I really enjoyed these books. I have recommended them to friends. DI Skelgill books have great characters, the plots are believable and at the same time surprising. My only regret I will have to wait until July for a he next one.
I have enjoyed every book in this series and eagerly await the next installment. This three-book compilation (books 14-16) is every bit as exciting as it’s predecessors. Book 16 — Murder Unseen — is a special treat: DS Jones and Leyton are assigned cases while DI Skelgill is on leave. Relying on their own methods to investigate two puzzling crimes, they discover personal strengths and a new appreciation for Skelgill’s idiosyncratic genius. Edge-of-your-seat entertainment. Highly recommend.
This is an extraordinary analysis of the process of investigation in this English city and surrounding area. It doesn’t dwell heavily in personalities or psychological imaginings but rather explores those things as they relate to the characters’ roles in the investigation. The central character is learning from his colleagues ALL the time. CHECK OUT MY COMMENT BELOW
After reading so many of the novels featuring DI Skelgill, you'd think I would tire out reading them. But I love this character. Sometimes he comes across as an older man, but I love his love of the outdoors, fishing, and mountain climbing. He always has a good bit of wisdom to share with his collegues, too, which feels welcome in the reading. What ever he is up to next, I'm a fan.
The author delivered another trio of great British detective, crime, mystery and all round enjoyable novels. Sadly my heart is broken because have caught up with what is published. Now I have to wait. Bummer love this author.
