Rate this book
A #1 bestseller on Amazon actors and auditioning list! Longlisted for the 2022 Theatre Book prize!
Unlike any actor's 'memoir' you've read before, this hilarious, luvvie-free, behind-the-scenes, no-holds-barred account of Millson's first decade in the second oldest profession takes you through the impossible slogs of auditions, the endless disappointments, the fragile successes, and ultimately into the bones of what really makes an actor. the final ingredient is a love affair with the work itself. Acting as an obsession, as a religion, as a distraction, as a solace, and often as hell."IT'S THE PROPER STORY OF AN ACTOR'S LIFE - NOT THE CHAMPAGNE AND AIR KISSES, BUT THE GRAFT, THE DOUBT, THE DEBT, AND SOMETIMES, JUST SOMETIMES, THE BLISS." Russell T Davies"DANGEROUSLY UNFILTERED!" Dame Harriet Walter"A JOY TO READ." Mark Ravenhill"VIVID AND FASCINATING." Dame Celia Imrie"FUNNY, AUTHENTIC AND PAINFUL." Sir Richard Eyre"IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN THE REAL LIFE CHALLENGES OF A WORKING ACTOR, THEN THIS BOOK IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL." Irvine Welsh"BREATHLESS AND HIGHLY ENTERTAINING." Michael Simkins"READ, GIGGLE, BLUSH, YOU WILL HAVE A BALL." Andy Nyman

Very insightful read!
Anyone who believes actors and those in the entertainment industry have a charmed life, need to read this book.
There are a very small percentage of those in that industry that do not live hand to mouth!
There are laugh out loud moments in this....the incident with the nappy & Sir Peter Hall LOL!
I've been privileged to have seen Joe Millson in a couple of plays on stage and Love Never Dies where I got to actually say hello.
I look forward to reading the next book!
