Retrospectiva 2020: Reflexiones breves sobre un año largo

Rate this book

Antonia Wang's poetic stride is on full display in her latest release "Hindsight 2020." Like a well-conditioned athlete, Toni is able to pivot gracefully between a myriad of forms ranging from definitive and visually styled prose, to cleverly metered pieces, succulent with rich and delicious flavor. Readers will also note Toni's well-established craft for incorporating and ingeniously building her poems around keywords that would otherwise seem out of place, and she does it with virtuosic efficiency. I particularly enjoyed the sprinkling of accompanying footnotes throughout the book. I found them geographically and historically informative, and I appreciated how they supported their respective poem. Fans of Toni's previous efforts will find themselves immersed once again in the unique artistry of her wordplay as they traverse the harrows and difficulties faced by so many in the wake of the ongoing pandemic in a way only Toni can depict. I could not put this book down, and can't recommend it enough to readers new and old.

I thoroughly enjoyed the thoughtful, original poems in this book. Ms. Wang has a gift for writing evocative, layered pieces ranging from introspective, relationship-oriented themes to gorgeous musings on the human condition. Her sometimes unusual word choices and nontraditional perspectives combined with her lyrical, emotional style makes this book a compelling read and illustrate what a true poet she is. Highly recommended!
