Jyoti lives a hard life in Mumbai, hiding from her turbulent past, and struggling to give her son the best future possible. That past, however, inexorably catches up with her. And thus her life unfolds her promiscuous youth, the religious divides and patriarchal dictates that she had flouted, the cruel price they exact. Leaping from one impetuous choice to another, she learns to survive, rebuilding her lifetime and again. But will peace ever be hers? Will she secure her son’s future? She despairs, though she has lowered her bar of expectations from the good to the good enough. And the resilient optimist in her hopes again…
Being Good Enough is Jyoti's story. Her father is a politician trying to establish his image as a staunch devout of Hinduism. When Jyoti's love affair with a Muslim guy Samir gets disclosed, her father threatens her to kill Samir if she doesn't get married to a Hindu boy chosen by him immediately.
Seeing no way out, Jyoti gets married to Amar who turns out to be gay. The narration switches back and forth from present day to the past, currently Jyoti is living in Mumbai with her son, Abir and Munni Masi. How did she end up in Mumbai? What's her full story?
The narration is top notch, I really admire the author's choice of words and writing style. The story is fast paced. Characters are well written. The story also presents patriarchy and double standards of the society. The plot is interesting and engaging. Jyoti's character is strong and blunt. She gives a good fight whenever she can. The book is a good and interesting read.
What a mother can do for her child is something that doesn't have any boundaries. A mother is the most precious and the most expensive gift from heaven to us. . Such a journey of motherhood is defined in this book. A journey about the struggles and hardships of a woman and a mother, Jyoti. She lives in Mumbai and tries to give the best of life to his son, Abir. Jyoti is managing her job and life and tried to balance everything just for her son. Even after facing a horrible past that can make you cry even when you just hear, she is all set to brighten up the future of his son . Abir on the other hand loves his mother and respects what she is going for him. Though he also remembers his father. He thinks about what his father must be doing and look like. . When everything was seemed good for Jyoti suddenly the air of past incidents comes and she again had to live that terrible past. . What was his past? What was her hardship? How is she dealing with everything is something you need to know.
The book will tell you the real definition of women's empowerment and the power that a woman holds within her. Our protagonist, Jyoti is a strong character and we can learn so much from her. She sets the new level of what women can do. . A must-read book for all the girls out there.
The crisp and engaging narration with an interesting writing style keeps the readers invested in. The story keeps flowing between the past and present of Jyoti. Her love for her son, the mystery with her husband, her bond with her family, everything is beautifully described. I fell in love with her and Aman, when she was working with him.
The characters are well developed by the author. Each character has a story to tell. The story shifts between Mumbai and Delhi. The way the author described the bond between Jyoti and her Masi, is beautiful. It's a bit slow-paced story with a smooth flow of words.
The series of events that took place in Jyoti's life, that changed her. I loved Joyti's attitude of never giving up. I liked the story full of struggle, pain, loss and love. Not to forget an unexpected climax and a beautiful cover.

The cover of the book is aptly designed and the title is very gripping and hypnotic. The plot of the story is captivating, engaging and realistic. It is a perfect blend of thrill, horror, drama heartbreak and pure love with lots of twist and turns. The author has very well kept the balance between the past, present and future events which is a very toughest job.
The language used is simple and lucid. Chracaters are well developed and described by the author. Jyoti's character is portrayed very strong, full of hope and positivity. Hats off to the author for writing such a good book on women empowerment.
Motherhood is the most precious feeling in this whole world. It makes you feel complete. And trust me these are not just words. It's a universal truth. Even in primitive times when man did not even know sentiments how to grow his own crops and were wanderers even then they use to look after they young ones. And this book is this the celebration of that kind of motherly love. The story is beautifully written. The representation of the Indian society with prejudices and restrictions are bang on. The characterisation has been represented with maturity. The prolong and the beginning manages to create a suspense which had successful kept me glued to the book. The language used in book familiar and a very realistic feel to the book. Overall I think it's a great book with a fabulous message and sentiments.
Jyoti Gupta, a single mom lives with her son in Mumbai. She had a dark past and now struggles to live and give her son a good life. But then her past catches up to her.
This is a book that brings forward woman empowerment in it's raw form. Jyoti's past was a truth slapped onto the surface. The things that she goes through her life were maddening. The story of Jyoti was sad and painful but also happy at times. She had to survive in dreading situations and rebuild her life . It was questionable at times if she could ever find the simple joys of life. This book was filled with emotions and touched my heart . I was crying and laughing and angered and smitten. Jyoti is a strong woman , an optimist . She never lost hope ,no matter how dire the situation was . I think we can all learn something from her and this book. I liked the side characters and the plot This book was painfully beautiful and I really appreciate author's storytelling .
This is a beautiful story about our protagonist, Jyoti. She is living in Mumbai, India currently. The only goal in her life right now is to give her son a good and happy life to her son. She is a single mother living with her only son. But as the plot goes in her past life comes and kicks in hard. Her life is disturbed yet she manages to get over her past life's incidents one by one as she had left those dark days far behind. This is a beautiful story with emotional content thatit will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions and feelings. This simply shows the courage of a woman that she holds in within herself. The narration is good. The language used is lucid. I finished it in one sitting only.
I adore Jyoti Gupta, the main protagonist of Being Good Enough by Rohini Parnajpe Sathe. Courageous, with a mind of her own, curious, questioning, unwilling to accept age old societal dictates, she strides the narrative with a larger than life personality. She is not without faults, she makes mistakes, but she learns and moves on. Jyoti is an ordinary young woman but her heroic attitude to life makes her extraordinary. To me, she feels like such an apt figure of our present times. A world, which is being led & held to account by courageous young women who refuse to be cowed down by powerful male figures in establishment.
Rohini’s evocative style of writing drew me into the powerful story of Jyoti’s life. The opening line of the first chapter simply picked me up from the more sterile environment of the UK where I live and deposited me into the sights and smells of a sabzi mundi in India. The chapter has a cliff edge ending and left me hungering for more. Chapter 2 deepens the mood of a looming crisis by opening with a beautiful description of an atmospheric, smoggy winter evening in Delhi. After that there is no stopping the energy and flow of the story. Jyoti and many of the main characters in the book are victims of the power dynamics between family, politics and religion. Rohini explores these subjects with deftness and raw emotion leaving me rooting for Jyoti and willing her to make good of her life. I was struck by how rarely I cheer a character in a book as I did Jyoti.
I also loved the way the story weaves back & forth in time and between two vibrant cities, Mumbai & Delhi, with their distinct cultural norms, different social milieus, dissimilar topography, all pointing to the diversity that makes India so interesting. I think this is a story prime for screen adaption.
It has been a while since I have not read many fiction books hence, I thought of picking few of them before getting back to non-fiction and self-help books. The 2nd book that I read in a row is Rohini Paranjpe Sathe’s “Being Good Enough”. This 214-pages book is not just a book but I must say it’s a therapy. Yes! This is one of the most well-written works I have read recently and I am guilty enough to say that it was in my shelf for two years and I don’t know why I didn’t pick it up until now. The story is about a girl named Jyoti who has unintentionally walked on a path which has broken every rule set up by her parents in the name of patriarchy and religion. She is been tortured, harassed and suppressed at home and it results in awkward and horrible actions from others even outside. She goes through a traumatic experience continuously but she still doesn’t lose her strength in the process.
The story is very courageous and there are times when you would want to cry out loud due to the traumas the protagonist is going through. At times, you want to shout at her for making decisions she knows will hurt her later. Her dilemmas when she becomes a mother whether she should share about her past with her son or keep it hidden makes you feel pit in your stomach. I am a boy but I could still empathize with her character completely. Rohini’s writing is very solid and commanding. She knows how to drive her narration to make the reader be with the story. Throughout while I was reading, I felt that I was transferred to another world altogether. Every time I kept the book aside, I would find hard to come back in my own world. I know this sounds exaggerated but that’s the zenith level of writing caliber I am trying to convey.
Author’s command on the language is powerful as this is one of the perfect books to understand how to use great vocabulary and do justice with English grammar. Even the way author starts the book without disclosing past of Jyoti which initially confuses you a bit but eventually things start becoming clearer as you are taken into flashbacks. All of this is executed so seamlessly that even when you are jumping timelines, you don’t feel getting mixed up or disconnected with another timeline at all.
Author has used many philosophical elements while explaining us about her protagonist’s mindset as well as through the conversations between important characters. There are many long paragraphs in the book which might make your reading experience little difficult but when I was thinking where author could have broken the paragraph to make them shorter, I couldn’t find one reason why it should have been shorter. There are questions on life, God, religion, patriarchy, cities, death, spirituality, gender, siblings, same-sex love etc. but none of them sounds preachy or forced. All of them are part of characters’ situation which makes it hard for you to disagree with unconventional thoughts that author wants you to ponder upon.
The story will make you smile and cry. The whole section and chemistry between Jyoti and Aman is such a beautiful part in this book that without it, the book would not have been half as good as it is. The way Jyoti’s father and brother tries to push her down against her will tells us a lot about how our society is formed where females are sometimes, tortured in the name of protection. How some men are too horrific to handle are portrayed through the characters of Rathore and Sameer. Every time, I would read their name and Sooraj (Jyoti’s brother), I would get so angry that I could feel short-breathiness even while knowing that I am reading a fiction story. The role of Jyoti’s mother and mausi are so nicely portrayed that even though they have very less part to play but they tell you a lot about our society and women of previous generation. Kudos to author for justifying a dysfunctional family so perfectly.
The climax of the book finally gives the satisfaction that I was waiting for. I am glad that I had a smile at the end rather than another sprint of tears forming in my eyes. Though, after keeping the book aside, I had tears of happiness. As I said in the starting paragraph, this is not just a book but a therapy. All of us go through enough pain in life but when we read a story of this kind, we understand what real pain is. I could very well relate Jyoti’s character with that of Sushmita Sen’s in the web series- Aarya. It’s almost the same journey where a lady goes through a pain again and again after finding a ray of hope which vanishes immediately after it appears. If you liked that series, this book is even better. I give this book 4.75* out of 5. Please go for it!
FAB - BOOK REVIEW OF "BEING GOOD ENOUGH" by ROHINI PARANJPE SATHE
Genre - Fiction (Contemporary)
Rating -4.5/5
QOTD: A book that you are so connected with and brought you tears?
''BEING GOOD ENOUGH" is a book that connected to me so much. This book is a perfect example of simplicity in writing, and it reminded me of 'Sudha Murty's writing style. I am not saying that they both are the same, but instead, I was saying about the similarities both share, how simplicity in writing helps connect in the book a lot. The clarity in writing can take the reader to another level. This book is not an exception, and I am so proud that I read this book as there are some thousands of books it is humanly impossible to read them all, but I want to read them all somehow! And out of those thousands of books, somehow by grace, I picked this book up, and I had a fantastic time reading it. . This book is about the protagonist Jyoti, a single mother to Abir, where she is surviving hard to live in the so called night city that is Mumbai. She has gone through a lot in her life and struggled so much to lead a life now. She has Abir with her, and she needs to look after him, so she is trying her level best to make a living and live peacefully by leaving her past in the dark and stepping into the light by opening more doors. Due to some difficult circumstances, she couldn't let go of her past, and here Abir loves his mother, but at the same time, he thinks about his father about his likes and dislikes and how he looks like and just basically about him. What made her live her past again? What made her relive in her dark past? To know everything about what happens, you definitely need to read the book. . The language is lucid, and the book is fast-paced. I really liked the character's development, and the author has mentioned a lot of reality in the book, which made me delve deep into the book even more.

Book- Being Good Enough Author- Rohini Paranjpe Sathe Type- Fiction Format- E Book Rating-4/5
Being good enough by Rohini Paranjpe Sathe is one of the classic fiction book with amazing sense of thrill. The story is about a mother and her son who lives in a metro city. Struggling life with unpleasant past, there was nothing for Jyoti except of moving ahead with her son Abir with positive vibes.
The story takes the reader into several themes during the storyline which makes the story very interesting. It is worth mentioning that life is not just about accident of our birth, who we come from, the where (s), why (s), how (s) of it all; its about what we do with it and the choices we make.
The best thing I liked in the book was the way in which the brotherhood and motherhood was portrayed by the author. Perhaps one of the unique book covering these two aspects in one storyline. This paves the way towards the takeaways of the book.
First takeaway is that struggle and hustle is something which is needed for moving ahead. Those who can act positively on a negative theme, future welcomes them with glee. The second takeaway which was reiterated in the book is that if you love truly someone, it can overcome all kind of obstacles be it religion constraint or be it customary barrier. If we talk about other things in the book then –
1. Language of the book is easy and comfortable. 2. Narration style of the author was noteworthy. 3. Plot was well planned and executed. 4. Book cover is apt for the storyline. 5. Emotions were beautifully drawn in the storyline. 6. Characterization was stunning though out the book, especially of the protagonist. 8. Pace of the story was fine.
There was nothing in the book which I particularly disliked. Only thing I didn’t like was that few unnecessary changes in font style precluded the book to demonstrate its real beauty at few sections.
Overall book was a good read. I liked the book and strongly recommend for those who like fiction books
This is a story about Jyoti and her tragic life. It has a heavy measure of patriarchy and an underlying tone of being wronged, to always be haunted by the past. The book starts with a cliffhanger, why did Jyoti run and more importantly from whom?
The book is steeped in descriptive vistas and a catharsis of emotions through a diorama of characters delicately set throughout the story. While the story strongly revolves around the society’s firmly held gender biases- and not just the two genders, it is set amidst the communal undercurrents. The words and the plot would keep you engaged, the inheritance of loss would keep you involved. The story starts with a particular dark night and a girl’s infatuation, knowing very little about how it would forever change her life. The richly detailed plot explores the intersection of class divide and societal stigmas. As an author, I liked how indelibly all this is amidst the routine of life- Jyoti, the protagonist it seems is just a medium to throw light on the proverbial ’dirt’ in the society. That, from her birth- the stage is set against a girl. The society would closely watch her every step and glare. The story highlights the internal strife of a woman through Jyoti's thoughts. The family, outsiders- all seem to have some ‘dirt’ on her but then she finds solace in a man only to lose it again to watch it go down a mire of events.
The author has used a very lucid language with a slight proclivity for adjectives, the plot is replete with plot twists and return of characters which you thought were over. The narration seemed slightly theatrical at times but never overdone. The language fits well into the plot and was even cabal from time to time. The story highlights the flaws in our society and the ‘log kya kehenge’ vibe. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book. Look forward to more from the author
Someone said " Behind all your stories is always your mother's story, because hers is where your story begins. "
Being good enough by Author Rohini Parannape Sathe is story of a mother Jyoti who sacrifices her entire life to protect her son from her own family.
Jyoti was born and brought up in an affluent religious powerful Hindu family got hooked up with a Muslim man and her life changed completely. Her family forced her to get married to an unknown person from a rich family. Here she had everything money, power, peace but still something was missing. Her husband Amar was a great person but he did not love her. They both were very good friends but they did not enjoy their lives as husband and wife. And one day on birth of her son Abir, Jyoti had to leave Delhi and she settled in Mumbai with her son and Masi. The struggle of her life began there but still she was happy with her son and proved herself an independent strong single mother. But your past never leaves you alone in peace and thats what happened with Jyoti and again she had to fight with her past to protect her son and her own self esteem.
Will Jyoti will win again? Will she able to give her son the peaceful respectful life? Will Abir respect his mother knowing her past? Life is full of struggles, it depends on us how we fight and win and this beautiful story portray the struggle of single mother and win our hearts.
All characters are well crafted, my favorite is Amar. He did not love his wife but stood by her in all her decisions, be it wrong or right, be it when they were together or septated. Easy language and sharp narration makes it a fast read.
A cup of coffee and a good book, what else we want on Saturday evening? Go for it friends!
Book : Being good enough Author : Rohini Paranjpe Sathe
How often do we yield to the desires of the family? What if the choice of life partner becomes the reason for the separation from the family? What if , we never want to build bridge and hold grudge with the family members? These thoughts spurred in my mind while reading the book Being Good enough. Jyoti is the female protagonist. She, though belonging to a conservative joint family has her own school of thoughts, that doesn’t match well with the people in her family. She is not someone who is willing to surrender to patriarchy. Her story is told in two different timelines ( 16 years apart). The young Jyoti is head over heels for her boyfriend who is from a different religion. The news of her in love with Sameer spreads like a wildfire and she had to face the wrath of the members of her community. Jyoti gets the shock of her life when Sameer disappears all of a sudden and she is force married to Amar who is a way too older than her. Jyoti tries to be happy in her marital life lest she realizes she is thrown to a situation where she can never escape. She and Amar eventually become friends and understand each other. Litter did they know they have the shock of their lives. The other timeline is all about Jyoti and the apple of her eye Abir. ( In the end we can connect all the dots) Rohini is an excellent story teller and she makes the readers to travel along with Jyoti in her book. A lot of concepts make us have a different perspective.
Why did Jyoti and Sameer had to part away? And will they ever cross the road again? Are Amar and Jyoti happily married as they pose to others? Why is Jyoti leading her life as a single mother? Do read this book to know these answers.
Women always have to face the dark side of our society. Isn't it true, that they are crushed and used for people's selfish interests, use them as a way to take out there frustrations and many more cruelty. This story is about a Single mother who is fighting for her kid, from his family and the society.
The story revolves around Jyoti, a single mother leaving with her masi and her child Abir who is now in class 10th, in a Chawl in Mumbai. She works very hard and do two jobs just to secure the future of her son as mentioned in one of the scene "she literally lives for her son." But one day her dark past comes down chasing her all the way from Delhi to Mumbai.
Jyoti is daughter of a politician and was trying to campaign the elections on the terms of religion, getting all support from Hindus. Here Jyoti did a minor mistake of falling in love with a Muslim boy. Her father and her brother threatened her to marry a boy of their choice or the boy and she both will be killed. How she ends up in Mumbai and will she be able to outrun her past again and secure her son's future are the questions that the story answers.
This book speaks the truth on point, the scene where Jyoti is having a conversation with her brother is so on point, and it triggers so many emotions anger, sadness and hatred. The character development is done in a very good way. The story often moves in present and past making the story intriguing. The pace of the book is good and the narration of the story is done very well with simple language.
The book is of drama genre and lovers of fiction genre will definitely love this.
Book - Being Good Enough Author - Rohini Paranjpe Sathe
Hey guys how are you all. May ge you are fine The book contains the fantastic story of how hard Jyoti is living her life
The story in the book goes arounds Jyoti who is a protagonist and used to work hard to fulfill her sons wishes and needs. She had just ignored and forgotten her past and moving away from that past . She had faced very much difficulty at that time and now she is solely managing herself and her son. We find many people in our life sometimes its better to quit , but sometimes it didn't work to quit , people call it as seeking from problems but guys many time life give only one chance, and at that chance we only get some short period to prove ourselves right and to copup with such a situation . My point of view towards Jyoti is , she is doing right but gives her son and availing the things which he doesn't actually need it is madness because due to it , her son will and can demand the bigger thing then the previous one. Guys i m heartily saying to you all that we actually don't know how hard our parents has raised us , we disrespect them it is very bad guys . Our parents are the one who love us undemandingly and They are the one who love us more then we use to lovw them. So guys respect parents love them , take care of them And at the and of thoughts i would like to rate that the language lucid and Easily understandable.. My ratings Overall: 4/5 Title : 4/5 Cover 5/5
Being Good Enough is a book which can be picturised as a happening movie easily. The chills I felt on my spine, the rage I felt when some of the characters said some serious mean things, the emotion I felt throughout the whole stories' ups and downs and most importantly how I could literally feel relatable with Jyoti, the main character of the story. This book tells us many things about our society that how patriarchy has always been used against women, how women are always left unheard. How someone's sexual orientation can become a subject to discuss in the worst way, how homosexual humans live their lives in fear of losing it all. This story tells us that a marraige can easily be based on friendship and trust and nor entirely on sexual relationship. This story shows us the atonement of being typical middle class backdated Indian parents. This story tells us about a boy who has seen his mother and aunt protecting him from all evil even if it meant ' die or let die'. I could say a lot more about the book which Rohini Paranjpe Sathe wrote. I would like to thank the author for writing such a truly bold story that I would recommend to each and every book lovers that I know. The story is about rising above all evil. The story is about giving it all when it comes to save your child. The story is about doing a mistake and realising it. The story is about a strong woman and am equally strong man, who stood by each other from the first to the very last.
🌸Story of a divorcee woman Jyoti, who is working hard in 2 shifts to give her son a better life. It's very hard for her to adjust in this metro city but she is putting every effort for her son Abir.🌸
🌸While struggling with her past. She never thought that she will have to face those things again, which are going to affect her future.🌸
🌸Abir completely understands his mother who is balancing 2 jobs but sometimes he misses his father.🌸
🌸Jyoti's struggle in the book depicts the life of a single mom & the author has done a great job. She did justice with the characters.🌸
🌸What we read in the book is the harsh reality of our society. It's difficult for everyone to break the social norms and follow your path. If you try to do that they will push you backwards, in these kinds of situations you need faith & believe in yourself. In my opinion, only persons with a strong belief system can break all these barriers & they're the ones who set an example in our society.🌸
🌸Interesting read although the story is a bit predictable. Narration and the character development was good. The pace of the story is catchy and engaging with so much thrill in the story. I loved all the twists & turns.🌸
🌸What I learned from the book?. • Sacrifice & Hard work • Hope & Positivity • Love, Affection & Care🌸
🌸Overall a good book, worth reading. Best for the newbies. I will recommend this book to everyone who wants to read something positive & satisfying.🌸
The author has crafted an insightful exploration of self-acceptance, growth, and the pursuit of personal fulfillment. This book is filled deeply into the human experience, addresses some common societal pressures, the impact of social media. . The story starts with the character named Jyoti who went on the street alone at the midnight , she met with a boy and her Munni massi saw her and asked her what she is doing alone at midnight , to cover herself jyoti made an excuse of exam tention but her massi saw a boy on bike she asked about him. Scared jyoti disclosed the boy named Sameer who’s an electrician in her father’s shop. Her massi started convincing her to stay away from him because he is muslim boy but jyoti was not ready to understand and for which they argued a lot standing there at late night. Then there is an incident when jyoti saw a girl in the market named poonam who is used to be in college with her and she just ran away from there and reached to massi and told her about the girl. Massi and jyoti, they both got afraid. massi start questioning her like did poonam know them? What if she tells anyone? They both get panicked especially massi. They came Mumbai, left everything and everyone behind in Delhi. Jyoti is just thinking about the child Abir . She don’t want to disclose the happenings in front of the child Abir. alot of secrets are folded You must give it a read and get to know the trust. Its a interesting read. Highly recommended.
The book is the first one in series which talks about hope, life, love, loss, gloominess and healing. Falling, breaking and then healing are the three main sub themes consequently oriented throughout the books. Nishaan and Shikha being the protagonist of the story have done justice to the genre of self help with a twisted tale of stories.
The meaning is deep and intriguing but the narration is somehow exaggerated at places making it a bit lengthy read and sometimes monotonous in approach. Other than that, it has in store a plethora of sentiments ranging from depths of love to the black hole of depression.
The author is appreciated for his hard work in compiling such bright essence in the words which are sometimes left unsaid and neglected. The book on such a theme is recommended for the young generation readers to look into their lives with a different perspective and observe how concoction of aspirations, failure and comebacks work.
The book is an autobiographical framework of the author which describes his life in a nutshell just for others to seek in the wonders of learnings he aspire to give. Editorial aspects could have been enhanced giving it a more metaphorical touch to the plain and unsalted story. Other than that, the book is a decent one time read with its spellbound essence.
Mothers has some special powers. Yes, they go through to so many things yet they remain happy and strong and all if that they do just for the happiness of their child. . To take you on journey of motherhood and women empowerment, this book presents you with the life of Jyoti. Jyoti is living in Mumbai running away from a dreadful past that she had once lived. She is trying very hard to give the best life to his son, Abir and to fulfill all his wishes. . Even after going through to broken and emotional phase, she never shows anything to his son and stays happy before him. Abir also loves his mother but at times he even remember his father and want to meet him. He wants to know how he must be like, what's his likes and dislikes. . When the struggles are continue in Jyoti's life, her terrible past knocks the door of her life once again and makes her life horrible. What is her past? Who is her husband? Is it related to him? . The book is very interesting and moreover inspiring. The concept of women empowerment and motherhood is presented with utmost care and beauty. The author has given life to jyoti's character in a way that can make you fall in love with her strength and motherhood. .. This is one of the best books i have read in recent time and i would recommend this book to everyone
It’s a long read so it took me a while. I will briefly summarise the blurb here. The protagonist of the story is Jyoti. She is a single mother to Abir. She works hard for her son’s good future like juggling between two jobs. Abir understands his mother completely but many times he thinks about or missing his father like when he likes maths, if his father likes that too or not. They live in Mumbai. So their lives have little bit more struggles to survive. Jyoti has something hidden from her past. She never thought that she will have to face again and that will impact her future. Read the book to know that major plot twist. For me the story is more or less predictable but I liked how author has portrayed patriarchal society and that’s influence on single mother and on her struggles. I could totally relate to it as I work in rural part of the India and there still people face such issues like influence of society and religion. They have to obey certain rules and customs. This book portrays it well. So this can serve as awareness type literature. The language of the book is lucid that way everyone can pick it up. Author has kept well balance between past and future events that can be confusing while writing. I liked the major plot twist. Overall good one.
Story of that book is similar to that quote. There are people who fights with odds in their life, make themselves a strong person day by day & set an example. Through that book you can get another example of hard work, sacrifice, love , affection, care& fighting against the odds. Being good enough by Author Rohini Paranjpe talks about the most important thing which so called society often ignores it to be. Author narrates the story from the character of Jyoti. Protagonist Jyoti lives in Mumbai. She is a single mother there; she works very hard to give her son the best upbringing & education. But she has a past, very dark though. Read the story of a single mother & what she did to raise her son. It is a story of her hark work (basically her two jobs) & sacrifices. Story is gripping, you will definitely develop empathy to that fictional character which seems to be real and at the same time you will get inspired by her. The way she raised her son and be a mother & father both is quite tough & that to in city like Mumbai but that’s off to that character which truly depicts life of single mom’s. Language is beginners friendly. No such dictionary required whiling reading that book.
This is the book which unfolds the story of our protagonist Jyoti Gupta, or we can say , it unfolds the story of every single mother out there who's facing social hurdles every now and then, just to safe guard her children's future. Here in this story, we learn how a mother manages to deal with all her life problems just to secure her son's future. Protagonist lives in a small home in the big city, Mumbai.
After reading this story, I felt the pain and agony that one must be feeling while living in such a harsh social environment when nobody is there to help you or hold your hand just to sympathise. Moreover, please don't talk about anxiety, depression, hypertension, panic attacks etc. in our society normally. Which must be discussed more frequently, specially in areas where people like Jyoti are living. This book tells us , how strong a mother is, and how kind enough one should be, to the people who need us. So know to the full story of Jyoti and to find out whether she came out to be good enough for her child , just grab this book and read ! I really liked the plotline, cover was so soothing snd title touched my heart. Being a debut novel, this book served a lot. I appreciate the author for her narration.

🌻God is the biggest and most dangerous lie that humans have ever invented. . Such an unconventional read. The book breaks and talks about so many stereotypes with such ease and the story is quite interesting.
The book revolves around Jyoti and hardships of her life. Leaping from one impetuous choice to another, she learns to survive, rebuilding her life and again. But will peace ever be hers? Will she secure her son’s future? . ~The book is sad and painful but inspiring at the same time. ~The author has very nicely put forward the patriarchal mindset and how women have to face abuse daily. ~The story has enough twists and turns to keep the reader intrigued. ~I loved how fearless and powerful the character of protagonists was. Calling out her family for the wrong things, putting her sexual needs openly in front of her husband. We need more books like this. ~Overall, an amazing read.
"Being Good Enough". Ever thought that you are good enough for this world or in general your own family. How far can one strive for the welfare of their families? In this book, you will witness the same.
This is the story of a struggling single mother. She is running away from her obnoxious past and doing her bit create a bright future for her son. But her path is hurdled with societal pressure. Like these all were not enough that her very disastrous past showed up.
This story is a bit too long, which I believe could have been cut short by the removal of a few demonstrations. The plot, however, unintentionally resembles to a South Indian movie I watched a few weeks back. But, I really appreciate the punchline put in by the author. The blurb is a clear analytics of the story but to understand the whole issue, you gotta read the book.
I loved how desperate our protagonist Jyoti got when she was brought face to face with her past. In a matter of few events and she was jumping from this decision to that, so that she can protect her son from misery. In a very calculated amount of emotions, the author has proven that a mother's love is beyond any measure. Cover is a perfect portrayal of story, so is the title.
When I first held the book, Being Good Enough by Rohini Paranjape Sathe I thought it would be a self-help book, but getting into few pages I realized it was beautifully written lyrical fiction. Like, the language being easy made reading more pleasurable and engaging. I really want to appreciate the choice of words by the author and the way it has been written. And the attention to detail in the surroundings and settings have been done very well.

Leaping from one impetuous choice to another, she learns to survive, rebuilding her life time and again.
Throughout the book, I could feel family drama was explored, encapturing the raw human emotions. Shedding light on what difficulties a middle-class family goes through in a metropolitan city.
What I loved the most was Joyti's constant struggle for a better life and finding her independence out.
