What a fun book! This is exactly the kind of book I would seek out as a kid- filled with facts and entertaining. While the target audience is much younger than I am, I can confidently say that most adults who love trivia will also enjoy this one and learn something!
This unbiased review is based on a complimentary copy provided by the publisher.
As an adult I really enjoyed this book and I always wanted to read this kind of book when I was younger too – if you gave me a nonfiction and a fiction I would always go for the first option!
This is the third book I have read in the Big Ideas series and I think that they are great - I loved the punchy style of the different facts and trivia that you learn as the book progressed, I love the natural world and this was full of facts you don’t always get on a David Attenborough documentary too - plenty to give you a giggle about, some food for though but best of all, it is fun to read!
I can see this being a massive hit with children too - it is 5 stars from me for this one, I loved it and can easily see it being a firm favourite!
Princess Fuzzypants here: As a Maine Coon, I was naturally drawn to a book with this title. I knew why but now all you humans who read this book will also know. The book is an easy ready with fun artwork that could be read in one session of dipped into at will. It is set up in a variety of categories and covers facts about many creatures- furred, feathered, and scaled.
Some of the facts are clearly included for the enjoyment of the younger reader but it is a fun book whatever your age. And it is jam-packed with fascinating facts you can use to dazzle your friends and family. I give it five purrs and two paws up.
This fact book has different categories such as Crazy Creatures, Peculiar Pets, Feathered Facts, Creepy Crawlies, and Slimy Stuff as well as some trivia that tells where certain terms like Cat Nap come from. My favorite fact was that a leech has 32 brains and some leeches have 300 teeth, with 100 in each of their three bloodsucking jaws. I learned quite a bit from this book. I think it could have been made better if it had included some pictures of some of the unique creatures mentioned. A super enjoyable animal fact book for all ages.
It is adequate at providing facts but at times a little more detail would have been appreciated. There are many similar books out there and I wouldn't recommend this one over any other.
