I'm starting teaching Kindergarten in a few days, and this was a bit young and a bit outdated, plus repetitive, but there was still a lot to learn.

I am teaching a reading class this summer at the Carnegie Center and it has been about a year since I have immersed myself in the research and literature about reading. This book was really good. It had all the solid basics and foundational activities and thoughts about reading it also had new creative ideas...and that is praise indeed coming from me. I like the last half of the book where it gave lots of ideas for each letter of the alphabet which would have been great when I was a preschool teacher. This book is geared for the preschool age but defintely can be adapted to children as old as the 3rd grade.

I checked this book out from the library and am waiting until I can check it out again. It has so many good resources for working on literacy with children. There are printouts for flannel board and alternative forms of storytelling(other than reading a book). There are tons of ideas for each letter of the alphabet, including recipes, games, rhymes, stories, etc. I recommend this to any mom who is looking for things to enhance learning at home.

I skimmed this more than actually read it. It seemed great for the preschool set. Lots and lots of songs, rhymes, and fingerplays for each letter of the alphabet. It wasn't what I was looking for right now.
