Rate this book
She’s dedicated her life to helping others. Now she’s the one who needs help.

Growing up as a foster child, Payton Underhill found a purpose as a social worker aiding women and children. After failing to be there for her best friend when she was needed most, she pours her heart and soul into her work, even if it means bending the rules to be there for her clients. But she finds herself in over her head when her client’s trouble spills into her life. With a dangerous threat looming, being on her own is no longer a strength, but a liability.

He wants to put the past behind him. But with family, the past is never far away.

Jay Colter is ready to move on with his life. He caught the man who drove his sister to suicide, so now the past can be laid to rest. But he can’t say no when his mom calls for a favor, even if that favor involves the woman who ghosted his family when things got tough. His plan is to go in, solve her problem and get out without looking back.

When it comes to love and danger, nothing is ever easy.

Payton has been half in love with Jay for years, but she never expected him to show up on her doorstep like her wildest fantasy come true. He’s not going anywhere until the threat on her life is gone. And now it’s not only her life at risk, but her heart as well.

Book Three in my Knights of KSI series is here! KNIGHT'S TEMPTATION features Alpha Team leader Jay Colter and social worker Payton Underhill. There's a third character who is an integral part of the story - though she's not an active part of the action or suspense. Jay's baby sister Addison was Payton's college roommate and best friend. She's the reason that Jay and Payton even know each other. When the book begins, Addison has been gone for four years, but her presence is felt. Addison is described as a force - a whirlwind of life and vibrancy. Those of you who read Book Two remember Addison's story being revealed in that book, but her story continues in subtle ways in this book.

Payton had a crush on Jay the first time she saw his picture in the dorm room she shared with Addison. Because Payton has no family to speak of, Addison drags her home for every school holiday, and that's when Payton feels a strong bond with the whole Colter family. When it comes to Jay though, he barely gives her a second glance, and she's too shy and awkward to do anything to change that.

Fast forward four years, and Payton is now a social worker for a federally funded program that aids women and children. After what happened to her best friend at the hands of Emmett Carter (blast from the past in Book Two), Payton sees her job as the opportunity to help other women escape terrible circumstances and find a better life. This is her passion and what drives her to agree to help a young woman named Mary. Only Mary isn't asking for help for herself, but for her friends who are in difficult situations and are in need of a blonde-hair, brown-eyed guardian angel named Payton.

Mary is mysterious but obviously has a heart of gold when it comes to being there for her friends. She doesn't trust many people, but Payton proved to the young woman that she could be trusted. They form an unusual quasi-friendship, and Payton doesn't give up hope that one day, Mary will share her story and seek Payton's help for herself instead of others.

But Payton's relationship with Mary brings an unknown danger. Someone knows how Payton and Mary have worked together to help other women, and that someone is a dangerous person who is not a happy camper. Mary warns Payton to stay away, but Payton can't - not when Mary has no one else to turn to.

In a moment of weakness, when she's overwhelmed by the danger that's threatening her, Payton reaches out to Addison's mother - the one woman who has been like a mother to her since her own mother died. Just talking with Ginnie Colter and reconnecting with the sweet woman does wonders for Payton's outlook, but Ginnie decides just talking to Payton isn't enough. She hires Jay to protect Payton and put an end to the threat on her life. When Payton finds Jay on her doorstep, she's mortified...and overwhelmed because the feelings she had for him all those years ago are still there and more intense than ever.

What happens after this is a wild ride that was both a joy and a pain to write. No matter what ideas I had for this book, Payton and Jay refused to let me dictate how their love story would unfold. When this all came together, I loved it! It's exciting and fun and hot and intense, and Payton and Jay together melted my heart. As with all my books, there's definitely a happily ever after, but the journey to get there is well worth the read in my opinion.

Two secondary characters who stand out for me in this book are, of course, Mary who has such a big heart for other people hidden underneath her strong, street-smart facade, and Davi. I won't talk much about Davi except to say pay attention whenever Davi comes on the scene.

You'll also see a return of some of our favorite characters from the previous books, Tristin and Kat, Cole and Sydney, and the rest of the Alpha Team, Zane, BB and Wings. As with the previous books, KNIGHT'S TEMPTATION is a standalone book, so you don't have to read the other two before you read this one.

I hope you enjoy this book, and I hope that you'll love it so much that you'll decide to read the others (if you haven't read them already). I hope you fall in love with my knights and their heroines because they definitely have a special place in my heart.

A true love story

I love Jay and Payton's story. The suspense kept me on the edge of my seat, and the connection between Jay and Payton is undeniable. All the trials they go through and heartache they've been through make their happily ever after so much sweeter. Shelley Justice's stories just keep getting better.

Exciting!

Reading about Jayson and Payton was so exciting. The suspense was cutting edge but the love story among family, whether blood or not, and friends was awesome. I look forward to more books written by Shelley Justice.

Great series

I loved this story and really loved Payton and Jay together.

I loved how they got together and found the storyline interesting with lots of suspense as well as a great falling in love story behind it.

The story did twist and turn and the characters just kept coming throughout the story. The author wrote these people in really well and they, plus the existing characters meshed in a great way.

Looking forward to Zane’s story but suspect there is a bit of heartbreak coming.

I'm loving this series! This book had be from the start and I couldn't put it down. When she shows backup in his life he didn't realize she's what he wanted but first to deal with the danger around her. The rest of your favorites from the other books are also back to help, of course. Can't wait to dive into the next book!

The grief and pain that bring Jay and Peyton together is amazing. It is a relationship that is built on shared emotions from a mutual hurt. This was an excellent story that allowed them to share a relationship that they didn’t realize they wanted or needed.

With each successive book in the KSI series, Shelley Justice's growth an an author shines through. Knight's Haven was great, knight's Rescue was better and Knight's Temptation was even better. The characters are stronger and more dynamic with interesting backstories. The action is faster paced, riveting, intense and powerful. And the sizzle? Phew, let's just say it's hawt!

Jay Colter should be relieved after finally taking down his sister's murderer yet there's a restlessness inside him. Finding out his sister's best friend is in trouble gives him purpose but there's an underlying anger in him. Payton Underhill is soft heartec and strives to protect those who can't protect themselves and it seems there's now a target on her back because of it. Having the man who was her best friend's brother show up to help her should be a godsend but this is an angry man who's demanding answers. Eventually they talk and make peace but finding out why she's in danger with so little intel to go on pushes Jay and his Alpha team to their limits. The more time Payton and Jay are together the stronger the attraction becomes. Now he needs to get out of his own way and acknowledge his love but first he has to take down those who are gunning for her.
