I was exceptional, but they didn’t see me. I was bold, but they didn't hear me. Mature, but not taken seriously. It wasn’t by chance I ended up where I am. It was the choices they made, not the options I had. I battled demons and monsters alike. Each time they stole something in the fight. I rescued myself. Now... I want out.
This book is very eye-opening. It gives a young woman’s perspective & experiences of sexual abuse growing up. Throughout these stories, you come to realize the way that sexual abuse can warp someone’s experience of life & and it significantly affects the way in which they develop, leaving a large mark on them for the rest of their lives. The author is very open about what she has been through as a survivor, and I believe this is great for others who have been through similiar situations to feel comfort in knowing that they are not alone. I am excited to see more work from her.
This book is about the difficult moments in the author's life that she has overcome. There's a lot of characters that affect the main character for better or worse and sometimes both. It is a very realistic view of how some abused persons view their abusers and how it shapes the way they interact with subsequent partners.
Written in a way that paints a very vivid picture in the readers' minds without superfluous words.
