Before I state my opinion, I just want to mention that I've not read any of the previous books in this series so my review is solely based off of this book only.

I went into this book thinking it would be a paranormal horror novel, but it was more of a gore horror. This is a very heavily descriptive book of the torture methods. The storyline may seem a bit confusing and you may get lost in the pages but I have to say it was quite interesting. I really enjoyed reading about Dr. Lyma and Dr. Peel's character. On the other hand, a lot of the characters were confusing to me like Faithe and Ereasha.

You have to be extremely attentive while reading this book because each and every line has an impact on the storyline. From the very beginning it felt like a rollercoaster ride and I'm sure it won't be everyone's cup of tea. I personally do not like gore, which is why I rated it a 2 star. However if you do like such horror genre then you can give it a try. It's a very short book of less than 180 pages.

In terms of writing, the descriptions of the scenes were written in a way which made it easier to visualize the horror that was going on, which is a talent. Hence, if you're not into gore, then reading some scenes will definitely make you feel nauseous.

I couldn't understand what was going on at all, I couldn't grasp the context nor the characters.
The first chapter felt really gory and almost made me want to DNF but I was curious what this was really about. I am not sure if I did figure out anything. Maybe this is not meant to be a stand-alone and I am at fault but I don't think it could have made that much of a difference since the characters weren't understandable at all.

The thing about the 'Weeping Mothers' felt really sad to read because it made of think of mothers who had maybe lost their child(/ren) and hence were always sad.

I do think the writing was easy to follow so that's a plus.

The book is simply not for the faint-hearted, I was unable to sleep properly the night I finished the book, the vivid descriptions of torture could make you feel that it is happening in front of you. The books seems a connection between the previous books and feels more of a filler and a build-up for further books, The dreams of Butch, the fear of Dr. Peel, the dedication of Dr Lyma, the might of Josker would keep you awake and not let you keep the book down, If you are of the sadist type or one who loves to see others suffer, this is a good time killer for you. Overall to summarize it up, it is a good mixture of pain, fantasy and storyline which acts as a good filler for the main story.

It's my first book of this series, I don't know if I need to read the rest of previous background to understand 100% of the things that happen in the book.

But personally I enjoy read it, the description of the scenes were well done, because they were precise and concrete, in the beginning I was a littler loss, but when I understand that was a real world and not just the imagination of one of the characters all make sense.

And, was a little sad that he was just another victim I believe he was a importan character.

Was a small book so if you are a fast reader you can finish the book in one day.

OMG! glad to finish this. Hella scary book! At first chap, I was so confused not knowing anything about the series but by the second chapter, it started forming a horror torture story that can haunt you in your dreams. It would be much harder for me if I weren't used to reading and listening to gruesome murder mysteries( still it was!). Fast-paced short horror story. Chapters are short and you can finish reading like me in one sitting. My reason was different, I didn't want to let it haunt me for days so yeah you do you.
I don't know who needs to read this but sure if you have a little puppy heart, DON'T! BEWARE!
You will know just by the first chapter that it's going to be sick.

I always love reading horror books and this one i enjoyed thoroughly. I enjoyed how the descriptions are very cleanly written. The language is very easy to understand hence it was easy to enjoy it too. It was indeed chilling and terrifying. The asylum set-up made it scary too. The gore scenes were pretty nicely written. The suspense stayed for a good time too. And also this is such kind of a book that will stay in your mind for a few days as a hangover. Indeed a good choice to pick up if someone enjoys a good asylum horror book.

Wow, this book was a ride. It was gory and definitely not for the squeamish readers. However, with that being said, I could not put it down. I was hooked on the characters and I needed to know what was going to happen to them. The way the book was different than I'm used to, with the different paragraphs instead of quotations, which was strange at first, but I ended up really liking the change of pace.

Thank you to booktasters and Jaws R for sending me this book!!
