Bhediye Ko Dust Kyon Kahte Hain? By Quentin Greban- Hindi language translation by Sumit Tripathi- Children’s Illustrated Colour Picture Book- The book narrates the story of Why a Wolf is called a Devil? There was a time when Wolf was a simple animal without cunning. He lived with his family. One day he walked out and found a lambkin walking. Lambkin had separated from his group. Wolf smiled and showed his teeth. Wolf saluted to the lampbin. On show of bright sharp teeth, the lambkin was afraid. He ran to share his fear with the pig family. Lambkin informed them that the Wolf showed his angry teeth to eat him. The term “angry teeth to eat him” was not the intention of the Wolf. Lambkin misunderstood the smile of the Wolf with show of teeth as his intention to harm and eat him. This wrong message was passed between pig and crane, crane and ass, ass and mice, mice and hen. This message is passed to other animals’ deer, rabbit, duck and birds. Birds talked that wolves are killing and eating all weak animals. Wolves heard the birds calling them names. Rains started and lightning struck. Wolves were afraid and ran for shelter. Since then whatever is said about Wolves is overstated. Coloured illustrations help the reader to relate to the story. I have read the Hindi language translation of this book.
