Islamic Sciences: Astronomy, Cosmology And Geometry - Ibrahim Hakki's Marifetnāme

Rate this book
The Marifetnāme, deals with classical scientific subjects such as mathematics, astronomy, medicine and physics, and also offers discussions on modern scientific concepts and makes certain contradictory statements on "Islamic science" and "science." It is an interesting Islamic and scientific encyclopaedia in Turkish. Ibrahim Hakki was an eighteenth-century Turkish saint and religious scholar who was an expert in anatomy, astronomy and mysticism. He presents the fundamental theories of Islamic cosmology concerning heaven, hell, barzakh, skies, earth, the planets of our solar system, solar eclipse, lunar eclipse, seas, mountains, and the function of human organs, diseases and other medical issues as well as Islamic mysticism. In every part of this research, Dr. Ali Akbar Ziaee referred to Marifetnāme to describe Hakki's position to Islamic cosmology, geometry, evolution, and astronomy.

The book is a translation of the original version by a Turkish Philosopher, Ibrahim Hakki. His writing reminds us to always trust in religion's belief due to its accuracy and irreversible. While scientific discoveries might vary. This book outline arguments regarding the flat earth, 10 facts were elaborated.
Islam prohibits us believing in astrology phenomenon and predictions. So the question remains if cosmology has impacts on human event and how does it explained scientifically.

I liked the book. It showed that during the ottoman era there was an intellectual activity taking place in fields related to astronomy and space sciences. Ibrahim Hakki’s(d.1780) Ma’rifatname was brought to light through this book. It is an insight to the intellect activities happening during that Era. Useful book who’s looking for the history of astronomy.
