This volume covers ch. 71.2-139.1 of the web novel and covers . | Read on Tapas.
Gosh, how I love Roxana and Cassis. These two were made for each other, and better yet, they're extremely hot together. I would read an entire volume of them just chilling together in the annex, basking in each other.
Unfortunately, that's not really in the cards. I had known , but oof, that was a rough arc. I wasn't sure how it would unfold, and the end of this volume left me wondering.
I was surprised, however, that Nix was not the creepiest part of the Gold Clan arc by a long shot. The entire place is incredibly creepy, but Noel is probably the creepiest part of it all. Why is a man with the emotional intelligence and intellect of a 7-year-old in charge of a clan again? This man is so unaware of his own behavior that it's honestly disturbing. People are not real to him--his dolls, on the other hand, are. .
Side note: someone on Tapas wrote a comment on Cassis becoming an "obsessive" male lead, but I disagree due to two important aspects about his character: number one, his desire to keep Roxana away from this world feels motivated by real and justified fears. All the men that had approached her thus far have either hurt her or wanted to hurt her by stripping her of her autonomy, locking her away, and using her. Quite literally, save for her little brother Jeremey or Cassis's men and family, everyone is looking for ways to possess her. And he had seen where she grew, and how unconcerned she is with the state of her own body. Before Cassis came along, she was literally willing to die. Wanting to keep her away from all this ugliness and away from people who view her as a possession doesn't feel "obsessive." It feels "anxious" and "natural."
Number two - he doesn't act on any of his thoughts. Not once has Cassis Pedelian tried to stop Roxana from doing something. Not once had he tried to force her away, tried to cage her, tried to force her to hide herself. He doesn't clip her wings--he ensures she is well enough to fly. Even though he would like nothing more than for her to be tucked away safely in their territory and never have to deal with another vile person ever again. The most he does is offer suggestions on how things can be better or come to her rescue when she needs help. Roxana herself thanks him because he makes her feel safe and loved and like she doesn't know how to shoulder the weight of the world alone anymore.
That's why, to me, he is not an "obsessive" male lead. His concerns are valid and rooted in real, not imagined, hurt that his beloved had sustained, and yet despite it, he never once forced her into the shadows.
Some other random thoughts I had - I wonder if Grizelda and Ishdore will end up together. I know they appeared in a third of a scene together, but my spidey senses were going "NEW SHIP!" at them, lol. I'm also rooting for Jeremy and his revived Black Clan. I really like the notion of Roxana being the catalyst for overarching change in the clans. Of a new era with less deranged clan leaders. I'm very excited to see where the final volume of the main story will take us, and even MORE excited to read the side stories volume because I need some R 'n R after this lol
