Raven Manor - Ghostwolf Series.

Raven manor has dark secrets… and it’s up to Detective Hanlan to find a killer but all signs point to an animal… A wolf but something isn’t adding up. Is something supernatural going on and can he put a stop to it before it is too late?

What I can tell you is this author does a lot of research. The mythology surrounding the werewolves was thorough and enthralling. I found myself really drawn into the lore and descriptive way the author brought the whole supernatural world to life for me.

Hanlan doesn’t know anything about his new partner and it doesn’t sit well with him but he even seems to have extra senses himself and I love his no nonsense attitude and his ability to bulldoze through the evidence with an open mind.

I enjoyed the mystery too. The writing is solid and the world building was surprisingly vast for such a short novel. The characters were great, a lot of aggression as you would expect from werewolf books but it was all very clever and well done.

The book leans to the side of being more dialogue which is a tad unusual for fantasy books but I think it worked pretty well here. I like the urban fantasy genre done this way, it feels more realistic while giving you a little of the unknown.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

As soon as you meet your main protagonist, Hanlan, it instantly feels like you know him. He gives off all the best vibes of a 1950s grizzled detective living in the modern world. He is charismatic, in his own way, and feels like a trustworthy narrator as he takes you through this murder mystery.

The supporting characters all have their own charm, too. As does the town, precinct, and the premier location of Raven Manor.

I love a spooky old house with twists and turns, and I can tell the author does too. Mix that with some original lore and supernatural accents, and you've got yourself the first book of the Ghostwolf series.

The chapters are short, which keeps the reading moving fast. It's easy to devour this book quickly.

If you like a classic detective and a plot with a supernatural twist, then this might be the book for you!

I really, really wanted to like this. But...

The plot isn't bad. There is a new kind of werewolf. Different. I like different.
But the characters are dull as dishwater.
And the telling... The telling is duller. It reads like a protocol. Short sentences only. Endless repetitions of everyday tasks, but very little about the werewolves, how and why.
And the solution to the plot is just not believable. I can't suspend my disbelief that the Captain just accepts the very thin explainations.

Excellent read. Will immediately start book 2 and then will have to wait for book 3 whenever she completes it. So good that I'll probably reread the first ones before the next when it comes out. That's my thing with a lot of series.

Werewolves

Really interesting reading. This was a page turner. It gave background and history so it wasn't far fetched. Can't wait for next book.
