Wounded and weary from their battle at the military base, Will and Isabella want to rest and gather their strength for what lies ahead. But as the military continues to battle foreign insurgents bent on gaining control of Houston, Will and the others must flee the city or risk being pulled back into the fight.
The trip out of Houston won’t be easy.
Danger awaits them at every turn as they make their way across East Texas. Desperate and dangerous people have flooded the roadways fleeing the fighting ravaging the city. It becomes a constant struggle for survival.
But with Houston now a war zone, there’s no turning back.
No Turning Back is the third book of five in the Fall of Houston series.
This series has been giving others I have read, a run for its money! So thought out and very put together! My love for these books is something else. Always learning new things! Keeps you on your toes and ready to see what happens next! I feel so connected to the characters!
Book 3 was excellent, exciting to see where book 4 goes. The story is moving along well and really like how you bring the local towns and cities into the plot. Also like how Will’s son is growing up and you bring Will’s extended family into the story. Look forward to book 4.
This book is the fourth of the series, and naturally the fourth I’ve read, so you could say I have invested quite a bit of my reading time getting to know these characters and their struggles. So, I was so pleased to see the author deliver yet another great addition to the series. Things are constantly shifting, often with life threatening results, for each of the characters for many reasons and TL Payne keeps the tension turned right up. Each scene furthers the story with that tension sometimes giving way to all out action. This book, and I would say the series as a whole, balances both the ‘bigger picture’ with the trials of the regular ordinary people caught in the aftermath as they struggle to survive. Well written and with great moments of action this is another sure fire hit for those of us that love post-apocalyptic fiction as we get to see the world we know fall apart. There’s bad guys and good guys and we’re not always sure who can be trusted but, like the characters themselves, we don’t get long to decide who is who and who can be trusted. Great addition to the series.
I liked this book better than the previous two. There was a lot more focus on surviving to get to their destinations and less on the FBI/CIA pursuit of bad guys. Nonetheless, the threat of insurgency/invasion is there though while the Chinese insurgents would have come up from the Gulf instead of the west coast and why they are amassing in the bayou is kind of a mystery. There were a few editing issues the most glaring being when Wade and Derek are in a room with a hostage Will. "A round struck Wade in the head, and he slumped onto the floor." Derek jumps back as two rescuers charge into the room. "Wade’s hands flew into the air as he scrambled backward. The larger of the two men stepped into view. “Tank?” He squeezed off two shots, and Wade dropped to the floor." I think this second Wade was really Derek but how confusing! I liked Monte and Tanner as characters as well as the Texas ranger. I look forward to seeing what happens in the next book now that Will made it home.
I have just finished reading book three "No Turning Back". I was very surprised at the number of errors, not in spelling but rather in continuity I won't go into each detail, because after I went back and read the authors dedication and the fact that it was a very "dark year" I understand that authors can have a a bad year too as we all have during this Covid year, I have lost a very close friend, so I consider this past year a very dark year too. I have read all the books from T.L.Payne and thought that this one was very atypical. I hope T.L.Payne recovers from whatever hurdle life has thrown and continues doing what he/she does best. I look forward to the fourth book.
No Turning Back by T.L. Payne is the third book in the Fall of Houston five book series. I have a hard time reviewing this type of series by each book, so I'm talking about them all as a unit. This series could have benefited from some heavy editing. I think cutting it down to two (or possibly three) books would've been an improvement. A lot of the action in this story gets repetitive. People get into trouble, then fight their way out again and again. I got tired of the main character constantly saying all he wanted to do was protect his boy. I also thought the politics of the situation were a bit simplistic. Communist countries don't cooperate with each other just because they're communist. Unless I was a true blue fan of this genre, I'd skip it.
The day the EMP hit the United States wasn't a day Will or Isabella, TL Payne's main characters in the Fall of Houston series, expected to be called to serve our once great nation. Set in Houston, Will and Isabella are struggling to survive the aftermath of a hurricane and EMP as they set out to make their way across east Texas towards Will's childhood home.
Attacked by insurgents, Will, Isabella and their group are called to protect their nation from enemies both foreign and domestic. Houston is a war zone. Payne brings an action filled thrilled ride of a story with No Turning back.
Interesting enough to keep me reading all night! Waiting for book four. Little confusing when it gets to my e and luca. Quad to stop reading (thought it was lack of sleep) no first thing in the morning June kept switching to jane. Only hickup. Still can't wait for the next book.
After a helluva trip to his Grandparents farm which his sister had taken over after they passed Will finally felt the comfort and even the joy that only having your Family and a Good Community to be a part of could give. My prayer is that I will have that same thing in place when the SHTF as I believe it will some time soon.
After getting away from Houston And Leaving Gus and jazz at her mother's they picked up a new person Walker The Texans range Ranger. They make their way In to Louisiana Where all hell breaks loose in town. Well gets captured escapes and makes it finally to the farmfarm.
There is no shortage of action but it seems to much and to quickly. There is no down time to build story lines, just goes from one crazy traumatic event to the next. Everything fell apart to quickly and multiple bad guys, almost everyone is a bad guy. I am so far into the story I plan to finish. It isn't horrible but seems excessive.
Chinese insurgents fighting American forces, Houston destroyed by this and a hurricane and an EMP. Will his son and friends, trying to leave Texas, to get to his family in Louisiana. Fighting all the way.
Having all the main characters deal with one crisis after another is a good way to keep our interest in the story. It’s a page turner for sure but describing one fight then another and another gets boring after awhile.
Interesting and well told apocalyptic story with trouble from multiple sources. Apparently an EMP has been detonated above North America and foreign troops are landing on the southern coast. Plus you have marauding citizens robbing and killing.
Sometimes we find out what is the most valuable going through tough times. I really enjoyed this series of books so far. I hope the great writing continues.
It honestly keeps getting better in each book! I am enjoying the read and seeing what is happening at the same time as the earlier series with different characters. Highly recommend!
If a apocalyptic event like this occurred a lot of people wouldn’t have the survival skills to survive. Even though this series is fictional if this truly happened too many people would lose hope fast. Excellent book series
I love survival books and T.L. Payne is a great writer of these type books. I liked the storyline and characters a lot in this series. Some sad moments and kept me interested. The further I get in the series the more attached I am to the characters.
This is the best series. So suspenseful and action packed from the first page to the last. I can't wait for the next one in this series to come out. Happy ☺reading 📚!
The third in this tale of post-apocalyptic life in the southern states of America sees Will and Isabella along with family and friends overcoming multiple challenges in their attempts to survive.
Well the gang has made it and lived through the journey to Will’s sister’s place. Get the books and see what happened so far in the story. Leave your reviews!
Found it to be very descriptive of what life might be like following an actual attack. It also defined several groups and how they might respond in such a scenario.
Lots of action and a ton of new characters. Some good character development for the main three as well. It's still interesting and I want to know what happens next.
