The author says that it's high time that people should become aware of this disease and take effective steps like eating healthy food, proper exercise, etc to avoid the risk.

FOOD MATTERS by Dr. Shubham Pant. The Role Your Diet Plays In The Fight Against Cancer.
💢 Personal Experience: My mil was the fittest in our family, that's what I thought until she got diagnosed with breast cancer. It came as a shock and we stumbled to deal with it. She went ahead for the treatment with medications & surgery & we thought finally its over. But.. Around 1.5 years later, it resurfaced & she again had to go for surgery & medications & even chemo this time. Although we were better prepared w.r.t the know- how now but still it was a shock. Thereafter, it was a emotionally, physically & mentally draining process. She is a bold woman & faced everything with utmost valour & grace. From hairloss to loss of muscle mass, to lethargy & no taste in mouth, to constipation & diarrhea..it is a tedious process. Eventually she is returning to normal life with; - proper nutritious diet, - small & frequent meals, - proper rest & - exercise like daily walks.
💢 The reason why I am sharing all this is, because I felt the book talks exactly what we went through & more. Everyone doesnot need to go through it to learn. PREVENTION IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN CURE. Although the exact cause if cancer cannot be ascertained but it is assumed to be a lifestyle disease.
📕 HOW DOES THIS BOOK HELP? This book is written by Dr. Shubham Pant who is well versed with this field. He focuses on some mundane sol.ns to PREVENT cancer. He explains the link between diet & cancer & also provides some easy recipes to inculcate in our diet.
This ~ 200 pg book is divided into 3 broad parts; 1 Diet & Cancer Prevention. 2 Eating Healthy during Cancer Therapy. 3 Surviving Cancer. The before, during & after of cancer care.
💢 genre: health/ non- fiction. It adds great value, has insights from real life experiences, easy language, simple changes which we can make in our diet & lifestyle, gives data & stats plus busts some myths like superfoods & forwards/ messages which go viral w/out proper authentication about cancer/ diet & much more.
💢 Worth your time 4.5/5.

About the Author
Dr Shubham Pant is a professor at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
'Food Matters' is an extensive, almost academic observation of food practices, dining-table habits, epicurean culture and everything that's wrong with it. I have made an extensive list of takeaways (pun very much intended) from this book. I, however, urge you to read and make your own.
1) The culinary horrors of Social Media - Dr Shubham Pant, an oncologist based in Texas, urges the readers to not succumb to the click-bait articles that promote fad diets but pay attention to the ones that have passed the test of science as well as centuries. He talks about fake and marketed articles in social media, the ones that claim a fruit or a particular grain to be 'superfood' and then present the reader with a convenient link to buy the said superfood.
2) The curse of Cancer- In India, 60% of total deaths are due to lifestyle diseases. Cancer has jumped from seventh to fourth position in causing maximum number of deaths. Dr Pant writes that the longer we live, the more are the chances of developing cancer since vast majority of tumors are detected after 55 years of life. He accuses social media as a spreader of misinformation and gives an example of an article that circulated immediately after the news of a famous Hindi movie heroine struggling with breast cancer. It advised its women readers to 'not wear a black bra during summer'.
3) 93% of children ear packaged food at least once a week. It is always advisable to go back to whole grains.
4) Tobacco has 69 cancer causing chemicals. Quit it.
5)Fibre in Food is our friend- Plant-based fiber rich diet should be incorporated into our everyday food. Fortunately, traditional Indian diet is quite close to the diet that should be eaten to keep our health in pink. Ragi or Finger Miller is ideal for a healthy living. Jowar or Sorghum is rich in starch and is slowly digested. It's good for diabetes since it doesn't raise blood sugar abruptly. Glycemic index of pearl millet and barley is less than white bread and so less chances of harm to a diabetic.
6) An average Indian consumes about 10 spoons of sugar a day. That makes it about 18 kg in an year!
7)People who are more physically active have 24% less chance of colon cancer.

🍇 Have you ever gave importance to your food intake? Have you ever thought food what you eat actually Matters?? If not, i would strongly suggest you to read the book. Author had shared his own jouney as an oncologist.
🍇Book is divided into 3 major parts. First one denoting the diet and cancer prevention, second one denoting eating healthy during cancer therapy and the third part speaks about Surviving Cancer. 🥗Hola bookstagrammers! How about a non-fiction read that relates to the significant role of nutrition in the fight against cancer, written by an author with the insight of an oncologist and the expertise of a nutritionist?
🥗 This book is a research-backed guide for cancer patients of three stages — before diagnosis, during cancer therapy, and survival after treatment. It is divided into three sections, with each section statistically highlighting the importance of nutrition at all levels. There are healthy, lip-smacking recipes included at the end of each section, which is highly helpful for cancer patients.
🥗The author has painstakingly presented enough graphs, tables, and diagrammatic representations that capture our attention to various issues pertaining to cancer and health in general. He maintains a conversational tone throughout the book and this makes it us feel not bored with a book containing so many facts. He has also included stories of real-life people who have successfully battled cancer and their journey of hope.
🥗 I would definitely say that this book is a complete, comprehensive health guide for cancer therapy. No, don't blindly follow every recipe or health tip mentioned in this book, rather try which works for your body type and rigorously follow it! The author has also highlighted about breast cancer in men, something which I didn't know existed. I thought only women get breast cancer 🤕
