A paintball battleground. A wrestling mat for sleep-deprived new daddies. A feminine product aisle in the local drugstore. These are some of the places where men connect...at least in The Bromantic Comedies.
A compilation of humorous and heartfelt plays exploring what it means to be "masculine" in a world where men are supposed to be tough.
Erin Mallon's debut romantic comedy novel, Flirtasaurus releases in July 2020. She is an award-winning narrator of over 450 books and an accomplished playwright and producer in New York City. She has written over 40 plays, which have been produced Off-Broadway and all over the country, including These Walls Can Talk, a raucous theatrical love letter to the romance audiobook community. She lives in a little yellow house on the outskirts of NYC with her husband and Three J's.
Note: I received an advance audio in exchange for an honest review.
What a brilliant play of audio starring performances of Joe Arden, Shane East, Teddy Hamilton, PJ Ochlan, Lance Greenfield and Jason Clarke.
I loved every single audio clip, and the advice doled out: fatherhood, confidence needed as a man, handling women products as a guy, surviving through a tough time, trying not to please everyone even as a pet, following your dreams even if they seem strange to everyone else.
I can't wait to hear more from all the narrators, and reading/hearing more from Erin Mallon. Truly brilliant, the whole thing was.
The Bromantic Comedies is a great collection of plays written by Erin Mallon and narrated by some much loved narrators, Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Lance Greenfield, Teddy Hamilton, PJ Ochlan.
All of the stories feature their perspective on things like fatherhood, advice and my favorite the classic i-jacker who only likes to talk about themself.
Invasion at Man Camp, Domesticated, Baby Fight Club, Check Out, Good Working For You and Thick Gnat Hands are filled with plenty of laugh out loud moments of guys‘ man-o-festing’ to live their best life. Another fabulous addition to Erin Mallon’s repertoire.
(audiobook) The author has a talent for imagining unique situations and writing witty and funny dialogues, and when she casts the perfect narrator for each character on top of that, the result is this book, a collection of short plays that explore relationships between men.
The narrators, in duet style, connect on another level to bring life to characters we barely glanced at–as soon as we start to understand who they are, the play ends. Between laughs, they pull on our heartstrings with some bittersweet lines performed with deeply felt emotions. Perfection!
The Bromantic Comedies are six short ten minute plays for the fellas! Erin has written another fun, witty, and sincere group of audio plays! Each play presents a different real life situation that many men and women can relate to in their own lives. Erin makes light and has tons of fun with these various situations, but then brings us back (in some cases) to a bittersweet reality.
The entire cast was phenomenal. Getting to hear all of these guys perform comedy was refreshing and showed how versatile and talented they truly are. These guys were all in! I also loved the additional sound effects added to enhance the plays! Some of my favorites are Invasion at Man Camp and Baby Fight Club. In Invasion at Man Camp, you Joe Arden and Jason Clarke portray two men, one being a life coach, and the other being a client. Things start out light and fun, but then this play takes an interesting twist, that is not to be missed! Baby Fight Club is a hilarious outlook on the male's perspective of what is the connection of what is really going on between a new mom and baby! Teddy Hamilton and Shane East will have you laughing a LOT in this one!
The Bromantic Comedies put the biggest smile on my face! Be prepared to giggle and for your heartstrings to be pulled just a little bit in the best ways! I’m looking forward to much, much more from Erin Mallon!
So I’ve come to be a huge fan of Erin Mallon’s writing. Ever since Flirtasaurus last year, I’ve been grabbing at any and everything that she writes. But let me tell you, this was way crazy, so much different in a way from what I expected! It was craziness! It was a very short listen, so even though I got it later than planned, I was able to get it listened to by the time I’d planned to post this. Let me give you a short little review of each of the stories.
The first story, Invasion at Man Camp, was hilarious, but so so weird. Joe Arden was perfect in his role, I loved how annoyingly funny his characters seemed to be in this. It took place on a paintball field and the interaction between the two characters was so funny. There were some hilarious one-liners and terms introduced, such as savior stick.
The second story was the point of view from a cat and a fish, called Domesticated. The cat was very negative, having been neutered after slipping out for a little rendezvous with a non fancy female cat. And he was trying to tell the new totally upbeat goldfish about how he shouldn’t be trying so hard to please their owner, because he wouldn’t be able to do it.
The third story, Baby Fight Club. Wow! It was shocking the ideas that were thrown out by Teddy Hamilton’s character. But then, Shane East, so funny how he got swept up into it.
Next was Check-Out, set in a drugstore, and it had some really good kind of philosophical takes on people at a drugstore. But wow were the characters kind of creepy.
The 5th story, Good Working With Hands, reminded me so much of people that I’ve talked to where you can’t get anything talked about that you want to talk about because they totally turn it all around and back to being about themselves.
The final story was Thick Gnat Hands. And what the title comes from is so funny! It is something that I didn’t see coming, but when it did, I laughed so hard! Because I could totally see people coming in and asking for that at the bookstore where I worked. It was set with two men getting dialysis. The narrators were Shane East and Joe Arden. Again, Joe Arden’s character was just hilarious.
After that we had some bloopers which were definitely fun to hear as well!
This was totally a lot of manly bro type of stuff. Hilarious. All I can say is that Erin Mallon’s writing totally cracks me up and I look forward to listening or reading more from her in the future.
Oh my word, these audio plays are amazingly fun and funny but also witty but oddly they makes you think deeper thoughts too. It really is interested.
Each one of the stories is interesting in their own way.
I enjoyed them all in their own way but I loved Domesticated, Baby Fight Club the absolute most they made me laugh to the point of tears.
The ones that made me think the most were Invasion at Man Camp, Good Working with Hands and Check Out. Though there were funny points these also made me think.
And Tick gnat Hands gave me all the feels seriously. I love that Erin has opened up my mind to a new way of listening to stories. Posable real life situation yes but giving you a different perspective, adding humor because that is real life or it has been in my real life serious situations, but it isn’t really real until you feel all the emotions and humor is part of it.
The bloopers are fantastic thank you for including them!
All the narrators are fantastic they are all perfect for their parts, I was blown away.
What I'm discovering about each new Erin Mallon play is the depth of character and issues she brings to each play, making me want to go back to revisit previous works to see what I missed. The Bromantic Comedies is no different as I have listened to this set of plays now 3 times before writing this review. I just knew there was more to be knowledge to be gathered from the voices which Erin is giving us all a schooling.
The best correlation I can find to the mastery from Erin's plays is Shel Silverstein poems. A first pass you get the humor and laugh out loud moment that hits your middle school level comedy desires (Thick Legs in Baby Fight Club), but with each pass you pick up the deeper meanings. For example, the meanings of evil animal breeders, or the poignant turn of events in Thicke Gnat Hands.
To reach this complexity of play can only be done when taking brilliant words matched with phenomenal performers. The men who bring the lines to life are some of the best in their trade & that clearly shows here. Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Lance Greenfield, Teddy Hamilton, PJ Ochlan and & BRILLIANT Shane East are all remarkable in the various pairings. Difficult to call out one voice over the others in their exceptional work - all are gold on timing, emotion, and playfulness against the other’s lines.
The Bromantic Comedies is a gold standard for what thought provoking plays can bring to our lives. Everything from laughter running down your legs to sobbing a river of tears. Erin Mallon and crew hit this out of the park, even though it may not be for the faint of heart.
What can I say besides I think I fall in love with Erin Mallon as an author a little bit more every time she releases something new? Her plays are full of wit, a bit of snark, a lot of humor, and they are so unique.
This collection of 6 short plays, ranging from about 10-20 minutes each, is such a delight, especially if you have a bit of a subversive sense of humor. Starting from the first few lines of Invasion at Man Camp, through the last lines of Thick Gnat Hands, you'll be listening and wondering "where on earth is this going?" and laughing the entire time. The plays are full of lines that will have you questioning your hearing, with characters that are hoping to save the world with their penis or giving another man advice on diva cups for feminine hygiene.
The narration of the plays in the audio version is simply amazing, and it's a collection of stand-out narrators form start to finish. Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Lance Greenfield, Teddy Hamilton and PJ Ochlan deliver such entertaining and high-energy performances that you will find yourself listening multiple times just to get some extra giggles, with Erin Mallon bringing the stage direction to live for added theatrics.
My favorite of the six has to be Domesticated, the tale of Toby, a long-haired Persian cat, and Bubble Eye, an exotic goldfish, as they share existential musings. It takes a bit of a surprising turn, and has you laughing so much that you just can't stop.
A quick read or listen, but one that will always put a smile on your face and make you laugh. I have a feeling I'll be coming back to listen to this often when I need a smile.
These stories are fantastic. Every time I am reading/listening to a book/play by Erin Mallon I am falling more in love with her writing. Erin certainly got us through all the emotions with those 6 short plays. They seriously had me snort-laugh at one moment and getting choked up with emotions the other.
Erin is a genius for putting all these stories into plays. Some of these topics are not likely an open discussion point, especially for men but all of them make you think and there certainly is a deeper meaning to each story with a comedic twist.
These plays are narrated by some of the best male voices out there. Shane East, Jason Clarke, Teddy Hamilton, Joe Arden, Lance Greenfield & PJ Ochlan were absolutely outstanding. They certainly got the best out of these stories with these brilliant performances. Their love for the trade really shows as they really got into character and gave us the perfect entertainment.
I mean I enjoyed all of these stories so much but I seriously could not keep a dry “laughing” eye when I listened to #BabyFightClub . Shane and Teddy were just so fun to listen to as Baby Daddy´s and I do believe a lot of men out there have those exact thoughts.
Erin Mallon is such an amazing playwright. I love her plays. They always bring more than you expect. Take these six short plays for example. You expect them to be funny and entertaining, and make no mistake, they are. But they are also thought-provoking, and at times, emotional.
We tend to have such singular views on what masculinity is and these plays give us chance to not only view it differently but actually think about how we view it and why. And how we can view it differently.
Performed by Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, PJ Ochlan, Lance Greenfield, Shane East, and Teddy Hamilton. These guys all bring something unique to the stories they are performing and these plays give them a chance to showcase skills we very rarely see from them on their romance narration. I laughed. I cried. I sat and thought about things. I jumped in a chat with my best girlfriends to discuss. Absolutely brilliant.
How did such short plays give me so many feels? Wow. This set of shorts was funny, sad, thought provoking and just overall amazing. I was left wanting to know more about these characters. I want to see their next move. All six narrators were amazing. They all played two very different characters and they did then flawlessly. I am a huge fan of all these men, but I have to single out Lance Greenfield for my MVP. He blew me away. Erin Mallon has one again delivered fantastic material and gave it to the perfect cast to perform. So good.
I absolutely loved this group of 6 audio plays. My favorites are Domesticated and Baby Fight Club. That might change when I relisten to this (over and over). This is a perfect length for a commute or any time. These 6 guys are so talented! Erin wrote such great stories that grabbed my attention. I laughed. I was hooked. The stories are short but are complete audio plays. I was a little shocked since Erin wrote some great, realistic dialog for the guys. So original and full of sass and heart. I'm curious to read this as a book.
I listened to the audiobook of this and it had me laughing so hard I think I cried at one point. It has some very short scenes but the cast of narrators and the crazy scenarios is exactly what I needed.
Okay we definitely need to talk about chapters DOMESTICATED and THICK GNAT HANDS but honestly I loved the whole thing from beginning to end! So so much fun! Thank you Erin for making us laugh during these weird times! Definitely needed that! 😃🙏🏻😍 Awesome performance by all the narrators!! 👏🏻👏🏻🤩🤩
If anyone's looking for me, I'm relistening to These Walls Can Talk now ❤️
I love Erin Mallon’s plays and this was no exception All the narrators did an amazing job and I had plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. My favorite of the bunch was BABY FIGHT CLUB and Teddy Hamilton’s performance in this one was the best for me too. Runner-up was DOMESTICATION. But in all honesty I liked all six plays a lot. It was a nice sidestep from my romance listening and (eye-ball) reading
First of all, I love supporting my favorite narrators as they do some writing as well as narrating. Bravo Erin Mallon! These short stories are both witty & funny. Hearing the mans perspective on these topics is pure gold! And let’s not forget about the amazing narrators! Excellent performance by all.
Thank you to Erin Mallon and Social Butterfly PR for sending me an advance copy of this audio to review!
These audio plays do live up to the title; in The Bromantic Comedies, listeners get guys hanging out, chatting, making fun of each other, or getting into some deep topics, and each chapter is both bromantic and comedic! In addition, it hits the “masculine” nail in the head. Lots of profanity, jokes about genitalia, and innuendos - exactly how I imagine entirely male conversations to go. The narrators are fantastic, pulling off funny and serious in varying stories. I think my favorite is Baby Fight Club. When they listed off the reasons for the fight club, I laughed out loud. The close examinations of baby motives from the perspective of a father - hilarious!
I have to admit, the format made this audio a little hard for me to track. Each chapter is an audio play, so it’s primarily dialogue and I found it hard to visualize what is going on in some of the stories. However, I did adjust after the first chapter or two and really relaxed into the narration.
With these plays, I love how things switch up and get explained in closer detail with a bit of a message just when things are seeming a bit ridiculous. While some of the chapters are enjoyable short stories, I really enjoy how some of them dig deep into masculinity and masculine expectations; there’s more going on here than just fun stories. These audio plays range from strange to informative to introspective and they’re funny all throughout!
Oh Erin Mallon, you gave me the best way to put a smile on my face. THE BROMANTIC COMEDIES consists of six audio tales designed to give you some fun. The audio plays were only enhanced by some exceptionally talented narrators, joe Arden, Shane East, Jason Clarke, Lance Greenfield, PJ Ochlan and Teddy Hamilton.
The pairing of these amazing narrators and the characters they play was sheer perfection. The wit, sarcasm, comedic timing of Ms Mallon's writing and the way in which the narrators played off one another made it an audio I didn't want to stop. These narrators certainly knew how to bring Ms Mallon's characters to life.
Of course I did have my favourites, Thick Gnat Hands - Shane East and Joe Arden were brilliant, Domesticated - Lance Greenfield and PJ Ochlan were hilarious, who would have thought a cat and a fish could have such an entertaining conversation, and finally Invasion At Man Camp - Joe Arden and Jason Clarke were superb.
This certainly put a different spin on how conversations between men are viewed. The bromance between each pairing and in each tale was totally unforgettable. The Bloopers - thank you so much for including those, it's always fun to see that narrators don't always get everything right on the first go.
I have been staring at my screen for a good 10 minutes trying to figure out how to review the perfection that is The Bromantic Comedies. We can start with the obvious, It's funny. Like really funny, like snort laughing while I drove down the 101 funny. Seriously if I lived in a less self absorbed city, I would be worried that people on the freeway were judging me. It is also expertly cast and narrated. Erin Mallon paired her actors perfectly for these duet vignettes, they play off each other so well and even though you hear from them more than once their performances are beautifully distinct. Each play not only brought out the funny but also emotion and heart. Which I would have thought would have been hard to do in 10 minute plays, but one should never underestimate the talent of Erin Mallon. She wrote such interesting and thought provoking stories that didn't quite follow the path you thought you were on, but you know what they say about the road less traveled. I started to list my favorites but I can't decide!! They are all so good, and I will definitely be relistening to these audio plays and sharing them with my Husband and friends, because they are all too good.
I received an advanced listening copy of The Bromantic Comedies and voluntarily give my honest review.
Erin Mallon does it again! She has turned me into a huge fan of Audio Plays! This Audio Play has 6 short 10 minute stories and they are all so unique, funny and so witty. Each Play is completely different and each one has it's own eye opening meaning layered underneath all the comedy and outrageousness. I enjoyed them all so much but I have to say Domesticated was probably my favorite because I laughed so much but when it was over I felt like I got it completely. I will be listening to this Audio Play over and Over again for sure.
Now let's discuss this incredible cast of narrators!!! Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Lance Greenfield, Teddy Hamilton, PJ Ochlan. 6 amazing narrators mixed and matched so well and they ALL do an awesome job at playing off each other. I loved all of them in this work but I also watched a Live chat with Erin Mallon and each of these narrators on Instagram (@mallonerin) and I loved this even more once I heard these guys talk about the plays they narrators and what they thought of the characters and the meaning of each play. So much fun!!!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this! If you are any bit of an audio fan or if you just like to have laugh. I was laughing from beginning to end. Erin Mallon has this exceptional ability to make you laugh but also gives such a hear to it. Even in these ten minute plays she still made you feel it. All of the narrators were incredible in this. Every single one of them. Jason is always a win no matter what! He can do anything! Joe is given 2 characters that are perfection for him and he does them so good. All I'm saying is "Savior Stick!" Shane you play the new dad so good, I loved you so much in that one! You had me cracking up! I am putting PJ and Lance for last because to me they were the show stealers. PJ has become someone I just adore and that is literally all because of Erin Mallon. He plays every role so perfectly. The devious cat and the uncomfortable guy in the grocery store. I want to hug both of them. Lance I love you already. But you as that fish. Was the best thing in this entire thing. You were unlike anything I've heard you and played it so well even to the end. I hope to get to hear you in more comedic performances. Do yourself a favor and listen to this ASAP!!!
I absolutely love everything Erin Mallon writes or narrates. She’s written several audio plays and this one does not disappoint. I would love to spend a day or two with her when all the creativeness is flowing to see how she puts all of these hilarious ideas together.
The Bromantic Comedies has six plays with six different male narrators sprinkled throughout. Joe Arden, Shane East, Jason Clarke, Teddy Hamilton, Lance Greenfield and PJ Ochlan. While all these guys are known in the Romance novel world, it was great hearing them use their comedic skills. Together, all the plays were roughly an hour and half. I laughed so hard throughout the whole thing. I had to pause a couple times to wipe the tears from my eyes. Each play has such a different and unique take on things. From paintballing to a neutered cat to babies to the feminine hygiene aisle.
And the two minutes of bloopers at the end? You can tell how much fun the six guys had recording this. This has just been released and I can’t wait for the next genius thing that she releases.
The Bromantic Comedies Six Short Audio Plays for Fellas By: Erin Mallon Narrated by: Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Lance Greenfield, Teddy Hamilton, PJ Ochlan
I love to laugh, and Erin Mallon had me in stitches for the entire length of The Bromantic Comedies! Each short play featuring men in the most unsuspecting of situations leading to conversations that only they could have. I loved every one, from Check Out to Good Working With his Hands, but for me the funniest was Baby Fight Club. Shane East and Teddy Hamilton created their characters so over the top, it just tickled my funny bone! Kudos for all the narrators with Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Lance Greenfield and PJ Ochlan for using their comedic timing and incredible voices to bring this gem to life. Erin Mallon has captured the inner voice of the crazy thinking of men. And I absolutely loved the background baby!
Make sure you grab this quick listen. It will brighten up any day and make you think back and just randomly laugh out loud!
I loved these absolutely hilarious, and heartfelt audioplays! This is a collection of six short plays that have believable, and memorable male characters who are tackling real life matters with humor, and heart. No matter who you are, you will recognize one or more of these men who want to share their knowledge, emotional experiences, maybe give you a nickname, or even try to bust your ba11s. Each story captured my imagination, made me laugh out loud, but also care about what they are going through. Mallon revealed these men in an honest, and entertaing way that was absolutely irresistible. She also assembled the stellar cast of Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Lance Greenfield, Teddy Hamilton, and PJ Ochlan who gave wonderfully bold performances of these hilariously captivating characters! Mallon and her cast have perfected the art of combining humor, witty dialog, and heartfelt emotion that will make you want to listen again and again!
Erin Mallon is really a comedic genius. I know, I have said this before, but she is. I have listened to several of her Audio Plays at this point and I am never disappointed.
From the feminine isle at the drugstore (OMG, Jason Clarke in this one though) to the paintball battleground these outrageously funny stories will have you laughing your butt off from start to finish.
The narration is what makes it though, seriously! All her Audio Plays have a full cast with some of your favorite narrators but this one might have had the best cast yet. Six short plays for fellas, by fellas. Seriously, it was gold! With Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East and more you will be entranced by the stories they tell as well as the way they tell them.
After these plays, I am an even bigger fan of Erin Mallon. She is an incredible narrator, we all know this, but her writing is just as good. Laugh it up and go listen to this incredibly wonderful tale of men who deserve their own stories as well.
Wow these audio plays were fantastic! She had the best of the best narrators narrating her six short plays.
Each play was so unique. Some had me rolling on the ground with laughter, and others actually brought a tear or two to my eyes.
These short plays give you a little inside in what can go inside a man's mind, and I was surprised that even though men always try to be "men" they really do have deep feelings.
The stories got me thinking about life how you choose what to make of what life throw at you. You can either make the best of it and find the positive or give up and let it take over and give up. I loved the way she wrote these plays which were really comedies, yet though really funny they do touch the heart.
I have been a huge fan of Erin's narration, but her writing is just as brilliant!
Great narrators, disappointing stories that were more stupid than funny. I kept listening in the hopes that the short audio plays/stories would improve, but they didn't. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be "Good with Hands" because Teddy is such a talented actor... but all of these short plays were unmemorable and silly. Erin's narration of stage directions was also kind of distracting, something I also noted with These Walls Can Talk, which I liked much more.
If I didn't have such respect for this group of narrators, I probably would've stopped listening and returned the audiobook.
Play 1 was alright didn’t love it or hate it. There were some funny lines done by Joe Arden though
Play two was Lance Greenfield as a fish and PJ Ochlan as a cat. This one was freaking hilarious to me!! I busted a gut so hard when PJ broke into a cat in heat. My husband looked at me like I had three heads explaining it to him.
Play three I skipped as it just irked me. I know it was supposed to all be poking fun at parenthood but I just didn’t like it so I skipped most of it.
I don’t recall feelings on check out
Good Working With Hands was a little odd but fine
Thick Gnat Hands—meh. It was Joe and Shane but not even that saved it.
The bloopers were the best other than the cat in heat part.
This is a collection of 6 short funny plays written by the super talented Erin Mallon. Erin started off in the narrator booth and has released a number of plays that have been devoured by the romance community.
This collection includes a hilarious man coaching session at man camp. A conversation between a cat and a fish about procreation. Baby Fight Club! A guy buying tampons for his wife. A couple of guys chatting about puppets and another couple of guys on dialysis talking life.
This merry band of narrators smash these plays out of the park. The sound engineering on them is phenomenal giving you a high quality audio experience all around. And I can’t forget to mention the bloopers because everyone loves to hear them. Hear the hilarity when these guys just can’t get their words out!
I had the opportunity to both read and listen to The Bromantic Comedies: Six Short Audio Plays for Fellas by Erin Mallon and I absolutely loved it. I had such a good time reading/listening and there is really no better compliment. The short stories were fun and entertaining and the audio was amazing with some of my top favorite narrators. Joe Arden, Jason Clarke, Shane East, Lance Greenfield, Teddy Hamilton and PJ Ochlan truly brought each of the stories to life.
Erin Mallon was already a top narrator for me but has also quickly become a favorite writer as well. I had so much fun listening to this audio and highly recommend it.
