Unofficial Legends of The Secret World #3
Dead in the Water: An Unofficial Legend of The Secret World
When Blodwedd Mallory returns to her old stomping grounds to deal with the supernatural menace threatening Solomon Island, she expects to spend her time killing zombies and helping the survivors in Kingsmouth. But, will her attempts to investigate the mysterious fog and the invading draug horde be thwarted by her tardy Templar partner, a dangerous contagion, and an old flame, Dragon agent Renee “Hadad” Laveau?
Independence Day. A time for fireworks and family. A celebration of the indomitable spirit of the men and women who fought for freedom to build their own nation. Nearly 400 years to build its foundations since settlers first landed on Plymouth Rock have made America strong. Patriots and soldiers stand ready to rebuff invaders from its shores. But this invasion is different. You can’t fight what won’t die. You can’t kill what’s already dead. Long before the immigrants, Vikings landed on these shores. And they brought with them ships and strong men to explore the boundaries of this new coastline, far to the west of their homelands. They brought their traditions and stories to sustain them on the journey. Some didn’t make it back. The ocean is full of the remains of those brave explorers, those wooden longboats. And other, darker things. The Viking stories tell what happens to the angry dead lost at sea. So do the seagulls and the tide—if you know how to listen. The dead are coming back to Solomon Island. I am about to learn the old stories firsthand.

Blodwedd Mallory
8 books18 followersBlodwedd Mallory is the Secret World alter ego of Amber McKee, a Utah-based writer, editor, and Jill-of-all-trades.
Over the course of her career, she's been a newspaper reporter, movie reviewer, bartender, tarot reader, magazine editor, advocacy trainer, instructional designer, service delivery manager, and more. Now, she realizes what she probably should have been all along was a video game developer. She assuages that pain by creating paranormal fantasy fiction books based on her in-game experiences of an urban fantasy/horror video game. Go figure.
She lives with her hubby and two rescue pups in a formerly haunted house.

In the third novel of the series, Mallory returns to Solomon Island to try and resolve the zombie situation which has lingered from the first book. She’s a full Templar now and acts with a bit more confidence than she did in the previous two stories as she and a growing cast of secret-society types investigate the cause of the zombie infestation and discover connections to a much larger problem.
Like the other books in the series, this one is fast moving and fun, but there were a couple of minor points that didn’t make a lot of sense to me. For example, the Templars sent Mallory into action without any type of briefing on the monster they already knew to be there—the zombies. While it’s been made quite clear that the resources of the Templars are overstretched, is it really plausible that Mallory’s superiors would not provide her with such basic information as zombies are attracted to loud noises? I think the problem comes from the game roots of the series. Some of the dialogue comes across as an NPC giving a mission to a player. The lack of training has the same feel to it.
These small problems aside, this is a worthy sequel to the first two novels and it builds to an intensely exciting, action-packed conclusion. I look forward to reading the next one.

Woot! Another thrilling Unofficial Legend of the Secret World from Blodwedd Mallory! (Shhh! I heard she's even working on the next one.) Having been recently initiated into the Templar faction herself, we find Wedd and her friends back in America on Solomon Island, each with their own faction-assigned missions to uncover the nature and cause of the local zombie infestation. However, when they begin asking around Kingsmouth Town, the surviving townsfolk lead Wedd's group to the sea. There, they uncover the source of the problem, but not without resistance from the monsters that dwell within the cold, dark waters of the North Atlantic. This is Lovecraft meets Romero, as told through the experiences of a young woman confronted by the "end of the world."
If you read and enjoyed the first two books in the Unofficial Legends series, you will once again be impressed and entertained by Blodwedd's rich and accurate (for those that also play the game) depictions of the Secret World, and her believable and endearing character development. Personally, I closely identify with one of those characters (Shhh!), and I eagerly wait for each book to see how things work out. Keep 'em coming, Wedd!

The third installment of Blodwedd "Wedd" Mallory's adventures as a Templar and one of Gaia's Bees brings us back to where we started: the quaint little tourist destination off the coast of Maine called Solomon Island. This time, Wedd ventures into the town of Kingsmouth with friends new and old to figure out the source of the fog and the deaths and subsequent reanimation of most of the island's citizens.
Wedd has really found her voice in this book, and is starting to learn what exactly it means to be a warrior in her new world. The characters each have their own personality and charm, the setting is compelling, and the story intriguing even if you're familiar with the various plot-lines of The Secret World. Mallory brings the story of the game into a new medium with a deft hand and a great sense of humor. Definitely recommend.

Blodwedd Mallory’s adventures do not disappoint! There is heart pounding excitement on every page. Although I am not a participant in playing the game, “Legend of the Secret World”, it matters not. Through the authors telling, I am immersed into a vivid recreation of Blod’s world. The author’s ability to craft a wonderfully detailed and terrifying universe where Blodwedd’s quests lead her and her contemporaries into epic battles, mayhem and...FUN! I look forward to the next ”Legend!”

Thank God the Draugr are back. Wait, what? Just kidding those things are the worst. Wedd gets a chance to prove herself on her first assignment as a new Templar agent. Kingsmouth is besieged by zombies and dead things crawling out of the sea. This too bad, because otherwise Kingsmouth is a real fun place to vacation. Although, if Norma invites you over for a BBQ - I'd pass.
The excitement and action ramp up faster and more intense than in London Underground: An Unofficial Legend of The Secret World. As Wedd investigates the zombie problem in Kingsmouth, she makes new friends, new fashion faux pas, and discovers something even worse than the zombies and draug.

I picked up Dead in the Water without knowing anything about the story or having read the previous books in the series. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to learn about the characters and the world they inhabit. The characters are smart and sassy, and I was engaged throughout. In fact, I couldn't put the book down. I am looking forward to going back and reading the first 2 books to learn more about Wedd and Gypcie and their connection. And I am excited to see where their story goes next.

Dead in the Water will take you back to where it all started. A familiar setting but new problems await Blodwedd in this latest installment. I've loved watching Wedd grow and mature from soon-to-be graduate to now a Templar. This latest heart-pounding adventure does not disappoint, and draws you further into Wedd's world where monsters and magic are all too real. A must read for those who love the paranormal and legends of old.

The author demonstrates great skill and imagination in describing the unimagineable. Exciting plot and interesting characters make you anxious to read the next book in the series.
