David Corcoran is dead. Large sums of cash, gone. Coincidence, or was it murder?
Did he die of natural causes, or was he murdered? His daughter seems to think there is more to his sudden death at the sleepy Blackthorne Lakes Retirement Village than a case of another day, another resident meets their maker.
Enter Peddyr and Connie Quirk, newly formed PI husband-and-wife team, to ‘act’ as residents to see if they can sniff out the truth. Can they pull it off? Will Connie convince the Blackthorne golfing set that she’s a real resident?
Is there more to this story than simply old man dies happy?
Alison Morgan lives in Bedfordshire where she was born and brought up. She worked in the county for nearly thirty years for the NHS mostly at the front line of mental health services.
Alison retired earlier than anticipated because of an unexpected health challenge which redirected her to write in order to save her own sanity. Her crime thrillers pull on many years of experience within psychiatry.
Other than that: family, friends, rugby, live music, real cider, lively conversation, laughter and more recently motorbikes (mid-life crisis).
This novella is the first of the Quirk files & introduces Private Investigators Peddyr & Connie Quirk.
I needed this book as some light relief from my normal blood & gore - it certainly delivers. Well written with humour & a good plot, the story is set in a retirement complex where four thefts have been reported to the management & police. The Quirks are brought in to solve these thefts but they discover much more.
A quick read in preparation for the first book in the series, Over Her Dead Body, which has just been released. Recommended.
A wonderful short cozy crime to bring a smile. Set in a retirement complex this tells the story of initially missing money but then far, far more. There are some wonderful characters and secrets, lies and much more. An easy read over a coffee or two.
It was great to read this and get a short introduction to Connie and Peddyr Quirk and how they started Quirk Introductions and their first case. Thoroughly enjoyed it. An unusual case that had them perplexed initially. 4 households had had money stolen from their houses in a retirement complex. Where will the case lead them.
A good old fashioned who done it. This novella introduces a new husband and wife duo who investigate the apparent theft of cash in a very upmarket retirement complex. A great introduction with plenty of humour, I hope this becomes a series.
