Zera Manages to find her way to the desert city of Umbrial. First to get to the city she must first face her Nemesis along with countless bandits. Second she must prove her chosen Princess's worth by competing in the grand tournament. Third she must survive. But not everything is clear cut and easy. There is betrayal and worse yet to come. Monsters of Legend stand in the way of Zera and her freedom.
YASSSS! A kickarse, intelligent and compassionate LESBIAN main character in LitRPG! I'm so happy I could cry. Conlon confirms this for me when Zera has a flashback about telling her mother who was so wonderful and accepting. Then to her idiot dad who I seriously want to punch for his reaction.
On another note, I loved reading this book. I flew through it 'cause I got so into the story. Zera's progression and the relationships she makes with those she encounters are bittersweet. The action is exciting and I can't wait to read the next book.
This was sloppy. Text-to-speech will fail you. Also, proofreading. Too many errors to rate this highly. Past, present, and future tense rarely belong in the same sentence.
I *may* read the next book when it is released. The quality suffered here, but some of the original themes remained (practice improves skill, endurance, will to succeed).
<*Spoiler*> * * * * * * * The sex part: poorly handled, and more of a distraction than anything else. There was *zero* foreshadowing of her parent’s reaction. It was well written when it came out, but without even a hint prior, it felt like the narrative was being manipulated rather than a natural flow. Adding a moment of emotional pain when thinking about parents to the previous novel would have laid missing groundwork.
Another great story that goes above and beyond the level of what is expected and completely wraps you in a fully detailed world that leaves you constantly wanting more. Everything from the world itself to the plot made me want to read more.
