I am a list-gal. If it’s not on the list, it likely never gets done! Teaching kids the importance of organization and time management (age-appropriate) is one of the best ways to prepare them for school, then high-school, and yes, even adulthood! It’s a fundamental life-skill, and with the hilarious illustration of Riley Madison’s lack of routine, Riley Madison Discovers the Superpower of a List is a fun way to introduce the life-changing concept of a list.

This short chapter book is geared for early readers (I’d say 6-10), though it could be just as fun to read aloud. The chapters are quick, easy to read, and each one holds an exciting and funny new reason on why Riley Madison needs a list. Many kids, especially those that may suffer from ADHD and ADD may relate to Riley as she constantly finds herself distracted from her tasks. She doesn’t mean to be disobedient, she just gets distracted and forgets what she is doing (I think we all can relate)! Introducing a structure for Riley in the form of a list helped to keep her focused and made her feel accomplished with each check mark!

Overall, I think Riley Madison Discovers the Superpower of a List is a great book for elementary teachers to keep on hand, parents, and perhaps even grandparents! It’s a fun book to read with a valuable life skill included. I give it 5 out of 5 stars!

Fun Read for Kids

Poor Riley Madison just can’t get it together until she learns how to make a list. Riley’s mind is in constant action and she finds it difficult to do anything in a timely manner. The list helps her to focus on what she needs to get done to keep her life in order. Children reading this book might find themselves in the same position and use Riley’s solution to help them with their problem.

Each Chapter funnier than the last

Riley Madison is a super energetic kid. She needs to turn her super power on and makes notes to remember all things things she needs to do in order to be prepared for the day. Each chapter is funnier than the last. Kids will have so much fun with this one.

Riley Madison is in elementary school and she has a lot on her mind. So much, in fact, that she often loses track of what she needs to do and falls behind in what is expected of her. Waking up early for her first day of a new school year is not easy, and it is made even harder by the fact that she is not prepared for everything she must accomplish before the bus arrives. A stressful morning leads to a breakthrough in her new classroom that inspires a lifestyle adjustment that benefits everyone.

Based on a true story, Riley Madison’s experiences are familiar to all kinds of kids. Though the real Riley Madison has ADHD, this is never overtly referenced in the book; instead, the narrator focuses on Riley Madison’s unique and endearing personality and how lists help her focus and overcome the daily challenges that are holding her back.

Short chapters and simple sentence structure make this book well suited to newly independent readers whether reading alone or with an older caregiver. Occasional illustrations break up the text and provide additional support for reading comprehension. Humorous situations leave readers both giggling and cringing as Riley Madison attempts to navigate her unpreparedness as best she can.

Thanks to the help of supportive friends and family, Riley Madison becomes empowered to focus on the things she needs to get done every day. Young readers with a tendency toward distraction will love the positive and encouraging spin this story places on this recognizable trait.

A spunky and lively girl's busy mind keep humor high in these pages, while bringing across an important message.

Summer break has ended, and it's time for Riley to head back to school, but with her busy (and easily distracted) mind, she barely is able to get dressed and make it to the school bus in time. Her best friend is waiting for her, and despite worries, Riley is excited to start a new year with her. But Riley's inability to remain focused causes one silly situation after the other until someone makes a useful suggestion to help her out.

Although it's not mentioned, it doesn't take much to realize that Riley is dealing with an attention disorder. Her mind is everywhere, and the author does a wonderful job at letting Riley's thoughts ramble in all possible directions without every allowing boredom to sneak in. Riley is sweet and likeable, and super cheerful...a girl easy to like. This endearing nature paves the path to make her wandering thoughts intriguing although it's clear they are a little all over the place.

Humor dribbles nicely into the well paced read, making it an easy to read chapter book. The font is slightly on the larger size, which will help beginning readers, and there are cute illustrations sprinkled in as an extra treat. Readers, who have a fairly good grip on their words, will enjoy this one and find Riley fun to follow as she learns that lists might just be what she needs to make sure she gets those things done, which need doing. I'm giving this one 3.5 stars and rounding up. I received a complimentary copy from the author.
