Art for Rollins: The Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art Volume II

Rate this book
Art for Rollins, Volume II features full color images and texts documenting the growth of the Alfond Collection of Contemporary Art, a collection conceived by Barbara and Ted Alfond as a gift to their alma mater Rollins College. Imagined to support a liberal arts education, a visual syllabus of sorts, the collection stems from a desire to afford students the benefit of interdisciplinary learning. Part of the permanent collection of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum at Rollins, the works in the Alfond Collection are displayed at The Alfond Inn as well as at the Cornell Fine Arts Museum, both located on the Rollins College campus. New acquisitions by 47 artists are presented in Art for Rollins, Volume II. This includes works of art by María Magdalena Campos-Pons, Rosemarie Castoro, Melvin Edwards, Charline von Heyl, David Hockney, William Kentridge, Trevor Paglen, Thomas Scheibitz, Hank Willis Thomas, Kara Walker, Carrie Mae Weems, and Jack Whitten, among others. Art for Rollins, Volume II, includes a foreword by Malcolm Rogers, Ann and Graham Gund Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; an introductory essay by independent curator Abigail Ross Goodman; an essay by Cornell Fine Arts Museum curator Amy Galpin on newly acquired works by Latin American artists; and a dialogue between Barbara Alfond and Ena Heller, Bruce A. Beal Director of the Cornell Fine Arts Museum.
