Breanna is unexpectedly pregnant. Her husband is not happy about it but he's a wildfire firefighter and gets called out to a terrible fire before they can hash things out. Unfortunately, he never comes home. Breanna is wracked with guilt and sadness. Her husband's partner, Jake Childress, is badly burned and injured in that fire plus he saw Breanna's husband die. As Breanna visits Jake in the hospital while he's recuperating, they form a close bond. Jake is even with her when she finally has her baby! You better get your tissues out for this one because it's very emotional! I loved Jake especially and connected with him right away. I liked Breanna for the most part but she did have a few instances where I felt she "pulled Jake's chain" at times and that frustrated me. She'd go forward and then all of the sudden go about face! At least Jake was patient!

Does time heal all wounds?

Is closure possible? Or will the guilt continue to cause doubts?
Breanna and Jake need each other for support and healing, but the sparks between them only intensify.
Having read Molly's book (which crosses over with the beginning of this book) I had to do a double take as the deja vu hit me, before I realised it was the same scene but from Breanna's point of view rather than Molly's! A sweet but heart wrenching book in the Disaster City series, I read this on Kindle Unlimited.

OH MY GOD, I freaking loved this book. Breanna suffered a tremendous loss and she had another human being to think about in the middle of it, that's not an easy thing to do. Jake was an amazing guy, he was really there for her, no matter what. She was there for him too, she saw him as a whole, a beautiful person inside and out. I liked how Jake let her do things at her own pace, that was so important. Their love story may not have been conventional but who cares about that? The heart wants what it wants, they fitted together beautifully

It's a good story, but it didn't fit the other Disaster City books I've read. This one has no faith element to the story, unless you count the mention of karma in the blurb. Plus, the Jake doesn't rescue the Breanna from danger in a suspenseful action scene.

They save each other. They are both traumatized by the loss of his partner/her husband. They help each other heal by becoming friends. Unlike their other friends, they aren't afraid to mention Matt and don't feel awkward when grief hits. Their romance grew slowly over time, feeling natural.

Fire

Adapting and accepting the death of a spouse, be it a long process or sudden, is real. Circumstances vary in how the process is achieved. This story of acceptance and learning to love again is an excellent example. For those that have lived a life after sudden death of a spouse, your tears may fall. For those that live a life with public servant spouses your fears are remembered. An excellent book.

The Widow Rescue

This book was about a young woman whose husband was a firefighter and was unhappy when she told him they were expecting a child. He said it was not the right time as they had not done everything that they needed to do before having children. Then he dies in a forest fire and she has a bab6 and learns to love again. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill

Breanna and her fireman husband, Matt, are in the middle of a row about her unplanned pregnancy, when he's called in. She arrives at the hospital and in trying to get away from all the messages of condolence hides in the room of his partner, Jake. She's about to have a go at him for not having Matt's back when she sees that he's blaming himself.
When he's out of hospital they still keep in touch and their feelings grow.

A great read about grief and overcoming guilt.

The Widow Rescue

Breanna and Jake have a heartwarming story. Breanna and her husband have an argument over her pregnancy right before he leaves never to return. Jake was severely injured in the fire that took her husbands life. They find comfort in each other’s company. Can Breanna let her fears go and learn to love another?

Guilt over being left following the death of Breanna’s husband is what draws her and Jake, her late husband’s partner together, but attraction pulls against that guilt. Ginny Sterling knows how to touch our hearts and minds in her stories. I hurt for both Breanna and Jake, but I’m cheering for them. I loved this story of overcoming the past.

If you short words that makes the story so much bigger

This is a very quick read and not many words at that. This author weeves to words very carefully to make a very compelling, Interesting and Interesting and heartwarming story. The characters are caring and walking a fine line. This story makes sense while still being a romance.

The Widow Rescue

It's a shame that Matt didn't realize what a treasure he had in Brianna! Yes, it was a shame about Matt's horrible death but the friendship that developed between Jake and her and the common bond they shared with the deep love between them was so precious! Also, the fact that Jake was by her side when she gave birth to little Mattie drew them even closer!

I admit that I have no kids, by choice, and our 2 dogs are our family. There was way too much gross baby stuff in this book to suit me and not enough about the dogs, but it may be fine for others. Therefore, I will give it 3 stars instead of lower.

Sad but great

I was in tears a few times but smiling at the end. This really touched me as there has been many firefighters in my family and have seen them go through a lot just as the characters did in this story. Great job of writing and a great story.

Great story

This story shows how a woman healed from her husband's death. Her 1st marriage was frustrating, and he'd said harsh words before leaving to fight a forest fire. Then he didn't come home; he was gone.
A story that demonstrates courage, patience & strength.
