Strategy is an interesting and complex part of the business. Orchestrating strategy as a team work is one of those difficult exercises that needs to take place. This book provides a flexible three-part formula to help you work with your organization’s executive team and shape a vital strategic planning program. Additionally there are all the frameworks and templates ready for use.

Highlights: How does company leadership propel an organization forward? Poore believes strategic planning is the key. A guiding vision for the company’s future that enhances employee purpose and loyalty at every level, these plans are useful both internally and externally for an organization. Poore’s three step approach (workshop, written plan, progress tracking) gives organizations a framework to take their business to the next level.
Other thoughts: If you are at the helm of an organization, or aspire to be, this book may help you see the value of Poore’s particular method of getting organized and having a plan. As for me, I don’t work in the kind of setting that would benefit from this. Even though I didn’t necessarily find it personally applicable, I think that it is a great guide if you are in an industry that is organized in this manner.

Strategic planning and strategy are buzz words in the business industry you hear all the time. And for every person you ask, you’ll get a different definition. In my experience it’s often vague, complex and so ‘high level’ it feels out of touch to those not involved in the direct process and even when I have been involved I was made to feel as though I should’ know’ already.
Carol Poore’s Strategic Impact was the first resource I found that explained the strategy and strategic planning in terms and stories I can comprehend and relate to. Her methodology provided EASY and very tangible steps to have confidence in taking on the strategic planning process regardless if your company chooses not to hire a consultant.
As an employee whose been an individual contributor, a manager and a leader, I am excited and feel empowered. It covers everything from getting buy-in from leaders, steps to create a strategic plan including considerations for your workshop and how to track and communicate your progress. Strategic Impact is not just a book but a TOOL and GUIDE to refer too again and again that covers every aspect of the strategic planning process.
