Julia Child is a stalwart in the world of French cuisine. If you have watched Julie and Julia, then you will know how food plays a pivotal role in everybody’s lives. The story follows the life of a young New Yorker named Julie, who is inspired by Julia and is keen on cooking all the recipes that are a part of the latter’s cookbook. Julia is known for her unabashed attitude and confidence which she presented her cooking show. She seemed unbothered by live lobsters clawing at her fingers and using the back of a knife to open champagne bottles. The movie received critical acclaim and is one of the best movies that focuses on food as the main subject. If you are feeling inspired to try out Julie dishes, then you have come to the right place. This book gives you 30 lip-smacking recipes featured in the film and some that have been inspired by Julia’s cooking. You will be raring to rush to the kitchen, pick up some onions and make a soup! Let’s start!
I looked forward to this with great anticipation of a fee little gems of cooking. While the essential French flavor has been retained, more or less, this ain't no cookbook Julia or Julie would bless. It started so well, so straightforward and then just went "pouf" for no reason I can see. Ramekins of no specified size. Mixing eggs into hot cream without tempering, unlaminated croissant dough, are just a few of the outright errors that plague what should be a sweet little book. What veggies are with the duck? Unsaid. Okay, I can live with that, but am I supposed to buy a second duck for the two cups of duck broth. Never have seen it on the shelves in Texas or California, just duck fat. How about the zest in the madelines, was it "forgotten?". I have seen clafouti made free form and that is the only way I've ever made it, but I was game. Wrong! It was totally different, a cake with a cakey texture. Hmm. Uh hmm. Uh uh.
I love creating new dinner and dessert recipes. I have a large Family and cook nearly everything from scratch. I am always on the lookout for new recipes to make for the Family especially when we get into a dinner rut(same thing over and over). I like to mix it up and it teaches the kids to try new things
The recipes seem like my mom’s. I used to tease her: “ so now what? Do I bake it, fry it, freeze it?” This book has a list of ingredients then very skimpy on details on the “hot to” which Julia was famous for.
