This book takes a very in-depth look at a difficult subject. It’s not a book you read quickly and casually, but one you take time to digest. It’s not a story. It reads more like a textbook and is full of information. The author does not set about stating only his own thoughts and opinions, but has used many other sources and deep Biblical study to express the truth of the matter. There is much explanation. Studies and examples on the topic of transgender identity and other expressions of gender dysphoria are shared.

The author clearly put much time, energy, effort, and thought into this book. I appreciated the way he translated Hebrew and Greek words to most closely express the original meanings of words we read in the Bible. I appreciated what I found to be a compassionate and non-judgmental attitude toward those suffering misconceptions of their gender, and also those learning to communicate with their family members or friends who have made non-conformist gender decisions. What I appreciate most is the authors desire to share God’s intent for humans. Many scripture verses are referenced and a sincere wish to help people know who they are in God’s view comes through.

This book brings much to light and has an extensive glossary and bibliography. It’s well worth the read. While this book is centered on transgender identity, some of the information can easily apply to dealing with other difficult relational issues as well. Overall this book gives much information and seeks to bring healing through understanding who God is and entering into a relationship with him.
However, one does not need to be a Christian to learn from and gain insight from this writing.
