A very enjoyable read. More of a 3.5 overall, but I don’t mind the round-up. The story of Delia and Mitch was a slow burn connection following a full, engaging novel.

I enjoyed the cast of characters a lot. It felt like each had their own spot in the story without just completing a checklist. Dwayne seemed a little out of place, but it didn’t sway me either way just based on him. Delia was really well-rounded even when sitting in her grief. I liked that she always revealed a new layer and was able to grow as a character throughout the story. Mitch was a great showcase of how to create a gentle, humble man too. I liked that he didn’t fit the stereotypes and troupes that a lot romances do. Teresa and Emily were both really fun characters. They added the sass and brashness needed when there is a lot of heaviness in the storyline. Rose was also a little piece of sunshine.

I liked the plot because the backstories were very clear and defined. It made it easy to follow the story and plot out generally where it would go. It didn’t feel completely predictable, just known.

Overall, it was a nice read. I enjoyed my time in their story and was satisfied with the ending. I wouldn’t stop or deter anyone from reading it, just not sure it would be the first recommendation I give for romance/slice of life.

Heartbreakingly poignant and powerful, A Broken Kind of Love is a fantastic, yet raw & realistic story of two people who end up saving each other--and giving themselves and each other, more of a purpose. Through tragedy and the aftermath of trauma, Mitch and Delia find a safe harbor in each other and learn to truly live again. The respect they show each other and other characters in the book who provide them with outside support is front and center and yet, you can always sense the undercurrent of chemistry, of possibility between them. It's the very definition of a slow burn, one of my favorite concepts in romance. While there may be no such thing as a happily ever after, Mitch and Delia show that happiness after tragedy is possible.

Ugh, THIS BOOK! 😭 This book was amazing. It tore at my soul and gave me all the feels! I cried. I laughed. I had to fan myself at the end when things heated up. 🀣 I swear my heart melted when I read β€œJessie isn’t gone from my heart, but now Mitch is there too. He’s holding the thread and patching it up. I picture him working on drywall with a spade in his hand and a bucket of spackle.” I mean...πŸ₯ΊπŸ₯Ί I am just so happy for the two of themβ€”Rose too! I’ve never rooted for two people like I rooted for Delia and Mitch! I don’t know two people more deserving of happiness! FIVE STARS all day! I honestly can’t wait to jump into another book of Colleen’s! The writing is addictive!πŸ€—

I absolutely loved a broken kind of love. A story of grief, heartbreak, healing and love, it was beautiful.

Delia is broken. A terrible accident has taken away half of her family, leaving just her and her one remaining daughter Rose. She is lost in grief and heartache. Her life will never be the same.

Mitch was the EMT on call the night it happened and was frantic to realise that the surviving woman in the car was none other than the woman he'd had brief conversations with at the gym the last couple of years: Delia.

Two people whos relationship would have never been more than a friendly hello in the past, become so much more to each other. A bond forms between them as Delia slowly navigates this new life without her family, and Mitch stands by her side though all the tears and pain.
Sometimes the best things happen unexpectedly.
A slow burn, age gap romance that dealt with loss and grief in a tender way. The relationship wasn't rushed and I loved that they slowly started to turn into something much more. I was rooting for these two to get their happy ending.

Have you ever read a book and thought, β€œwell that sounds nice, but that’s not how life works”? Absolutely not what you’re getting with this one. It’s the kind of book all moms and wives can relate to. And although it punches you right in the gut, it also reminds you that you can come out on top. Delia is the kind of person you want as your friend. You’ll cry with her, laugh with her and experience real life with her. Mitchβ€”a little rough around the edges, but something about that can be sexy, right?

An all around great book, and definitely one you want to read if you need to experience something REAL. Great work, Colleen!

This is the 2nd book or Colleen Youngs that I have read and it did not disappoint! It tells the tragic story of a woman named Delia who has lost almost everything, and the story of a man Mitch who never felt he had much of anything, and how they end up together. After Delia's accident, her whole world is upside down, and without realizing it, Mitch comes in and mends her heart as much as he can in a 'broken kind of love '. This book was so well written, I highly recommend it!

First, I want to thank Colleen Young for sending me a copy in exchange for an honest review! This was such an emotional story you guys, I could not put it down!

From the beginning, you get a connection between Delia and Mitch. Even as just people who see one another at a gym, things quickly turn into a great friendship. For both main characters, they have battled their own issues and you really see them push through and grow together and help one another at the same time.

From beginning to end, I was not able to put this story down. A page turner that had me wanting to know more! It was so emotional watching Delia's life completely change in a matter of seconds. How she was not an entire puddle of the floor is beyond me, but the development for her alone to get out of such a hard and heavy time was so beautiful to watch. I couldn't even begin to imagine being in her shoes for even a second.

Overall, this was a great story. It was not heavy on the romance, which for this I was okay with. It was so much more than that. It sure was an emotional roller coaster, that I couldn't put down!

I've read all of Colleen's books and this one particularly stands out in how great the simmer of romance is. It's sad and happy and so heartfelt that I enjoyed all the emotions.... but the ending was really exceptional! Well worth the whole journey.

This was a very heavy book. Within the first 3 chapters I wanted to sob. It was emotional, raw and makes you think. I’m glad I got the chance to read it.
