This tale was promising, a well-constructed alternate universe which was elaborated more fully in volume 1, which I longed to have read first. The author is obviously not a native speaker of English, and once you make allowances for that, you can reason out what she's trying to tell us pretty easily. My major beef was that the ancient 'Fey' and modern 'Fae' are far too similar to keep track of which one we're talking about all the time! Also, the shabby treatment of our heroine by her supposed love interests was too terrible for me to think she would forgive them so easily, believable lust notwithstanding. She needed lots more winning over in my opinion to redress their slights.
This is the sort of wonderful plot that it's very tempting to steal and re-write, and so I am very glad that Ms Mercier has put her copyright upon it here. If she ever re-issues it with better editing, it will be a big hit.

“The final book of Dark Fae Academy is finally here! I was really looking forward to see how the story would end and I couldn’t have ask for a different ending. Avery was such a great character and I loved her since she put certain prince in her place! I liked how we got to see her growing up. After that mean decision of the Queen that put her on a complicated situation with the princes, we saw a more mature and fearless character though my defense side wanted to shout at some situations. The princes… it was hard to love them but way more complicated to hate me. I had mix feelings toward them but I’ll let you judge them. An epic confusion to this series full of darkness, mystery and… betrayal?”
DNF. For this bundle read, I DNF’d at about 50% within The Last Fey (book 2). I found The Last Year (book 1) interesting and was intrigued to see where the plot would go within book 2. However, I didn’t enjoy this novel more in book 2 because of the plot. Plus, Avery (the main lead) really had poor decision-making, and it just kept getting worse as Book 2 continued.

This is the conclusion to a slowburn paranormal academy reverse harem duet filled with mystery, intrigue, deception at every turn, self discovery, a few sexy scenes, unlocked magic, friendship, betrayal, a fantastic shock twist or two and an ending to save the fae. Very well written, interesting diverse brilliantly developed characters with strong chemistry and a fantasy storyline. Looking forward to more from Victoria Mercier in the future.

I enjoyed reading this book. I liked the main character though some of her characteristics didn’t ring true. I didn’t like how easily she forgave them because I felt they treated her poorly and needed to redeem themselves more. Still it was an entertaining read.
