Playing For You

Rate this book
She’s a curvaceous vixen who owns the hottest lounge in Los Angeles.

He’s a sexy hockey goaltender who plays the game off the ice more than on.

What happens when a one-night stand becomes more?

Twenty-eight-year-old, voluptuous, Filipina-American, Arianna Santos has the hottest spot in LA nightlife. When her grandfather has a major stroke and there’s a low chance of recovery, she inherits from him the worst team in the National Hockey League, the San Francisco Storm. Without knowing anything about hockey or running a hockey franchise, Arianna needs to prove to the all-boys club that a well-educated, minority female owner has a place in the industry. The Storm General Manager insists that she learn about hockey from the new goalie, Blake Collins.

Tall, toned, and hazel-eyed, Blake Collins has the swift moves on the ice as the California Crusaders goaltender, continuing the Collins goalie legacy of Stanley Cup Championships his father and grandfather established for the team. When a knee injury affects his game and attitude on the ice, he gets transferred to the San Francisco Storm as their only hope of making it to play-offs. As the player with the most knowledge and skills passed from generations of great hockey players, Blake is forced to teach the new knows-nothing-about-hockey owner, Arianna Santos, about how the hockey world works.

Blake and Arianna’s animal attraction to each other gives them a passionate one-night stand in LA that doesn’t end as they expected. Will their reunion cause a riff in the organization? Will they both play nice to one another for the sake of the team?

Playing for You is the first book in the new Hot on Ice series and it was a great start to the series. Ari and Blake met at her night club and had one unforgettable evening. After he left without a word to her, she thought she was never going to see him again. Little did she know she was about to become his boss. This was a very enjoyable and well written story. Loved the chemistry between them. It was radiating off the pages. Very believable characters and that is what I look for in a story. Characters and a storyline that I can get lost in and experience as if I am there. Great read and I can't wait to see what is next in this series.

Get ready to binge this beauty!! Love, loss, insecurity, determination, and pure unadulterated need play off the page with such ferocity that you won’t be able to put this book down until you’ve read it from cover-to-cover.

The personal pressures and insecurities that both Arianna and Blake deal with throughout this story are so realistic I could put myself into their shoes and feel what they were going through, including the personal insecurities of not being enough. Enough for your partner. Enough for your team. Enough for you family. Enough for yourself.

Arianna and Blake showcase what it means to fight for a relationship. These two go through real life trials and tribulations on the page. Ex-partners. Prior lascivious acts. Bad actors. And intense misunderstandings. Watching them grow together as a couple is beautiful. And that bonus ending is a MUST, don’t skip it!!

I’m anxious to see how this world evolves with Book 2. There aren’t a ton of hints for the future of the series but I did learn that the next book will be about Brandon and Katherine 🖤

This is the 1st on a new series and Blake and Arianna’s story is the perfect beginning. Arianna will do anything for her family and when her grandfather leaves her an ice hockey team which are in the National Hockey League she is stumped as she knows nothing about the game. When the GM is adamant that she learns everything about the game to prove to this all-men league that it is acceptable for a woman to own a team and suggest Blake who is the goalkeeper with the most knowledge to help her. Ari and Blake had already met in a night club and ended up having a one-night stand, where he left without a word, and now she is going to be his new boss. This is a well written story which is intriguing, with engaging and realistic characters. The only downside, and this is in my opinion only, is that the writing felt a tad stilted in places, however, I look forward to reading more from this author.

The writing was fine at times then became choppy. The dialogue didn’t feel real. I think the author is new and that’s ok, she may need more honest friends/editors who are able to provide her valuable feedback and nudge her in the right direction. Sometimes her writing was great then fell off, this is where she needs that nudge.

DNF at 27%. The writing waffles between fine and clunky, the dialogue is terrible, I don't feel the connection between the characters, and the idea of being gifted a sports team to manage when you don't watch sports is too much for even my romance brain to believe.

I was excited to read this because it was written by a pinay, and got even more excited to learn that this was about a Filipina male character. I liked the story and the spice was pretty good. As a native San Franciscan, it was cool to read something about San francisco, even if we don’t actually have a hockey team here in the city - it would be cool to imagine what it would be like. The spice in this was great, and the story itself was a quick enough read. While I wish there was more closure with some things, i think this overall story was pretty good.

Arianna is a tough businesswoman with a successful club. Blake is a star goalie for an NHL hockey team making a comeback from an injury. When they run into each other, sparks fly. Their story is written in first person from a dual POV.

I loved Arianna and her heart for her family. I love the multicultural dimension to her story with her Filipino heritage. I really enjoyed that the author incorporated foods, language and traditions that were important to Arianna into the story. Blake has a good heart, despite having his father push him ruthlessly, and often unkindly. I really felt for him as he tries to recover from his injury, face challenges with a good attitude, fall in love, and figure out his life, all at once. His father comes around at the end of the book, but it never really felt true- maybe because the speed of it. I would have preferred to either have him be less harsh in the beginning or for there to have been a larger event which changed his heart.

I felt the characters were well developed and complex. The plot was good. There were times when the writing felt a little stilted, especially during some dialogue scenes and during the intimate moments. I think some of that was just word choice. The pacing was ok, but I found that there were some scenes that had a lot of unnecessary detail while others may have benefited from more details and exposition. I think the conclusion could have used a little more development as it felt like it wrapped up a little too fast. The editing was quite good, even with the advance review copy, which sometimes contains errors. Overall, I really did like the book. The characters were especially likable. This author is new to me and pretty new overall. I feel like she has a lot of potential and that she is one to watch. I will be reading her next book to follow her writing and more of these wonderful characters.

I am leaving this honest review after receiving an advance review copy of this book.

Playing for You is the first book in new-to-me author, Aurora Paige's Hot on Ice series. I love sports stories, especially my favorite sport hockey!

Blake Collins is a third generation goaltender for the California Crusaders. As a "Collins goaltender", he has a legacy to uphold and his overbearing father never lets him forget it. After recovering from a devastating injury, Blake is struggling on the ice and decides to blow off steam at a new night club, where he meets a beautiful young woman who blows him away.

Arianna Santos has the LA nightlife by the tail as the owner of Blue Velvet Lounge. Nightly she hosts the creme de la creme of the LA celebs, so it's no surprise she meets gorgeous, powerful men; she's never been tempted, until now. Recently dumped by her (horrible) boyfriend, she's keeping busy until she literally crashes into the hottest guy she's ever seen. Feeling instant chemistry, they spend one night together, expecting to never see each other again. Best laid plans, right?!

While there were several things I liked about this book, Ari's connection and love for her family, the author's multicultural perspective, the friends, etc, I just didn't connect with the main characters. I found them both immature, especially Ari, constantly jumping to conclusions with very little to go on. In addition, I found the premise a little implausible. As a person who has worked in a hockey organization, I know first hand how much the people who work in those offices love and immerse themselves in the sport. They work tirelessly for the team, the players and the fans. I know the team was "gifted" to her but I didn't buy her as the owner and definitely didn't care for her choice of GM in the end, as if that would solve all the problems. Despite these things, it was a quick, cute read and I'm eager to see if the next story wraps up some of these concerns! Bring on more hockey.

Thank you Aurora for the recommendation on IG!!

This is a new to me romance trope that I haven't really read much of. A sports romance!! I was super eager to dive right in when I saw the ratings were high on it as well. I can also tell you that the ratings were high because the book is THAT GOOD!!

Arianna and Blake meet in a night club for a one night stand that is truly unforgettable but that is what they were leaving it as. Neither had a commitment towards each other and that's how they were leaving it.

Well Arianna's grandfather left her the hockey team that he owned that were already in the National Championships! Arianna takes on the challenge of going in even though she knows nothing about Hockey.

Soon do they both find out that Blake plays for that very same hockey team that Arianna just inherited and to make matters worst she knows nothing about the game so she enlists his help on learning as much as she can so she can not only show she is worth being the owner but feelings are bound to be felt.

There is so much steam in this book I honestly need a fan. Their chemistry is off the charts and I really enjoyed reading these two on the pages. I can't wait to read more from this author and I am glad that I discovered something that I probably never would have if it wasn't recommended to me!

A solid start to a new series by Aurora Paige. Playing For You is the first book in her new Hot On Ice series. Arianna and Blake meet at her night club in LA when he’s out for a night with his teammates. The two have instant chemistry and an hot night together. Arianna learns that her grandfather had bought a hockey team in San Francisco and wants her to run it.

Blake is a hot shot goalie playing for the NHL team in LA when he gets traded to the San Francisco Storm, Arianna’s new team. The two are very surprised to see each other. After a brief misunderstanding, the two can’t deny how they fell about each other.

I loved how Arianna is Filipina-American. Having main characters of different races is so important. I love books with diversity and inclusion. And having a woman as the owner of a professional sports team is amazing. I hope that happens more in real life. Blake was so supportive of her and her dreams. We need more men like that. Actually, we need more people like that.

Aurora did a beautiful job of setting up the other characters for their own books. I can’t wait to read those.

Playing for You was a great Hockey Romance book. The main characters came from such different backgrounds yet they fell into one another’s worlds with such ease.

Ari is such a strong female lead yet she had insecurities that all women struggle with and it was great to see her step into a male dominated position and turn heads with how hard she wanted to make things better - and once she got her feet under her she really made things change.

Blake isn’t what you might expect the normal player to be, from the controlling father who only wants to bulldoze him into playing hockey until he can’t anymore and then having to prove that he’s no longer the playboy. It was great to read an really see the change that he wanted to make because of Ari.

This book had a few twist but didn’t give to whiplash and was a great read from start to finish. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a sweet hockey romance that doesn’t center just around sports.

I LOVE me some sports romance, and when the heroine gets to be on top in a male dominated profession, well I will always find myself delighted. Arianna owns the hottest club so she's used to all kinds of hot men, but there's something about Blake that has her hooking up with him. They spend a super HOT night together, but it's over that next morning, or so they thought. Blake finds himself injured which messes with his game & his attitude takes a dive which finds him traded to a not so great hockey team, and that's bad enough, but his father (retired hockey player) makes everything worse. Oh but there's more, see Arianna's grandfather suffers a stroke making her the owner of the SF Storm, the team that Blake is now a part of making things even more complicated. Arianna knows nothing about hockey but she's not about to give up, however, the chemistry & attraction she has to Blake & he to her can make them or break the team. To find out which direction it goes, you know what to do! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Aurora Paige hits it in the net with PLAYING FOR YOU (Hot on Ice #1). LA club owner, Arianna Santos and hockey goalie, Blake Collins have an incredible one-nightstand that neither can stop thinking about. Soon thereafter, Arianna inherits the worst team in the NHL the San Francisco Storm, and Blake is traded to the Storm. Imagine their surprise when they are reunited. Unfortunately, things are a bit complicated. This contemporary sports romance is suitable for adult readers.

PLAYING FOR YOU is a solid foundation for the Hot on Ice series. It has an interesting plot and a lot of challenges for the main characters to face. Blake and Ari have great chemistry. I enjoyed learning some things about the Filipino culture. The novel had an enthralling ending.

This is the first book that I have read by Aurora Paige. I enjoyed her writing style. I plan on following the Hot on Ice series. I recommend this story to people who enjoy multicultural romances and/or sports romances. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Playing For You is the first book in the Hot on Ice series. Arianna and Blake have a one night stand. Days later, they meet up again. The problem is Arianna is now the new owner of the hockey team tat Blake was recently traded to. I thought this was a fairly enjoyable romance., The couple definitely had great chemistry and the bedroom scenes were intensely steamy. I felt really badly for Blake every time he had to listen to his father. He had far more patience that I do. I would have told him off long before he finally did. My only wish was that I saw more of Blake and Arianna together. I felt like their HEA came a bit fast for me. Despite that I did enjoy the book. I look forward to seeing where the series goes from here.

Playing for You is the first book in the Hot On Ice series by Aurora Paige. This book is a tremendous start to the series. I love a good sports romance but but especially hockey. Hockey is my favorite sport. Blake and Arianna meet at her nightclub in LA and have one unforgettable night. When Arianna inherits a hockey team she has to learn about it fast. IN comes Blake, the player, with the most knowledge about hockey to teach her somethings. Their chemistry is still hot hot hot. It radiates through page after page. This was a fantastic read and I want to read more from Aurora Paige in the future.

-Marie, ☆☆☆☆

This book was pretty steamy!!! I love when a female lead is strong and can handle life like a boss!!

Arianna didn’t need a thing from anyone. She was strong, independent and had a great family. The only issue was in the love department until one hit hockey player made a huge impact. She wanted, needed and craved him.

Blake was a big star goalie. Even after his injury he fought to make a comeback. He was used to the ladies throwing themselves at him. One night was all it took for him to know he found the one.

These two together were a power couple. They had each other’s backs and nothing could stop them.

4 Stars!

Aurora Paige is back with a brand new steamy, contemporary-sports romance out and y'all, what a swoony, sweet, unputdownable journey this was. Playing For You, the first standalone in the Hot on Ice series, was really, really good- a fast-paced read that kept me flipping through the pages quickly and featured one strong, resilient heroine that gave me a total girl crush right from the very start.

If you like your romances packed with heat with a small dose of angst then I highly suggest you give this little beauty a whirl.

I recommend this book.

I loved this story! I love a good romance about hockey players and the women who love them. This one has a unique twist to it and it made it even more enjoyable to read. Arianna is a very strong independent female who loves her family and will do anything for them. Blake has had a good life but had his dads shadow to live behind. They make a great couple always looking out for each other and having each others back!

This books is steamy and hot and Aurora Paige did a great job with it. I cannot wait for more!

Arianna and Blake were an interesting couple. Arianna was proving that she could run her own business, and then she was given a new business as a gift because of her family's belief in her. I loved her strength and determination, and her loyalty to and love for family. Blake was a standard jerk on the outside. He had such an anger within due to his family history, but he did grow on me as the story progressed. This was a good story.

I received a copy of this story through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

I'm a huge fan of hockey romance and this was a good one to read, I loved the descriptions of the sport, they were so well done that it felt like I was there and I could picture it all so well!
I love reading about strong, independent women and Arianna didn't disappoint and I loved the cultural references, I think it really adds another dimension to the story.
Love that it's a series too as we know there'll be lots more alpha males coming our way, a good steamy read!

What a great start to a new series... I really liked both Arianna and Blake from the start. We start with Ari going through a crappy break up dude was a douche forreal. Ari and Blake meet at her club and have a hot night but he walks away. They meet again by chance when Blake gets traded y'all these two can be a little dramatic lol. These two together are definitely a power couple and they get stuff done. Im definitely ready for book 2.

One night

All it took was one day and night to change Ariannas life.
I love that the heroine is a curvy confident women, but still has some insecurities due to a douche ex.
The story how Blake and Arianna have a one night stand and then there lives are intertwined without them know I loved. Also the epilogue was just Everything!
