Adele Fortuna is not happy with her father’s plans to foist her and her sisters off on Needful husbands, but what choice does she have. Since her mother's death, she has managed to keep the household together, but with steadily decreasing funds, something has to be done. If Adele can find a well to do husband in the dusty town of Needful, Texas, perhaps her sisters will not have to suffer the indignities of being sold to the highest bidder. Despite her father’s desperate play, Adele knows that he only wants his children to have a safe home where they will be provided for once he is gone. Can a young woman’s determination to marry well bring more hope and happiness to Needful, or will all dreams be dashed in the harsh light of the real world?
Danni Roan, born in rural western Pennsylvania, has always loved the country life. Her first work published under her real name, Paula Liddle-Beem, is a collection of folk essays about childhood in the lush, green mountains of PA. Being a teacher of English and English as a Second Language for the past twelve years has only inspired Danni’s love of writing Western Historical Fiction. After receiving her Masters of Education in Teaching English as a Foreign Language she determined to indulge her passion for fiction writing. Teaching both in the USA and abroad has exposed Danni to a wide range of people from all walks of life and she tries to capture that unique character in her work.
Adele is my first read by Danni Roan, to my recollection and while I’m at a slight disadvantage coming in on book 8 of a series it worked well as a standalone. You’ll meet other characters throughout, though, who’ve already had their stories told so you may find that you want to go back and catch up
My favorite character, hands down, was Olive. Even though she’s a relatively minor, background character in this book she made an impression on me in those few scenes she graces. Maybe because she reminded me a bit of my grandmother, maybe because she was all about matchmaking, or maybe because she seemed to be the most dimensional character in this particular story. Whatever it was, she caught my attention and I really liked her & wouldn’t have minded seeing more of her.
Adele is a strong woman in many ways, putting the needs of her sisters ahead of her own happiness. This leads to a marriage of convenience which is one of my favorite tropes because it brings so much wonderful opportunity for lots of swoony tension & pent-up longing. (Also why friends-to-more is a fave too… but I digress.) Unfortunately, I missed that sort of tension in Adele. And I honestly stayed frustrated with Beau & had a difficult time engaging with him until nearly the very end. However, I did appreciate the emphasis on the characters realizing their dependence on God and coming to see themselves – and each other – as God sees them. It may not have been all swoons and sparks but it was a gentle love story with a sweet message. The epilogue was an important addition to this story, as well, and satisfied some of the loose ends I needed to see tied up.
Bottom Line: Adele, the latest installment in the Brides of Needful Texas western romance series by Danni Roan, is set in a town with plenty of supporting characters to love, too, even if you haven’t read the previous books. The tender faith message doesn’t overpower the story but definitely can’t be separated from it either – it is central to the direction that this marriage of convenience goes and to the characters’ growth as well. I did feel that too much time was spent on scenes or dialogue that didn’t necessarily advance the story while other things felt glossed over too quickly, which left me not feeling fully connected to the plot or the characters. But overall, this is a sweet book and an enjoyable way to pass an evening.
(I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book which I read via Kindle Unlimited.)
Adele Fortuna and her sisters arrive in Needful, Texas with their Father. His mission is to find them Husbands. He feels becoming a Mail Order Bride here will find his daughters husbands they can be happy with. Adele has other thoughts on this and does what she can to keep this from happening. She strikes a deal with Beau Alder, local Saloon owner. She is good with numbers and can help him in his need for someone to take care of the business side of the Saloon. In return he will provide her with the means to help prevent her sisters from becoming wives to the first man that comes along. (in her mind sold to the highest bidder) Will this arrangement prove advantageous? Can these two come to terms and create a marriage that will complete them both? A little drama, a lot of faith and a marriage that is decidedly just what they both need might just lead to more than either of them bargained for! You will love this newest book in the Brides of Needful, Texas series.
This is a very sweet story of a sister's love and devotion to her younger sisters and the desperate means she will try to keep them safe. Adele's father has brought Adele and her sisters to Needful Texas as Mail Order Brides to find them husbands. Adele believes that her father has the best of intentions but wants to spare her sisters from being "auctioned off" to the highest bidder. She arranges a marriage of convenience with a local saloon owner Beau. He agrees to help her protect her sisters from being forced into marriage. As with many marriages of convenience Adele and Beau begin to fall in love. Beau and Adele's path to a happy ending however comes with many twists and turns. I love the way God's plan for this couple was reveled thru the twists and turns.
This is a sweet and heartwarming story of a sister's love for her younger sisters. Their father moves the girls to Needful in hopes of the girls finding a husband. This is Adele and Beau's story. Adele meets and enters into an agreement with Beau that will protect her sisters, so to speak, from a "bride for sale" scheme. Adele, however, never intended to fall in love with Beau. Along the way problems are encountered, Beau realizes his need for God, and things turn out in an unexpected way. Will Adele and Beau reach a HEA? Be sure to read this story to find out. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did.
This was the first book I've read written by this author and I really enjoyed it! I like the characters and the storyline. Adele is determined to marry well so that her sisters futures will be secure. She arranges a marriage of convenience to local bar owner, Beau. Beau is looking for a sophisticated wife that will help him look good to the townspeople. He has spent his whole life trying to be accepted and he feels Adele can help him with that. They soon settle into their arrangement but Adele finds herself falling in love with Beau. Once he wrestles with his insecurities, he discovers that he loves her as well.
Beau- owner of a saloon wants respect among the town runs for mayor. Adele- she took her future in her hands and picked out her own groom, a business arrangement at 1st. I enjoyed reading this engaging story with intriguing characters. Their relationship started as a business arrangement but as they got to know and respect each other their relationship through God grew. That was enjoyable part to read when he realized the love from his wife and respect from the town. Their story has a wonderful and complete HEA.
Adele made a bargain with Beau. The arrangement suited them. Afterall neither were youngsters and Adele brought civility to his position in town. But bargains tend to break apart especially as life happens and feelings change. Enjoyed this immensely and look forward to seeing how Adele's sisters lives change.
Such a great story, i've had tears of joy flowing from the beginning to end. A beautiful story of being lost and then found with God's unconditional love. Adele even found what she didn't realize she was looking for. Great story. Thanks so much for the joy.
Adele feels that she must get married to a wealthy man to take care her younger sisters so they will have a chance to see what they really want out of life besides just being someone's wife. She didn't plan on falling for the man who hires/marries her just to be his bookkeeper and cook.
A family seeking security toss in the guy who never feels like he belongs and you have the beginnings of a storyline that is full of hope and leading to love and friends and place to belong in Needful.
Adele is willing to give anything for her sister’s future, including her own. Beau runs the town saloon and he doesn’t know how to love hisself. I loved this story, especially how Adele finds her way back to her faith.
This is an outstanding, sweet story! Adele and Beau agree to a marriage of convenience without love being a part of their agreement. Gradually, they find themselves changing...
Adele doesn't expect so in a marriage that is a business arrangement, but she slowly realises that she craves affection and her husband needs acceptance. But Beau needs to accept his own past and move on before he can open his heart to affection and acceptance from Adele. A sweet book and whilst both Adele and Beau may begin as cold, hard and slightly abrupt characters, their business arrangement leads them on a journey of self discovery, which softens them and their outlooks on life, allowing them to open their hearts to romance and love. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Fun story with a small town called Needful and all its wonderful characters! Once again Danni Roan writes another fantastic story of a mail order bride from Needful. I was swept away in the pages and found this romance to be endearing. A man that needed God and a women up for the task of showing God’s love. A sweet clean romance that had me rooting for the characters. This is a story that will lift your heart and have you dreaming of love. Was given a complimentary copy. All opinions are my own.
