If he suggested it, she was absolutely going to unwrap him like a Christmas present.
Mia made a promise to always attend her family’s Christmas ‘gathering’. Hard to call it a party when they’re about as much fun as a funeral. It’s the same thing every year. Why are you still single? When are you going to settle down? Get married? Start having kids? Sick of the judgement and the Regency era attitudes, Mia has a plan. She might have promised to attend the gathering, but she never promised to behave when she got there. Rocking up with a member of the Intergalactic Community on her arm could be just the thing to rattle a few cages and make the party far more entertaining. A newly launched exchange program could be just the ticket to find her ‘date’. Three days at a terrible Christmas function in exchange for a week long all expenses paid tour of London - who could possibly refuse?
Raith has a problem. A money problem. Days away from being destitute, he has two choices - go to the home planet he swore he’d never return to, or give in to the reality of living the rest of his Unmatched life on some dismal colony in the back end of the Universe. But when a strange request from a Human female catches his eye, Raith sees a third solution. This Mia is the most beautiful female he’s ever seen. Pretending to be her date won’t exactly be a hardship. And maybe, if he plays it just right, she might be amenable to making their little arrangement more permanent. Being the kept man of a beautiful Human female sounds infinitely better than his other options. If there’s one thing Raith knows, it’s how to separate pleasures of the body from affairs of the heart. But the more he gets to know Mia, the less sure he is he can keep doing it...
A steamy science fiction romance featuring a fiercely independent woman who just wants to have fun, and an alien male out to prove that life can be much more fun with two.
I felt sorry for Raith through most of the book, and Mia came across as selfish and callous. But I did enjoy parts of the book, I liked their good bits and I loved Raith’s naughty nature.
Mia is looking to find a plus one for her grandmother’s annual three day Christmas party. Mia wouldn’t even bother going except she promised her father before he died that she would always attend. Her grandmother is a prejudiced old money matron who likes to control everything and everyone. When Mia learns about the Intergalactic Exchange Program, it’s the perfect solution. She gets and Alien for a week, which is about the best “shocker” she can think of to get back at her grandmother.
Raith is a bartender at a resort that is only open 6 months of the year. Even though his boss warned him to “budget” for 6 months of unemployment, he didn’t. So broke and unemployed, he is looking for a quick fix. He sees Mia’s add for a companion for a week through the Intergalactic Exchange Program. He is drawn to Mia’s picture and her feisty personality. She is very open about her horrible family and what her goal is. He understands because his family is just as horrible. He ran away 10 years ago and will never go back to his home planet. It seems like a perfect solution for both of them. He arrives on Earth and is picked up by Mia. They are both drawn to each other, which is not part of the plan. She figures she will just sleep with him and get it out of her system and then move on, like she has always done with all of her relationships. Unfortunately that backfires on both of them. Mating lines appear on Raith, much to his shock, but he is also thrilled to have finally found his mate. He didn’t think it would ever happen. Unfortunately, Mia is horrified and runs! She closed off her heart when her father dies and is afraid to love anyone for fear the same thing happens. Can she overcome her fears and take a chance on Raith? Great book from start to finish!! I think I found a new author!
I think this novel was my favorite so far in the whole series. The hero was definitely an alpha hero, and the heroine was an alpha heroine. Both of them had dominant personalities and the heroine especially was terrified of feeling dreaded FEELINGS. I have a decided preference for alpha characters in my romance novels, because it is always delicious to see them surrender to love, honesty and vulnerability and embrace the strength that emotional fluency gives them after being socialized to believe that emotions are a weakness, not a strength. The world building was excellent and the characterization was top shelf. My one caveat is that this series rarely has high stakes or adventure or action elements. I far preferred the first book in her other sci-fi romance series as a result, because that book had high stakes and dangerous political maneuvering. Much more exciting space opera romance flavor. However, this novel came the closest in this whole series to that kind of flavor. Bravo!
Annabelle Rex has written a roles reversal book that completely surprised and shocked me. Raith is a penniless built decades unmatched alien gigilo. Mia is a rich successful financier who hires him for a holiday weekend. What follows is a touching hot sweet romance. I almost rated this book a four but then said to myself, “Why a 4 when the only thing unsettling you is the role reversal of a rich female versus male.” Kudos Ms. Rex for recognizing there is no reason why a successful rich woman can’t find her love and happiness in a male not in the same income bracket as herself.
Oh my gosh! I loved Raith. It went to a totally different direction from the earlier books. So much fun to read. What happens when you have got to go to that stuffy matriarchal family Christmas dinner? And your Grandmother is pushing you to bring your plus 1. Well you could get one of your friend's friends, or one of your friend's brothers to come. But then, your friend would never forgive you. Or, you could finagle a way to get a stranger to come with you. Raith. A giant red alien with horns. Guess who's coming to dinner? What a blast! You've got to read it to see what happens. ❤ I received an Advanced Readers Copy. Aren't I the lucky one?
This is about a woman who needed a date to a family Christmas function and an alien who is trying to figure out if he can be happy being a companion since he has not been matched. He decides to give being a companion a try. Unbeknownst to the alien the human he agreed to be a companion to, never took the match test. Interesting things happen after that. Good read.
For a young woman that said she would not full on love, she aranged for someone from an Alien race to go with her to a family Christmas party just to upset her grandmother on a big scale only to find that the dates had something else in mind for these two young people for the became mates and now are happy with each other.I would like to say thank you for all your hard work and may fortune smile 😃on you always 😁from a bookworm
I was sent a copy of this book by the author in exchange for an honest review. This is the first Annabelle Rex book I've read and it definitely won't be the last. I adored the story of Mia and Raith. Mia has to attend her grandmother's annual Christmas party and over the years has been constantly harassed about when is she going to settle down. This year she decides to take the bull by the horns and advertises for an alien date. She gets a "bull with horns" in Raith. Huge with bright red skin, he's gong to make a scene no matter where he is. He's fun loving and is so up for the arrangement with Mia. But as with all aliens, something goes wrong and they fall in love. The antics, the emotion, the raw pain of losing her dad years before all combine to make Mia take a step backwards. Will she lose Raith or can she find the strength to commit to a life with him. With the help of her stepmother, Nicole, they learn what their hearts have been trying to tell them all along. Highly recommended.
The story is great. The background that they both come from are totally different from each other and their life experiences have had an effect on both of them. They have to learn to navigate thru their emotions which makes them grow closer in the end. I have both laughed and cried through the book.
So cute and too short. Mia needs a plus one to go to her Grandmother's Christmas celebration and along with her friends decides an Alien companion website stating her wishes truthfully would be fun. Mia got a multitude of applications but Raith had the best. Let the romantic games begin!
This is one of my favorite books in the series. I loved how Mia and Raith had to learn about themselves before they could truly be matched. I cried when Mia learned to accept herself and why she was like she was. When she told Raith she wanted a partner and not someone that was secondary to her I cheered for the both of them.

I love how Raith and Mia are a perfect match. It just took a bit if talk for Mia to realize it. The story was a bit angstsy and I cried a bit. Letting go of one's fears to be able to embrace the happiness that is right in front of them takes a lot of courage and strength.
I find that the style of the books have changed from the first couple books, I liked that they had to overcome some real obstacles. With these last 3 there wasn't any outside conflicks , just some everyday angst that a lot of couples go through. I don't know if I want to spend my money on a run of the mill book.
Raith and Mia, two broken people as afraid of the future but perfect soulmates for each other. What an incredible addition to this series. Once again, you kept me glued to this story to see how it ends.
Mia and Raith's story is well told and nerve wracking. Love the depth of the characters, feels like they are fully formed and the story isn't rushed. Liked Nicoke's outcome as well.
I love this series. The world building is excellent, the characters are believable, and the stories are wonderful. Raith made me cry, so have the tissues ready.
This is a sweet sci-fi romance.. I liked it. It is interesting to read, and has a great storyline.. I voluntarily received this book for an honest review.
Commitment and relationship is not something that Mia does, She needs a no strings date for the family Christmas party and after hearing all about the intergalactic travel exchange from her friends she may have found the answer to her troubles. Raith needs a job so answers an ad on the intergalactic travel exchange and so begins a story of crossed wires mating marks and a realisation that there is a chance at happiness for all.
This was such an interesting book I’m sorry that I haven’t read the previous 5. I thought I had but oh well. Raith was hot and fun and just what Mia needed to shake up her life. Too bad she wasn’t planning on falling for him.
Emotional roller coaster ride through development of emotions. Love hate family relationships have pushed Mia to a love them and leave them. Enter Raith.
How do you get your nagging grandmother off your back about your lack of a boyfriend? You invite a pretend alien male to pose as you boyfriend! The author throws a monkey wrench into this plan, making both do a deep inner inspection of what they really want. And carefree, fun loving Mia and Raith are slowly starting to change.
A female from Earth with grief issues, a male from another planet with a highly matriarchal society. They’ve both got their hang ups and I loved the way they interacted. I’ve read the story twice and, even the second time, it made me tear up at a couple of points because of the rawness and genuineness of the emotions.
The secondary characters are delightful and the overlap between stories makes the reader feel engaged in the characters’ ongoing lives. I’m really enjoying this author’s writing - every book is better than the last.
The story is dual POV, well written and edited, and beautiful accidental mate story. I received an advanced reader copy (that I asked for) in exchange for an honest review.
