This book, Weaving the New Creation by James Fowler, was referenced in my Education for Ministry (EFM) course in week 30 essay, "Mission, Vocation, and Gifts" by John deBeer. My group found the bridge metaphor presented in that essay a little confusing. The bridge metaphor was developed as part of The Klesis Project: Hearing and Responding to God’s Call as part of James Fowler's model of vocation. Weaving the New Creation does not seem to have the bridge metaphor or a more complete explanation of it.
I mostly just scanned Weaving the New Creation quickly, and it looks somewhat interesting. It seems to be a collection of essays, organized into 7 chapters, examining the challenges faced by the church as it enters the twenty first century. One or two chapters include information about calling and vocation, and from my brief scan, those chapters are likely worth reading a little more carefully.
I think Weaving the New Creation may be a good book, but it was not what I was looking for. The two stars represents a bad match between me and what I wanted, not a judgement on the quality of the book overall. I was disappointed with the book.
