Amazing book, full of examples and suggestions on how to improve your team-building culture, how to structure your team (being remote or not) and have it perform at its best.
The book follows along with a story that opens up the topics one by one: formation of the team, motivation, seeing each other as humans and not as "specialist" only. It marks a lot of points, making examples and explaining how to overcome difficulties.
I loved how the author explains the key principle of a working - effectively working - team. Loved the comparison between remote teams, normal teams, family teams. All of them can be `power team`s if the members of the team are guided by someone who knows what to do to `empower` teams across borders; being the border physical distance, cultural distance, or different aspects of life in general.
============================================================ SPOILER ALERT ============================================================ "The nucleus of this power team isn't the manager or the boss, it isn't any member of the team. It is the purpose and goal of the team".
Peter is a friend of mine so I might be a little bias. Peter has really developed how to successfully work remotely in teams long before the pandemic. Many good insights on how to develop your organization for the future. I had Peter as my guest on Inside Ideas podcast where we talked about his books, working in teams, and international management. You can find the video podcast here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2_K1...
Nowadays, managing a team in which not everyone is physically present at the same location becomes more and more the norm. The top reasons why such teams fail are:
• They fail to build trust despite the distance • They can't overcome communication barriers • The goals of the individual and the team aren't aligned • The vision and goal of the team aren't clear or the team doesn't identify with it
This book is a quick read with some nice titbits and practical tips on how to avoid virtual teams from failing. I especially liked the "lifeline" exercise during which everyone talks a little bit about personal and professional high- and lowlights.
