There had been dark times for the past twenty years. Anyone with even an ounce of magic in them had been in hiding and on the run. There was only one sacred haven that drew them together. It was where they traveled and provided a light in the darkness. The Circum Magicae. Elizabeth Magella had been waiting for the moment she would come into her destiny since she was a little girl. She’d worked her way up during the dark times and was now the leader of the circus. There was just one problem—someone wanted to take it from her and turn it into something it wasn't. Andrew Castein knew what they all thought. He had something to prove, but his last name got in the way. It came with perks—and expectations—he didn't want. And it didn't help that the one person he had a connection with hated him in ways he couldn't defend against. Darkness was lurking around the corner. With more gifted individuals coming to the surface, it was proving the dark was still eclipsing the light. There were still some in the world who thought people with powers should be wiped from the Earth. How could they tell who was on their side, and could any of them trust a stranger?
Born and raised in the beautiful Texas Hill Country was a little girl with wild, curly hair and a growing imagination. Storytelling began at an early age as an only child who loved to use her imagination and make up stories. As she grew, she could never decide on what she wanted to be once she was grown up. Her love of making up stories didn’t stop, and it was with that imagination she realized she could live all of those realities and dreams, in stories.
A.R. Hall is a USA Today Bestselling author who lives in Texas with her almost high school sweetheart husband, daughters, dogs, and a growing collection of crafting hobbies. She claims to be an extroverted introvert, but every Pisces likes to keep their head in the clouds. Her other interests include starting gardens, binging tv shows, eating sour candy, and tracking her hydration.
I enjoyed how balanced this book was. The fantasy elements were actually built out, not just a backdrop for a romance story. There was also friendship and intrigue interwoven into everything. I also appreciated how the author didn't info-dump on us. The world building was done organically, and added onto with each chapter. That being said, I didn't feel confused at any point due to lack of information. There were things I was curious to learn more about, but it didn't distract me from the story.
This book was hard to put down. Every time I was interrupted I was ready to get back to read the ending. I am excited to read whatever the continuation of this story will be. Elizabeth is very protective of her circus “family”. Where will it take her and Andrew? When will we learn about Tierney and what powers she really has? What about Damon? Terrance? Jacob or John? I want more - can’t wait to see how these characters develop
The plot twist at the end was mind blowing; however, I expected much more boom towards the end. Also, I think having Tierney’s POV would be something to add to the spice with all the voices. I was a little disappointed with the limited amount of spicy scenes between Elizabeth and Andrew. But overall, an amazing read!!!
If you love fantasy (angels, demons, magic) mixed with some spicy romance - this is the perfect book. It’s a quick read that is written in a way that takes you away from yourself and draws you deeply into life of the circus. Can’t wait for the next installation in this series
I admit not as many erotic scenes as I would like but that is me, the ones in the book are amazingly written. I really enjoyed how the story was told from both main characters. I love the fantasy type books and this is an amazing love story. I highly recommend!!!! Cannot wait for the next Circum Magicae book.
Great start to a series, I can’t wait for more. Elizabeth is protective of her people and rightfully so after the Dark Times. But seeing her finally open up to new possibilities makes you not want to put the book down. I’m looking forward to the next installment!
I really loved the angels and demons aspect of this book and felt like there were some strong characters and even stronger writing. I was disappointed that there wasn't more of the Circus in the book, however.
A.R. did it again with this book. She absolutely made the magic come to.life with the angels and demons in this book. I am all for Elizabeth and Andrew's HEA!
I absolutely loved this book! The story has passion and love, magic and darkness that make you want more. I can’t wait to see if there’s more coming of this series!
3.5/5 This is a good start to something bigger. The climax of the story could have been longer as well as the after effects. I see some strong characters and would love to know more about them.
Not all demons were bad, and not all angels were good. Elizbeth basicaly runs Circum Magicae and will do anything to protect her people.. I love strong female MC. Andrew trying to prove he not his parents. Well reading I couldnt help but to want to run away with the circus. I cant wait for next book in the series i couldn't put it down.
