Loved this book! Told in epistolary fashion by a late-eighteenth century clergyman, it gives you a vivid picture of the busy lives that people visiting fashionable Bath, England, led. Compelled to linger for near two months "to take the waters" for severe gout, Mr. Penrose details his comings and goings, his health, the weather, food, market prices, social events, and even church sermons. Period language and phrasing adds to the charm. I'm just about ready to set an upcoming book in Bath instead of London or some country estate!
