BLOOD WOULD BE SPILT, LIVES CHANGED AND DECISIONS MADE.
When the Salish War Leader, Spotted Eagle appeared in the clearing before their cabin, life-long friends Gabe and Ezra weren’t sure what to think. This man had shown himself to be their friend, and now he invited them to join him and the village on a buffalo hunt. With winter just around the corner, it seemed the likely thing to do, but had they known what the journey would bring, they might have had second thoughts…
Gabe and Ezra’s discovery of the massacre of the Paiute village, and the three survivors that told the story, was just the beginning of the fight against the warring Waiilatpus. When the band of raiders also attacked the Salish and fled, it was up to Gabe and Ezra to seek some vengeance and recapture the stolen girls.
A pursuit across the lava beds of the Snake River plains, a fight in the dead of night, a thundering stampede of buffalo and a horde of bugs that shrouded the entire valley, were just the added complications to a simple buffalo hunt, or perhaps more. The unorthodox ways of the two non-native men would earn Gabe more scars, Ezra a new name, the lasting friendship of the Paiute and the gratefulness of the Salish.
Born and raised in Colorado into a family of ranchers and cowboys, B.N. Rundell is the youngest of seven sons. Juggling bull riding, skiing, and high school, graduation was a launching pad for a hitch in the Army Paratroopers. After the army, he finished his college education in Springfield, MO, and together with his wife and growing family, entered the ministry as a Baptist preacher. Together, B.N. and Dawn raised four girls that are now married and have made them proud grandparents. With many years as a successful pastor and educator, he retired from the ministry and followed in the footsteps of his entrepreneurial father and started a successful insurance agency, which is now in the hands of his trusted nephew. He has also been a successful audiobook narrator and has recorded many books for several award-winning authors. Now finally realizing his life-long dream, B.N. has turned his efforts to writing a variety of books, from children’s picture books and young adult adventure books, to the historical fiction and western genres which are his first love.
We Will go on the buffalo hunt with our friends. Since we are going the same way as our friends, but we are a day ahead, we should ride this easy trail and heading the same way, and meet them at "x" in three days. So Gabe and Erza told their wives the time away would be 8 or nine days away. BUT, if you have followed these two characters you will know........ that trouble comes to them!! And their time predictions are never aligned with perfect passages.
They go to hunt buffalo and as Ezra predicts, Gabe finds someone to save. And another and you know how it goes. There is adventure at every turn. Highly recommended for all readers. Don't miss out. This has become one of my favorite authors.
Up to this point I have read all 11of his books and have been unable to put them down. The discriptions and story content are excellent. I have lived close to the Rockies and have spent many days camping and hunting and the content of his writings have brought back wonderful memories. I look forward to future books.
Once again an excellent book which keeps your attention all the way through. I must admit all the books I have read by this author have kept my attention for beginning to the end.
The saga continues as the family’s need for winter provisions necessitate a trip in search of bison herds. On the way, Ezra and Gabe encounter multiple adventures, some with long term consequences.
I have enjoyed The Buckskin chronicles, Rocky Mountain Saint series and I am thoroughly enjoying The Stonecroft Saga. Well deserved 5* just one critique though, please stop with the Sermons, I tend to skip them anyway.
In all my reviews I haven't mentioned the most thrilling story of our Creator in all parts of life a as a necessary food. This continuing story includes Christianity as it wraps in & around daily life. It is so satisfying to feel while reading!
Good book. It had a lot of suspense. I liked the detailed description of the land they traversed
It had a lot of suspense. I liked the detailed description of the land that they traveled through. Liked how the two men respected and complimented each other.
Gabe and Ezra leave their wives and children at the cabin while they go looking for buffalo to supply meat for the winter ahead. Like always they find more than they bargained for.
I just discovered Randall and I like his rap writing, but I do have a gripe. He is entirely too wordy. When one soon as full day, he uses a half a dozen. Consequently I skip a lot
Very good book of the theories keeps you wanting to read more enjoying the characters very much and how they are becoming a family through the hardships of the west
As usual this addition this action-packed series a serious grabber! Great yarn with the usual characters, action aplenty & some good insights to the Western life!
Bob Rundell – Stonecroft Saga Bk 11 – Paiute Passage – Reviewed 11/2/20 – Read 10/30/20
What could go wrong with joining friends for a Buffalo Hunt? Most anything if your name is Gabe!
Winter is screaming around the bend when Plenty Bears, Chief of the Salish, and his war leader, Spotted Eagle stop in for a visit with Gabe & Ezra. They joined them for their mid-day meal and then invited them to join the Salish on their last Buffalo hunt before winter. The girls, Cougar Woman, and Grey Dove decide not to join the men on the hunt as they had traveled quite a bit over the summer, and they felt the children needed the rest.
As the men started their journey to meet up with Spotted Eagle and the others, they decided to take their time. As always when they travel, they both enjoy basking in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. One of the things that Gabe always does whenever they travel is to climb up on whatever he can to scope out what was around them when they camped. On this climb, though he came back to camp and Ezra knew his friend. When he saw his face, he knew and at the same time felt the Death that was all over the valley. What Gabe saw was devastating!
And now the story begins…
What did I like? I think that the one main thing I like about Bob’s books are the descriptions that he uses to describe the surroundings around his awesome characters. I have traveled quite a bit, both by car and horseback. I wish that I had the knack that Bob does so that I could have written down and described my travels. When you read Bob’s books the world just jumps out and surrounds you. I know that being able to see this in my mind’s eye makes the books more enjoyable. He also can describe his characters so that you feel like you know them, and you have joined them to enjoy their adventures too! I have said this in the past, but I just have to say it again: Bob adds a light touch of religion to his books, nothing that is forced on the reader, but enough that you can feel it and take it the way that you want. The gifts that we all enjoy around us, Bob gives it back to us in our mind’s eye.
What will you like? Mystery, adventure, humor, excitement, and a different look at nature. Enjoy this adventure with men that lived during the time, feel the area around them with the excellent descriptions and details that Bob gives you in your read. Take your time and listen to the wind, hear the water in the creeks, hear the howl of the wolf, laugh at the gentle jabbing of friends and family, but most of all read about the love of life and nature. Bob gives that to all of us as we live through the many adventures of his excellent characters that enjoy and share the love of friendship with all they meet. This book is filled with new and old characters that over the series have become our friends. Join them and enjoy it for yourself.
Every book in this series is beyond awesome. I just finished book 15 and every one of these books placed me in the middle of an amazing world that I and many like me knew so little about. These are page turners and you turn into night readers. My main review on these books was written after I finished the 15th book of this series. I wish it would have continued and perhaps Mr. Rundell has a book 16 up his sleeve. Your an amazing author Mr. Rundell.
Exciting Early Frontier Fairy Tale! My description of "fairy tale" is very high praise for the author's masterful creativity in continuing these most enjoyable "Stonecraft Saga" series! Loaded with interesting, historically accurate information about life in the early frontier, readers can learn a lot about how to survive in the wilderness.
Gabe and Ezra travel north to find buffalo and help their Salish friends. They meet new friends and aid in rescuing hostages. This book is shorter than usual but it is an interesting and fairly well written book.
