A great guide for exploring the beautiful southwestern USA. Included in its 568 pages are some stories, fast facts, maps, guides to activities such as hiking, biking, sleeping and eating. There is listed information on all national and state parks, as well as "roads less traveled". If you are exploring these states, you can't leave home without it.

This was my first lonely planet in the Regional Guide, the other ones I used were for country or city, I don't know if it is because of this, or because it is the first one I used in America, but I did not find in it as much information as I usually do. A lot of cities didn't have maps, or only partial ones, and a lot of places were not easy to find on the state maps. In the other LP books I've used I really liked to have an idea of the time it takes to travel from one place to another, which was rarely mentionned in this one. Not so much suggestions for restaurants or lodging, plus, I went to an hostel that was a Top Choice in the guide, and oh god, I wouldn't recommand it except if you are very short on money, which, according to me, was almost the only positive point of the place !
It wasn't a bad guide, just less useful and detailed than the few other LP country guide I used.
I don't know if the Rough Guide for this region is better...

Tried to use this for recent southwest road trip but the Kindle Unlimited/digital versions of the Lonely Planet are so poorly designed that they're unusable. The navigation doesn't work and there's no continuity leaving pieces unfinished.
