Nigel battles for his life as drugs make him choose between his love for his new Powder Goddess or his Musical Mistress.
D.M. Needom has been creating stories since she was a kid. She started committing them to paper when she was in high school. Starting off as a bassist and television model during her first foray into college, she soon discovered her preferred form of education was working in the music and film industries.
Living a fortuitous life, D.M Needom appreciates the amazing opportunities she’s had in her life. Her first stint as a radio personality came after she won a contest for knowing the song of the day. She was a mere blur in My Best Friend’s Wedding as Julia Roberts ran past while she was an extra. However, the excitement of being on the set made her long to work on other projects. Her longing eventually led her to sign on to a low-budget sitcom, where she was an actress and had many other positions, including line producer. She’s stated numerous times that it was one of her favorite jobs.
Originally from New Orleans, she now calls the North West Burbs of Chicago her home with her two fur babies; Chloe, kitty, and Cami, pup. While she got to experience motherhood being a stepmother, true love was elusive until she met her second husband, with whom she spent sixteen wonderful years together.
Currently, she is the host of the Better To …Podcast with D. M. Needom. She is also working on Gotta Get High To Fall So Low. Besides writing, she enjoys intuitively reading Tarot and Oracle cards for others. While she enjoys a variety of television, movies, video games, and books she has recently realized there isn’t enough time in the day to do it all.
Pay close attention to the word DARK in the title…………….. What this book is not – A Rock Romance or Is it????? What this book is A detailed train wreck/can’t look away/front row seat into the life of the vilest person you will ever read about. What this book is – 3 part story/journey PART ONE-Prologue/Before Rehab Since I am an avid Rock Star Romance reader I can tell you that it morphed right away into a psychological look into the mantra of Sex, Drugs, and Rock ‘n’ Roll as told by Nigel Hartagan who has lived it to the fullest and at the detriment to any loving relationship he may had let alone his career. PART TWO – REHAB A self-destructive narcissist with truly no redeeming qualities, I truly wanted to KILL HIM at times, no most times So why read it? – It is a fascinating and addictive look into the mind of someone that is a Monster. The storytelling is in journal form and grabs on and doesn’t let go. PART THREE – THE AWAKENING The opening lines of the 60’sTV show comes to mind – see italics It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, “and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.” To say I am gob smacked is an understatement – My WTF Radar is off the charts and I honestly don’t know if I liked what happened. I don’t want to change my mind about Nigel, I LOVED hating the evil bastard and was sooo hoping this fucker was actually Sixth Sense. ANNNNND – There’s a Book Two – Bring on the Liquor (That’s not in the book – it’s MY line) Soo Why 5 Stars - This is NOT a typical rock star romance in fact there is very little romance to be found, but what it is is a look into the mind of a rock star with many addictions, one that will piss you off to no end, do not go into this book with any preconceived notions on books you have read before- It's ugly, it's infuriating and different. The Author's voice as Nigel will have you convinced this is an autobiography and that's a good enough reason for me for the rating. You have been warned. I was able to download this book from iBooks, it is available on Kobo and Barnes & Noble currently.
My Review: My Daze with the Dark Muse is the first book that I have read written by author D.M. Needom. Due to its strong language, this book is suitable only for adult readers. Nigel Hartagan is the main focus of the story. We all dream to achieve big in life but nobody thinks what we will do once we achieve all. Here, Nigel is a great rock star. Fame introduced him to the life of drugs, meaningless sex, etc. In this novel, we see him involved with so many women. He even had a pretty daughter and don't even regret losing her.
Nigel's character is written nicely by the author. He is different from a usual man. His thoughts shift within a moment. In this novel, we see Nigel rising as a star and losing himself to drugs. This book needs to be read with concentration as one thing or the other keep on happening in Nigel's life. Cover photo of the book is nice. It is a rockstar fiction written in the form of Nigel's journal. Written in first person, readers will find this as an unputdownable book. It's a promising story that won't disappoint you.
A human far from one's standards Nigel Hartagan is. He is a famous bass player. However, the world of cocaine arrived with fame. Nigel's diary is written in such a way as to feel the two things he always tells. He appears to be so happy often, and the other time he is affected by narcotics. Anything about Nigel's life amplified his narrative. It's not always right for Nigel to execute Ava. His wife Ava cannot completely satisfy her sexual needs, he feels he has to looking for sex out.The character of Nigel is well written by the writers. It's different from an average guy. In a second, his emotions are shifting. In this book, we see Nigel as a star growing and being dragged. This book must be read concentrating for one thing or the other begins to take place throughout the life of Nigel. The book's cover photo is great.I really did not encounter problems in reading the book while I was talking about vocabulary and the vocabulary used in the text. You've got a green signal if you're the one waiting for to launch.

Brilliantly told in journal style, the dark road he goes down is one you don't want to miss! With this book, the author takes you on his dark decent into a world that has a realistic quality you don't get in a lot of rock romances anymore. There is nothing PC about this book, I loved it! Fantastic book. Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll. This book gets down to the nitty gritty of the pitfalls of being famous in the music industry. You get to take a journey into the darkness. I was able to create a vivid picture in my mind of “the muses” channeled in order for D.M. to write this novel. I look forward to reading more books in the series, as well as other works by this author. I do recommend this book if you are a big fan of music.
❤️ If you want to know about the grim, gritty rock & roll underbelly of fame, you just won't like to miss this one. The book is intense and is not recommended for kids. The book has some serious sexual content which is for adults only. And, obviously, being an adult, I enjoyed the complete book. The book had everything, sex, anger, love, passion, and music.
🎶 The key subject of the plot is Nigel Hartagan. We always dream of accomplishing huge in life, but after we complete all, no one thinks what we'll do. Here, Nigel is a wonderful rock star. Fame introduced him to the life of medicine, sex without purpose, etc. We see him involved with too many females in this book. He had a lovely daughter and he didn't even regret losing her. It is a tremendous challenge for Rock Legend Nigel to continue to live a normal life and be a decent father, husband, and sober guy, who has addicts and temptations continually thrown at him. You may hate him a lot of times, but you just cannot forget him ever. His emotions change in a second. In this novel, we see Nigel climbing like a star and losing himself to drugs.
🎸 The way author has described the main character facing the downfall, his ups and downs and everything and all those characters in his life was just done amazingly. The storytelling is seamless and outstanding work has been done. The language is intense and quick to understand. The characters are thorough and it was a reading eye-opener that would encourage readers in their lives to make their choices wisely. I was thrilled to read this novel, and I enjoyed Needom's style of writing.
'My Daze with the Dark Muse' is the first book in the Better to Burn Out series by D.M. Needom. This book is written in three parts: Before Rehab, Rehab and The Awakening. This novel is written in the form of a character's journal and that made me liked it even more. Most of the story is set in year 1997.
Reading about Nigel Hartagan journal is not everyone's cup of tea. He has done things that one couldn't even do in their dreams. His life revolved around the three B’s: blow, booze, and blow jobs. From a woman named Cami, he learnt how to fuck and how to make love. His first wife Sil got pregnant so Nigel took the responsibility and got married. But Nigel couldn't be stable in life and things change in the blink of an eye. Nigel's second wife is Ava. She raised Renee, his daughter. Renee loved her so much.
Nigel's character is very different from one's expectations. I loved Ava's character a lot. This book is a story with strong plot. Cover photo is nice with a suitable title. I am looking forward to read the sequel of this book. If you are interested in reading dark tales then go ahead with this one. Please be advised that the book contains strong language and is suitable for adult readers.

𝑻𝒊𝒕𝒍𝒆: My Daze with the Dark Muse 𝑨𝒖𝒕𝒉𝒐𝒓: DM Needom
𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘: My Daze with the Dark Muse is the first installment in the Better to Burn Out series by D.M. Needom. Nigel Hartagan is a character that is far from one's expectations. He is a bass player in a popular band. But with fame came the life of drugs. Nigel's journal is written in a manner that one could feel he always says two things. Sometimes he seems so satisfied and the other time he is under the influence of drugs. Whatever happens in Nigel's life made the story more intense. Nigel's behavior towards Ava is not always right. He thinks he has to look outside for sex because his wife Ava couldn't fulfill his sexual desires fully.
Melinda was the woman of his dreams but he even lost her. Writing Nigel's character must not be an easy thing for Needom. She must have to understand how a man's mind work especially of the intoxicated ones.
Narration of the story is smooth..author has done great job in this book. This is a well written story. It is intense and the language is easy to understand. Characters are described in detail and it was an eye opener read that will earn readers to make their choices in life wisely. I am glad to read this book and I enjoyed writing style of Needom.
🎤It tackles all the negative stuff that fame might bring about: sex, drugs, and how something is always pushed into your lap. Trying to live an everyday life as a decent father, husband and sober man is a massive battle for Nigel Rock Legend, who has continuously thrown addicts and attempts upon him. 🎤The journal of Nigel has been written in such a way one might feel that two things are always said. He is often very satisfied and the other time he is affected by narcotics. Anything about Nigel's life intensifies the plot. It's not always right to execute Nigel with Ava. He feels he has to look for women outside as Ava's wife can't completely satisfy his sexual impulses 🎤The character of Nigel is well written by the authors. He's distinguished from a normal guy. In a second, his thoughts shift. We see Nigel as a star climb and lose himself to drugs in this book. This book must be read with emphasis, for in Nigel's life one thing or the other continues to happen 🎤The storytelling is smooth and has done excellent work. The vocabulary is intense and easy to grasp. Characters are detailed and it was a reading eye-opener that would get readers to make their decisions wisely in their lives. I'm delighted to read this book and I liked Needom's writing style.
This was a wild ride in the crazy world of Rock n Roll and one man's ability to destroy himself at every turn. Part of the time I hated him, part of the time I felt for him and all he had gone through in his life. The book was written as the characters journal. The lifestyle he chose and the mistakes he made. His crazy ride kept me wanting more. Looking forward to book 2.
This is one of the strangest stories I have ever read. In a series of diary entries, rockstar, Nigel, gives us a glimpse into his mind. It’s a really weird mind. Nigel is narcissistic, egotistical and cruel to his loved ones. But...what is real? Is the coma? Are the diary entries? I’m not sure. What I am sure of is that he is very, very unlikable. I was also bored with him early on in the book.
Nigel Hartagan is about to lose it all due to his addiction.
Please read the author’s note and content warning. It helped me to be prepared.
This isn’t a sunshine and rainbows story. It’s dirty, gritty, and will get under your skin. I’ve never read a story told in journal style, but it was intriguing.
