"In previous books, Dr. Svoboda has helped us learn to cooperate more harmoniously with Nature through the Indian sciences of Ayurveda and Jyotisa. Now, in Vastu: Breathing Life into Space, he continues to improve our odds of achieving health and happiness by introducing us to the principles and spirit of Vastu Shastra, India's Feng Shui" Dr. Claudia Welch, Doctor of Oriental Medicine.
"Robert Svoboda addresses Vastu, the classical Indian art (or science) of architectural form, in a wholly unique way. Instead of presenting lists of rules and architectural injunctions to which builders and interior designers must scrupulously adhere at all times, he sensitizes the reader to the dynamics of space, alignment, and form in ever-expanding orbits of individual life." During and after my formal Ayurvedic training I was tutored in Ayurveda, Yoga, Jyotisha, Tantra and allied subjects by my mentor, the Aghori Vimalananda. He also owned thoroughbred race horses, and I served as his Authorized Racing Agent at the Royal Western India Turf Club in Bombay and Poona between 1975 and 1985.
The book is very different from other books on similar topics that are very rigid and fanatical in their presentation of the principles of Vastu. Dr. Svoboda gives his readers the basic rules and then allows them the freedom to build their space according to their own needs. He empowers the reader with the techniques to feel the space and then to make changes towards a more harmonious relationship with the space created. He does not push you towards making drastic changes to improve the vastu of a place but provides you with insights with which to make the best of what is available. For the beginners and lay people looking to improve the vastu of their homes/ buildings this is a brilliant way to start.
I took this book in digestible pieces as suggested in the forward. What an incredible tool when looking to start, bring life to, or reframe a space. Not a one time read. I will have this book with me forever.
This is a fascinating book which explores the nature of space and how to create an intentional space using knowledge of pranayama and the 5 elements. The author shares case studies of applying vastu to spaces. It was a really unique take on how people embrace and live within a given space. I found the magical aspects to be helpful in designing my own space.
