Betrayed by her lover and left for dead, Senior Constable Ellie Marsden and her canine patrol dog leave Perth and move to the small coastal town of Trinket Bay. Time heals Ellie's wounds, but not her heart.
When thieves break in and steal drugs from the local doctor's surgery, she realises it's similar to her last case back in the city. If her ex-lover is in her town; can she close the case and arrest the man who almost destroyed her?
Brennan Cole has been on the run for almost three years, leaving behind everything he's ever known and everyone he's ever loved. He's never forgiven himself for betraying Ellie, but he's in too deep to stop now.
Trinket Bay is another perfect target. The police force isn't as prominent here, the drugs they need are easy to acquire, and its tourists provide a ready market. It's a simple in and out before they move on to the next town. But then he glimpses the woman he still loves. Can he escape detection before it's too late?
Or will they learn cases of the heart never grow cold?
A Nose for Trouble is a contemporary romantic suspense novella set in the fictional town of Trinket Bay in South Western Australia.
Danni Line is a Romantic Suspense and Paranormal Romance author whose characters find redemption through romance. She lives in coastal Western Australia with her family and an enthusiastic Border Collie cross named Dante.
Hooked on reading since childhood, she fell in love with writing in her senior year, thanks to a crush on her English teacher.
When she’s not juggling life as a wife, mum, and wannabe baker who wishes she could sing, she’s serving as the Aspiring Authors Ambassador for Romance Writers of Australia (RWAus).
She’s also a member of DSDU (Darkside DownUnder), Romance Writers of New Zealand (RWNZ) and the Australian Romance Readers Association (ARRA).
Having never read romantic suspense before, I wasn’t sure what to expect from this novel, but I was pleasantly surprised. The mystery is intriguing and Ellie and Brennan are both tortured souls who you can’t help wishing find each other again. May have developed a little puppy crush on Ellie’s service dog Charlie, too.
I’ll definitely be buying the next in the series, and I may have to branch out further into more books like this. If anyone has any recommendations, let me know.😊
How could you not love a suspenseful romance, set in a gorgeous little town, with a brooding troubled hero, the Police woman lover he betrayed and a seriously cute hound? Lovely touches of humour and deep sensual passion combine in this mystery romance novella. So glad this is the first in the series, because I want to read more from Trinket Bay.
The opening chapter of ‘A Nose for Trouble’ was a little ripper. I couldn’t believe the heroine, Ellie, was left for dead. I was shocked and had to keep reading to see what happened to the courageous policewoman. When bad guys come to town and run amok with drug crime, the hero—Brennan, Ellie and police dog—Charlie, are embroiled in the fight to stop them. The stakes are high, danger lurks and somehow Ellie and Brennan have heartbreak, betrayal and a tangled romance to resolve. This action, romantic suspense book was a great read. The plot twists were original and entertaining. Congratulations to author, D.D. Line, for her debut book in the Trinket Bay series. When is book two coming?
What an exciting book!Undercover life is a tough one to live with its secrets and danger, Brennan Cole kept his secret for 3 years whilst Ellie and Charlie her k9 police dog are involved in the same case as Brennan. A Great read DD and perfect cover !
This was a fast paced and exciting read that had me hooked from the start. I loved that both Ellie and Brennan had scars, both emotional and physical from their past, and that the love they shared for each other was a guiding force for their actions. Hurt by Brennan's apparent betrayal three years earlier, Ellie has closed herself off, only letting her wonderful service dog Charlie close to her heart. But that all changes when Brennan resurfaces in her town and she is drawn back into the dark world that almost claimed her life once. The only way out will be to trust in a love that she thought had been destroyed. For Brennan, it is time to discover what is worth living or dying for. In the midst of the action and drama is Miss Charlie, a service dog with plenty of sass and show stealing moments. In all, this was a great introduction to the Trinket Bay series and I can't wait for the next book to come out.
I was intrigued by the first few pages when the main character, Ellie Marsden, is shot by her lover, Brennan Cole, and left for dead! Okay, I’m hooked. How on earth does she still love a man who betrayed her and then tried to kill her? Heartbroken, Ellie moves to a small coastal town in Southern Western Australia where she tries to start afresh, but when she experiences déjà vu with the same crime and familiar criminal players, her world is turned upside down - especially when one of them is her no-good betraying ex-lover. Does she lock him away this time, or will she allow her heart to over-ride her head? For first-time novelist DD Line, this book was a quick, suspenseful page-turner that is an enjoyable read. Looking forward to the follow up story in the series – a small tease at the end of this book has me eager to read Finn and Lilah’s tale.
Wow, what a fantastic start to the series. D.D. Line sure knows how to capture the true essence of a small town suspense story. I fell in love with everything about Trinket Bay, not to mention Ellie and Brennan. There was some serious chemistry between these two that had me wanting more.
Trinket Bay is described beautifully by Line and, if I could, I'd book a holiday there myself. Charlie, is the perfect companion to Ellie and the connection they have was so evident as the story went along.
For lovers of romantic suspense this book is a great read and I cannot wait for the next book in the series to be out. I hope it has just as much drama, suspense, danger and of course the romance as A Nose for Trouble.
An exciting beginning to what promises to be an engaging romantic suspense series. Policewoman Ellie Marsden has relocated to Trinket Bay with her K9 companion Miss Charlie. After a heartbreaking betrayal, Ellie has given up on love. She and Charlie share an unbreakable bond and surely that is enough? So why does her heart race when she sees Brennan Cole, the guy who trampled on her hopes and dreams? Ellie suspects its more than a coincidence that he is in Trinket Bay. What is he up to? I loved finding out, and I look forward to reading book two in the Trinket Bay series.
Heartbroken Ellie lives with the pain of her partner's betrayal until the truth of Brennan's actions come to light. But can their love be rekindled? With an opening that hooks you from the first words, I was eager to discover what Brennan was hiding from Ellie! Looking forward to the next book in the series.
A Nose for Trouble is a suspenseful, fun, enjoyable read and Charlie the Belgian shepherd almost steals the show, but the love story between Brennan and Ellie is hard to beat. You'll enjoy a full gamut of emotions as they battle themselves and each other to find the truth. D.D. Line's debut has everything you could want!
The most adorable, smart and loyal character is Charlie a Belgian Shepperd. Tie in a troubled hunk with a secret and a broken-hearted policewoman trying to solve a three-year-old case and you have a thrilling read. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next book by this author.
Wow, what a way to start 2021. I loved ‘A Nose for Trouble’. Some great twists and turns, fabulous mystery, and I could feel the passion the two main characters have for each other while I was reading. My only complaint is that it’s I’ve finished it.
A Nose For Trouble is a great start to a series by a talented new author. The characters were heartfelt and compelling, and I found myself immersed, wanting them to find their way back to each other. From the lovely seaside setting to the grim depths of the drug world, this is a terrific introduction. D. D. Line will be an author to watch in the future.
This well written story is a page turning, can't put down mystery which has you falling for it's troubled main characters, Ellie and Brennan, the scenery of Trinket Bay in south west WA and a most faithful, intelligent Belgian Shepherd, Charlie.
Enduring love, loyalty, heartache and danger and all set in beautiful Trinket Bay - perfect! Enjoyed every single page and looking forward to the next book in the series. Congratulations DD Line.
An Aussie noir, with a cute canine partner to mix things up! Ellie is quite a good character, and I did like her, but couldn't rationalise her relationship with Brennan. It was a good police procedural, and a well thought out story. The romance was not the key focus, which I appreciated.
I bought signed copies of some of Danni's books when I met her at a book signing in Perth. It's taken me a while to get through all the books I bought there. Loved this book about K9 handler Ellie and her dog Charlie, together uncovering a pharmaceutical drug ring that aided in killing a fellow officers daughter. Can't wait to get stuck into the next book in the series.
This romantic suspense novella hooks you in from the very beginning, building the tension between the two main characters. Ellie is a relatable character, who moves to Trinket Bay to make a fresh start, but the man who betrayed her has arrived in town, opening old wounds.
I found it refreshing to read a story set in Western Australia, and one where a canine patrol dog plays an important role (yes, I had a soft spot for Charlie). Some humour is thrown in in the form of Ellie’s friends and co-workers, to help ease the tension, as the romance between Ellie and Brennan gradually unfolds.
This is a good introduction to the Trinket Bay series. I look forward to reading more from this author.
In the first few chapters, I really struggled to know what was going on with the overuse of pronouns, the multitude of characters, and the switching of time periods. By the time I could understand what was happening, I had already disengaged from the story. On a personal note, as a 'dog person', I am often jarred by how dogs are represented in fiction - and this may have contributed to my lack of enjoyment of this novel.
This was my first mystery romance and I'm happy to say I enjoyed it immensely. D.D. Line has done a great job with the pacing of this story and I loved the way the romance was woven through the story from start to finish. I am truly looking forward to her next novella.
