I borrowed Guts & Glory: In the Shadows Security Box Set 1: Books 1-3 from the Kindle Unlimited Program.
This anthology is a three book collection that tells the story of three of the members of In the Shadows Security group. All are ex-military special ops men with special skills that make them successful to fulfill all their missions.
Book 1 is the story of Mercy and Parris when he works to protect her after she witnessed a crime and now is in danger.
Book 2 tells of Ryder and how he does an intervention for Kelsey, the cousin of his boss and the relationship that develops as he starts her on facing her demons and finding a new life.
Book 3 brings together Hunter and Frankie and a baseball bat that she takes to his very special SUV. He finds her feisty behavior attractive as he guards her from the father of her young son, Leo.
All three have happy endings; the team, their boss D and his motorcycle club come together as family and support and protect each other.
Mercy - Keeping people safe is a simple job for Mercy, but when the job becomes personal can he separate his job from his feelings? Will watching out for Parris' safety be too much for him to handle? Or will he simply stay in job mode and push his feeling to the side? Simply put this book deserves more than 5 stars. Jeanne St. James has a knack for creating tough, alpha ex military biker characters but she has never created one with so many layers that she has with Mercy. The scars that he lives his life with are not only on the outside and once he lets Parris in Holy Hell the book became a masterpiece. So many levels of pain and anguish, so many crosses to bear and so many hurdles to cross. You will not be able to put this book down. One of the best books she has ever written.
Ryder - Kelsea uses sex and drugs to hide her secrets and push the reality of life away. Ryder is the man who is sent out to save her from herself and to stop the destruction along the way. But can private, alone time in the secluded wilderness of Kentucky keep Kelsea from more harm? Or will they both be using each other as a crutch to keep their secrets under wraps? Once the secrets are revealed the two will need to decide if they make or break the relationship. Jeanne St. James continues to create a fictional world that her readers cannot help but fall in love with. With the introduction of new characters and new romances I find myself with new favorites each and every time. No two storylines are ever the same but yet each one is a masterpiece in its own right. I cannot wait for the next book.
Hunter - While working a job to help one of his "brothers" find a man who just may be a relative, Hunter finds so much more. Frankie has made it her mission not to be pulled back into the life of the biker she does not want to have ties to as she has so much more to have taken away. The abusive past makes Hunter change directions. He is no longer looking for the man, he is now trying to save Frankie from him. But when chaos ensues, will it be the job or the woman that Hunter puts first. I love the dynamics of the characters in this book. Love finds you - even when you are not looking for it.
Loved this story of how she worked her way into this wounded soldier. Even once they got together he knew he would stuff it up but begged her not to give up on him. Great read. Narration was awesome.
Ryder
This series is amazing. A Broken soldier and a broken woman, a soldier who had gotten his shit together and a woman who was losing it. He found her and helped her find her way. Narration was awesome.
Hunter
A great read. What started as a hunt for a man, turned into finding love. He thought he couldn’t escape an incident in his past that he thought robbed him of his future. But with her love and her sons love, he soon saw no future within them in it. Narration was awesome.
I started with the Dirty Angels MC books and loved them so much I went back to the beginning of her collection. The Bryson’s start showing up again. Mercy was good, Ryder was so hard to read due to its content. If you have triggers, this book has them-non consensual and worse. Loved Hunter and Frankie. I can’t wait to read the rest of this series. I am so glad I found this author.
While I was reading the Devils Angels books, I wondered about the Shadows. I’m glad their stories are being told. The author does a good job of balancing the various elements of the stories, while treating the challenges faced by these veterans tastefully, without glossing over the difficult parts.
I truly enjoyed reading this box set it was intriguing, full of action, sexy, and well worth the wait! I would definitely recommend this set to read! 👏🏾👏🏾🤗🤗
Enjoyable set of reads but my least favourite was Kelsey and Ryder. Not fond of Kelsey and her behaviour . Happy to hear more of Diesel and his grumpiness.
Enjoyed reading the stories of the 'Shadows' that were involved in the Dirty Angels series. The stories were steamy, full of action and moved at a nice pace.
This series of books, follows on from the Dirty Angels books. We met Diesel and Jewel previously, and know they both work for Diesel’s company Shadow Security. Here we met three of the six special operations guys, find out their back storylines and follow them into their happy endings. We also catch glimpses of the Dirty Angels and seems they are all doing well, living safely in their own gated community and life seems great. Off to finish the last three books in this series, hopefully it will be as good as the first three. Highly recommend this series.
